So just saw Boris Johnson's conference said pregnant women are also added to the vulnerable group and should self isolate!? But what about working pregnant ladies what should they do!? I work for the MOJ which is a goverment department would they be more lenient towards me? What should I do? So confused still have 13 weeks to start maternity leave

I'm just 7 weeks and new to my call centre office job and currently training so doubt i can work from home, I wasn't planning to tell my job until 15 weeks at least, I travel on public transport, I have no idea what to do?! Can't afford to be on stat sick pay either, anyone help?!

LJ20 · 16/03/2020 21:35

Hi how long have you been at your job? Doubt they'd pay me full

Mellowyellow254 · 16/03/2020 21:40

I've been there years but they're paying everyone full pay who needs to self isolate so its defo worth speaking to your employer to see where you stand!

Bookworm83 · 16/03/2020 21:47

My work announced today they want everyone to take 2 weeks unpaid leave, starting tomorrow ☹️
This will then be reviewed on a weekly basis and extended as necessary.

We are in the tourism business so getting hit really hard.

I'm in the lucky position that I was due to start my maternity leave in 3 days anyway so it doesn't make a huge difference to me, but I do worry whether I'll still have s company to go back to next year.

heartburnhelp · 16/03/2020 22:01

@Bookworm83 I'm also worried about the impact this will have on labour wards and birth partners etc. I'll be really interested to see how you get on in a couple of weeks.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and fortunately can work from home for the next month until I go on maternity leave. I know how lucky I am with that.

I'm so scared about what this means for the labour though. I'm terrified of either being separated from the baby, or not having my partner there for the birth. If it comes to that I'm worried that I won't even go to the hospital and will have an unplanned home birth.

roarfeckingroar · 16/03/2020 22:05

@Bookworm83 I'm also affected by this, my doula emailed today to tell me she may not be allowed in the delivery room. Really unhappy if this is the case.

DaisyBear21 · 16/03/2020 22:13

I'm a week overdue and have been popping into the hospital for check ups over the past few days. They are now only allowing one birthing partner and visitor (has to be the same person) and unfortunately there are staffing issues as some are now off sick for isolation or to look after their children. Feeling very anxious about this whole thing :(

Wombleofwimbledon1984 · 16/03/2020 22:23

Our bub has Di George syndrome so will be Immunocompromised, potentially quite severely. And I’m due in 11 weeks and someone in my small basement office has just tested positive. All a bit scary, especially given the news of that new mum who passed it onto her baby. Wish they had better guidance for all this - I spoke to 111 and they just wanted me off the phone!

jdy123 · 16/03/2020 22:28

I've got my 20 week scan Wednesday , I'm guessing we'll still be okay to continue to attend our appointments ?

heartburnhelp · 16/03/2020 22:32

Good luck @DaisyBear21 I bet you just want the baby to come and for it to be over with now

Sunnydays60 · 16/03/2020 22:34

Would be interested to hear from other at risk people who work in schools... If you've told the school you're not going in to work from now on, how was it received and will you get any pay or does it have to be unpaid leave? Boris did say it'll likely be actioned from this weekend so I'm assuming if you're doing it now you're basically saying it's effectively your own choice and not following official government advice (yet)?

Faie · 16/03/2020 22:54

I discovered I was pregnant less than a week ago, I'm approximately 4/5 weeks, didnt want to tell work before 3 months though! Am currently self isolating anyway but worried about what to do when the 14 days are up!

Troubledmummy3 · 16/03/2020 23:03

I'm only 11w 4 days pregnant and I have 3 children in school...kept 2 in primary off today under the previous 7 day guideline as youngest has developed a cold and slight cough...as have I...now it's going to be 14 days...then who knows? I work for the family business and our accounts are due for the end of the financial year at the end of March and I can't get in to do them and to add insult to injury our main computer went down today so they are working blind! I work with my husband and other family in the financial advisory industry and I know they are under a lot of pressure and I'm not there and I'm full time!
I've got my 12 week scan (late) in 11 days...not sure it'll be on...but I'm also high risk so consultant led. These are the scary times and I can honestly say this feels like a really terrible time to be pregnant 😟 I'm worried for my little one as it's still so vulnerable! Stay safe everyone at least we know we aren't alone x

Charlottethevet · 16/03/2020 23:08

@mrs87

I also work in a vet s (as a veterinary surgeon). I have no idea how we are supposed to move forwards with this... I'm 6.5 weeks pregnant and I don't feel that the information we have been given, this far, by the PM etc has been clear enough.

