Sleepyhead’s...good or bad?

My MIL is really on my case that I need to buy a sleepyhead for my baby as her daughter has terrible trouble with her baby and claimed this was a lifesaver!
My sister in law is a very stressed out person to the point where the whole world evolves around her and she claims motherhood is the most stressful thing in the world and regularly has her mum take care of the child whilst she goes off and loves her life!

My MIL is speaking to me that I need this and I need that as her daughter couldn’t love without it and I must have it! I’ve got to the point where I’ve snapped and said “just because your daughter had a tough time, doesn’t mean I will and all babies are different” she kept on about the sleepyhead but went quiet after I told her several times that I can’t justify spending all this money on something just because my niece didn’t & doesn’t sleep!

Anyways she’s started up again after seeing a photo on Facebook of a friends baby looking comfortable in one....I’ve been told they are not ideal for overnight sleeping and midwives don’t recommend them...
Seriously at the point of kicking off and feel like my baby is already being compared

Ugh..rant over

They are a SIDs risk, they are stupidly expensive and you don’t even particularly sound like you want one - don’t get one just to appease MIL.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/04/2020 18:21

Bit of a generalisation not really- people want they babies to sleep independently and cry less.

OhClover · 12/04/2020 19:22

not really- people want they babies to sleep independently and cry less

Or they want their baby to sleep somewhere safer than in their arms all night every night.

I used a slightly cheaper but also excellent version called a Purflo Nest

It was brilliant for us, highly recommend

They’re dangerous and I’d never use one for overnight sleeping.
People never used them anyway until they hit hype level about 5 years ago, never known a baby sleep in one until now.
Would never consider it.

I'm orerrt sure professionals advice against them as they arent generally safe for night time sleeping. They are illegal in some countries even, I think in Canada for sure. Not all babies like them anyway and such a expense I would just wait till your baby is here then buy luxury things..personally I wont be buying one when mine arrives. I think I would rather swaddle so they are all snug Smile

We used one for day naps so he could lie next to me on sofa but didn't use overnight. I think they are good but if you can't afford it it's no big loss

lightningmcqueen20 · 12/04/2020 21:12

I used the smaller one and then the toddler one and found them amazing, however I just used them for daytime naps and not unaccompanied sleep as I'm a bit OCD.

Bought both on ebay second hand.

Ps to everyone saying swaddle at my hospital pre natal classes they said they no longer advice swaddling as baby can overheat and unable to move arms to regulate temp.

There is a lot of advice out there... You have to.decide what's important to you.

I loved my sleepy head . Definitely worth the money 100%! My baby slept in his snuzpod at night but during the day I put him in his sleepy head for naps. It’s not dangerous with supervision and I’ve never heard of a single cot death with a sleepy head anyway .

It’s portable and so easy to move around the house .

Baby outgrew it by 6 months though but still worth the money in my opinion .

I’m sure everyone will have their own thoughts . There were plenty of products that didn’t work out for us and were highly recommended . Your mother in law reminds me of a few people I know lol . Why doesn’t she just buy you one if she swears by it 😝🤷‍♀️!

My husband and I bought things we needed as we needed them . You could see how the first couple weeks and if you think you need a sleepyhead then buy one !!!!!!! Every baby is so different anyway and you just don’t know !!!

georgialondon · 13/04/2020 23:30
