Do we qualify as 'vulnerable' for special supermarket shopping times?

Not sure where it should have gone, Covid sub forum? But maybe someone here knows. There are no slots for either delivery nor click and collect for any of the supermarkets/amazon/anything else that delivers for the next month. I am 33 weeks, with a 3 year old toddler. We're not going out at all unless to the garden or park when it's absolutely empty. I know some supermarkets have slots for the elderly, NHS and 'vulnerable' and I wondered if we make the cut? Obviously if not will try to sort out shopping another time, which is rush hour any hour now, but thought I'd check if there is something out there that could make it easier especially as I have to take my toddler with me.

Can the father not go shopping at a normal time?

playthestation · 22/03/2020 16:06

Where is the children's father in all of this?

playthestation · 22/03/2020 16:07

Also I don't know if you have seen any pictures but these times have somehow turned into the busiest times. If you don't have anyone else then you should maybe try early evening

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 22/03/2020 16:10

The question was- are we a part of the group or not, I didn't really ask for advice on my family situation ladies. Unfortunately the father cannot go shopping at a normal or any other time.

I think pregnancy would qualify you as vulnerable but I would try to avoid going to busy supermarkets at all if you can.

Babyg1995 · 22/03/2020 16:13

Yes we are included in it .

Whoareyoudududu · 22/03/2020 16:15

Yes, we are included in it but I would recommend your DH going if that’s possible.

PinkyU · 22/03/2020 16:15

If you’re going to the park, irrespective of how busy it is, then you’re risking infection and then hoping to use the time for vulnerable shoppers, I think that would be very irresponsible, you’d be risking those that are genuinely and properly self isolating.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 22/03/2020 16:17

@PinkyU The advice I read this morning is that going for a walk/jog is fine, and actually recommended, as long as you obviously dont hang around a bunch of people and observe safe distances, so please don't spread false intel.

If your child is using the play equipment at the park then you do risk contracting it or passing it on, it lives on some surfaces for hours.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 22/03/2020 16:20

@Darkstar4855 That would be ideal, but supermarkets are never non busy here, not now at least. High street looks like any other day (or worse). It's like if people don't watch the news at all. 30 minutes after shops opening most of the items are gone, so if I want to be able to eat and feed my child there are no other options since deliveries are nonexistant anymore.

From what I have heard today, the supermarkets are very busy at the times set aside for the vulnerable and care workers. If you are at home all day and can go at any time you like, I would try and find another time to go.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 22/03/2020 16:21

@n00bMaster69 I said we're going to the park, not that my daughter plays around on any equipment... You can also just walk around the park...

Oh, when someone says they're taking their toddler to the park I assume it's a playpark.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 16:24

It's your family situation that helps to decide what's the best option Hmm

Nobody we judging you. Without the full facts it's hard to advise. That's all.

AllTheFours44 · 22/03/2020 16:25

No, pregnancy is not considered vulnerable. And what logic is there to bringing a child into a supermarket alongside the actual vulnerable?

PinkyU · 22/03/2020 16:25

No unnecessary outings @MonaLisaDoesntSmile that includes trips to the park.

BilboBercow · 22/03/2020 16:25

OP your responses are very arsey. I know everyone is stressed right now but there's no need when you're posting asking for advice

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 22/03/2020 16:27

No - assuming this isn't the immaculate conception or a donor sperm baby then the father needs to make arrangements

It's for the very elderly - those for whom no one else can shop for them etc

Murraygoldberg · 22/03/2020 16:30

I've just come back from the supermarket and it was the quietest I've ever seen it, not too badly stocked maybe things are calming down!

MrsRose2018 · 22/03/2020 16:33

Hi OP,

Short answer, no!

xx

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 22/03/2020 16:33

@Murraygoldberg
I think people are acting on herd instinct thinking they have to be there first in the morning when in reality most of the big supermarkets get deliveries throughout the day so it's better to wait a few hours

Small towns/small supermarkets like coop though look like a scene from the walking dead

Likethebattle · 22/03/2020 16:33

Why can’t your children’s father go to the shops to provide for his family?

NishaaS123 · 22/03/2020 16:35

Oh god why are people bieng mean she just asked weather we are part of the vulnerable group or not all we have to do is answer that and let her deal with her stuff the way she has too

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 22/03/2020 16:38

@BilboBercow Sorry if they are arsy but that's because believe me, whatever people could advise, we already thought of before. It would be nice for others to answer the question (or ignore the thread if they dont feel like responding) if they know the answer without making assumptions or giving suggestions that I, knowing my own situation, know won't work.

@PinkyU From the government wesbite: "You can also go for a walk or exercise outdoors if you stay more than 2 metres from others."

@Murraygoldberg Unfortunately not the case here, it only gets quiet when shelves are strippe dof anything at all, so going would be pointless at such times anyways :/