At the moment, Im wondering whether we should consider not consulting, but only do admin/ prescriptions/ operations instead- so we aren't public facing?

mimiblack · 16/03/2020 23:19

I'm a supply teacher so only get paid for the days I work. I'm torn between staying at home and claiming whatever benefits I can get or just carrying on as normal until they shut down schools (which is looking VERY likely).

I think they're playing it safe because no one knows how this virus will affect our bodies and the babies. They only have evidence of how it HASN'T affected women late into their third trimester.

Personally I think unless the government become very clear on how they expect most pregnant woman who are on a 0 hour contract to survive for 12 weeks without being paid, we are forced to take the risk.

Avoiding all other social interaction though for sure.

FeelingBeautiful · 16/03/2020 23:26

Is this supposed to help?

Pregnant women included in high at risk for coronavirus uk what to do now!?
Avearage · 17/03/2020 00:08

I work in care and quite expect them to just dismiss it as long as they can to be honest...... Its a company that really doesn't take kindly to pregnancy, let alone me saying I'm not coming in for 12 weeks so stuck with what to do I'm going to await there response to yesterday's news and hope they contact me...... Will be interested in the coming days to hear what everyone's else's employers are doing xx

soph91 · 17/03/2020 07:34

I'm coming up to 33 weeks and panicking. Having read up at the moment they only have a very, very small study on woman who have caught it in their 3rd trimester - which so far seem to be okay and if the babies have it they seem to be recovering. I think they are just been overly cautious - they have basically said they are advising all those that get the the flu jab to go into lockdown .

I work from home full time and my work stopped my from going to any external meetings when this all started and my partner told work yesterday morning he will be working from home until after the babies born / or this all calms down a bit. We are only leaving the house for consultant appts, I am there on Thursday so will ask the consultant his opinion and update the thread x

Bittersweet12 · 17/03/2020 07:53

It's so hard and difficult I work in retail so there's absolutely no way I can work from home what so ever! I'm 27 weeks due to start 4 weeks holiday before my mat leave on the 23rd April, so that's still a month of work left, no idea what I'm meant to do😩

Hhdxx · 17/03/2020 08:09

I'm a teacher and just over 7 weeks pregnant and I'm a teacher in a primary school. I am not going into school today because of advice. What is the advice? It's really unclear isn't it?
Do I need to go back into work? What is everyone going to think?

soph91 · 17/03/2020 08:12

@Bittersweet12 would they allow you to wear gloves ? Or could they put you in the back doing stock taking or whatever ? My brother works for Apple and they have shut all stores and I have read Primark are doing the same so you might shut at some point !

Bittersweet12 · 17/03/2020 08:21

@soph91 I work in a pet shop so that's even hard to, what a mess everything seems to be! X

ClassicallyConditioned · 17/03/2020 08:30

I'm a teacher, 11+5 weeks pregnant. I emailed the head this morning to say I would be coming in today to make preparations to work from home from tomorrow. Haven't had a reply yet...

november90 · 17/03/2020 09:20

I'm not due in work today but my manager has emailed me saying they are going to have a meeting about it all and will contact me. I might use annual leave and start my mat leave earlier as having a 3 year old and working from home sounds like a disaster!! (Considering that nurseries will probably close soon!).

Sunnydays60 · 17/03/2020 09:21

@Hhdxx
The current advice is just to practise social distancing which means working from home 'where possible' - as teachers I don't expect that's much of an option? I'd be interested to know how your school reacts to your absence (especially because boris hasn't said to start til the weekend)... everyone seems to have different stories. I'm ironically off at the moment because of parvovirus... not sure how well an extended break is going to go down!
