Worse thing about being pregnant?

SamSamA · 17/04/2020 23:54

17 weeks pregnant and currently my worse thing is feeling like I can't breathe properly. This is my second baby and with the first I thought something was wrong with me. The 'not being able to breathe properly' thing was just happening to me. Now I realise that no, this is not a me thing but a pregnancy thing and I hate it. But 5 months to go so deep breaths, literally.
Anyone else got a 'worse thing?'

Can't say I ever experienced not being able to breathe properly. Worst thing for me was the heartburn - it was savage

Purpleartichoke · 18/04/2020 00:02

Vomiting at least once a day for 9 months.

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 18/04/2020 00:03

Only time I struggled with breathing s when ds found my lungs, he'd literally push at them, or that's what it felt like.
It was brain fog that got me, I completely lost my concentration, was very difficult when you're job involves diary booking and travel organisation.

I'm a FTM and had the struggling to breathe / getting out of breath easily thing since about 10 weeks (I'm now 23 weeks). Some days I feel like a 75 year old just trying to walk upstairs!
I am just starting to experience regular heartburn as mentioned by a PP....and the water retention / cankles / leg cramps has been another unwelcome surprise, as has the recurring UTI.
It's hard to say which has been the worst side effect so far Hmm

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/04/2020 00:17

So far for me it’s just the anxiety of not knowing if it’s actually safe in there and will really be come out. Psychical symptoms are definitely secondary to the worry

june2007 · 18/04/2020 00:37

Worse thing is the not knowing. Your told what to expect but that isn,t necessarily how it is. eg not every one gets morning sickness, not everyone is in labour for 12 hours. so youy confused what is normal. Should I be feeling this. Even if you had one and then have another it may not be the same, and you find that doctors and health people aren,t always informative either.

Piles

ChanklyBore · 18/04/2020 00:51

I couldn’t breathe either, both physically and for the fear that I would lose my baby imminently. Time slowed to a crawl each time, made worse by not being able to sleep due to physical discomfort and anxiety, so it was literally twice as long. I had no way of connecting pregnancy with a baby so there was no silver lining. I’d stay awake until 4-4.30am every night and if I did fall asleep I’d wake up in discomfort within minutes, and the cycle would start again. Everything inside me was squashed. I had PGP which lasted years after my pregnancies. I couldn’t access any of my usual coping mechanisms (exercise, solitude, alcohol, support from friends, sleep!) It was a horrible time, every time. The utter relief when it was over - I launched myself onto my bed on my belly just an hour or two after birth and slept like a baby. I hope you can feel relief too OP.

Being sick 3+ times a day 😫

maryd84 · 18/04/2020 01:17

Really sore boobs and bras no longer fitting.

Shmabel · 18/04/2020 01:31

My breathing is terrible too! I really wasn't expecting it. I have actually been wondering lately if it's the worse thing, but I think I'm just because I'm forgetting the dreadful morning sickness I had. Still, it can make me feel panick-stricken and claustrophobic at times. I find it's worse if my stomach is full. I'm 26 weeks tomorrow

grisen · 18/04/2020 03:18

The idea of being pregnant is what got me. Absolutely hated the thought that anytime I could “pop” and people could tell I was pregnant, or others being told I was. Luckily I managed to get to 8.5 months of working without a lot people finding out.

peasoup8 · 18/04/2020 04:28

This is by far the worst thing for me too.

Coastercat · 18/04/2020 04:32

Itchiness!!!
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Breathlessness
Paranoia

Pyrotechnics · 18/04/2020 05:06

Acid reflux/heartburn
It’s awful! Have been given peptac by my GP but it doesn’t touch it.

FirstTimeBumps · 18/04/2020 06:55

I'd agree with the not knowing if everything is okay although I feel that eases somewhat once you can feel baby move. But the lead up to the twelve week scan is awful. Experienced shortness of breath is both pregnancies, which further aggregated my anxiety. Had a full on panic attack last time which I've never experienced before. This time I cried when I realised it was happening again because it just takes so much energy from you.

I'd like to add though, loss of appetite. This has happened both times. No cravings and I wish I was one of those who can't stop eating for two. Some evenings it feels like an absolute battle knowing I HAVE to each but my appetite is absolutely gone.

Colouringinbook · 18/04/2020 06:57

Vommitting - especially at the moment as I've given myself a sore throat and cough from all the heaving!
Heightened sense of smell
Exhaustion
Constipation
Piles
That stage where you look fat instead of pregnant
Sore hips from lying on your left
Insomnia
Struggling to put your socks on
Itchy skin
Being too hot
When strangers either touch your bump or stare at it in a creepy way
Giving birth.

FlyingLemur · 18/04/2020 06:59

A 3 way toss up between
Heartburn
Not knowing whether everything is ok in there/worrying about it all going wrong
And the restrictiveness of it all-pregnancy is all about what you can’t/shouldn’t do (and people judging you)

Jessie9323 · 18/04/2020 07:17

Heartburn oh god the heartburn! From sun up till sun down. Then through the night too haha. I'm pregnant with my second and it's the same this time
35+ weeks now and I'm getting through a little bottle of gaviscon every couple of days whilst struggling to find the big ones to buy!

maa1992 · 18/04/2020 07:19

I loved it, I was really lucky to have an easy going pregnancy until about 6 month then my baby was giant and standing from sitting was so painful and sleep became an issue.

Other than that, I hated with a passion my stretch marks and heartburn was pretty horrific at the end.

But all totally worth it and best thing I ever did

Magpiefeather · 18/04/2020 07:23

Oh loads of physical things!

Sickness
Heartburn
Shortness of breath
Swollen ankles
Constipation
Piles

IF I had to choose one of those I could have done without t would be the constipation, it was bloody horrific.

But really I think the worst thing is that you can’t have a break from being pregnant, even for a minute. You can’t even put the weight of the baby down for a minute like you can when they’re born.

Mucklowe · 18/04/2020 07:29

The burping is a low point for me! I was never one to burp before. Now I sound like a gang of toads in a pond.

BelfastNonBlonde · 18/04/2020 08:19

Mine has been pretty much a breeze to be honest - I know I’m massively lucky.
I have however been struck with PGP (pelvic pain) which can be pretty bad if aggravated.

Unfortunately it’s taken it’s toll on my daily lockdown walks in the park which now leave me crippled.

BelfastNonBlonde · 18/04/2020 08:21

Also (and of course I want my baby to hurry up and come..) but the slight dread that at the end of pregnancy my life will be forever changed by this thing I have to look after all the time... 😬

Lyris · 18/04/2020 09:29

So far... having to get through lockdown sober 😂
