Mr Whitty says that the social distancing measures are particularly aimed at people above 70, adults with chronic illness such as heart disease, and pregnant women.

So does that mean we like over 70 will be asked to isolate??

My employers would no way allow it, I'm 20 weeks today

Poppy19654 · 16/03/2020 18:04

The pregnancy advice feels very confused!

BabyOne90 · 16/03/2020 18:05

I think there saying for us to isolate????

Avearage · 16/03/2020 18:06

Just listened to the live feed from Boris and that's what it seemed to imply? But my work wouldn't be willing I'm sure to comply.... So hard to understand it all!!

If we have to self isolate then I would unfortunately do so. my worry is do I get paid? I've been off sick for 5weeks and going back this week as cant afford it any longer so 12 weeks would be unfeasible

Layladylay234 · 16/03/2020 18:13

I'm very confused. The guidance was for us to take "special care" with social distancing measures. What that means is not clear. For example, if the kids are the ones older people are meant to be avoiding, is that the same for us? I've got 2 ten year olds, are they not more of a risk to us?

Cheesewine · 16/03/2020 18:14

Following as in same boat.

ChipsAreLife · 16/03/2020 18:17

I watched it and Boris and Chris Whitty made it clear the evidence is too much in its infancy on pregnant women and thus as a precaution are now part of the high risk group. So yes we are being asked to stay put for 12 weeks. I would expect this doesn't include scans, MW apps etc

ChipsAreLife · 16/03/2020 18:19

Although the 12 weeks hasn't been officially put in they said it would be in the next few days.

Avearage · 16/03/2020 18:19

Confused I actually don't mind..... I'm not sure I could get any more antisocial if I tried Grin my concern is work..... What happens there??

Also confused and following!

I'm run a business from home supplying cafes, pubs and restaurants. With people being told to avoid them that's my income gone anyway. I don't even know if I'll qualify for maternity allowance from the government if my earnings drop drastically.

My children still have to go to school and nursery and come home to me. What about hospital appointments?

ClassicallyConditioned · 16/03/2020 18:24

@ChipsAreLife What are the "very special circumstances" referred to in that article?

ChipsAreLife · 16/03/2020 18:29

They didn't say but I would assume it's for your medical apps. You will still need to receive prenatal care. I know when they were talking about the isolation for vulnerable they said important medical apps still needed to be attended.

MrsRose2018 · 16/03/2020 18:38

22 weeks pregnant and In the same boat! Literally wondering whether we need to self isolate! And what about midwife app? I have mine next week!

My work would allow us all to work from home luckily....

Tink2007 · 16/03/2020 18:40

I work in school, am 17 weeks and have no idea either.

MsMiaWallace · 16/03/2020 18:44

Same boat here. Dunno what to do about work?

MrsRose2018 · 16/03/2020 18:45

Messaged my MW! Will report back x

Advice.....
sarahc336 · 16/03/2020 18:46

Sounds like they're being very cautious with us and asking us to overall have less social contact. Boris also said that most people if possible to work from home so I guess he's suggesting pregnant women shouldn't be on work as it poses a risk. Guess we all speak to our bosses and see what they all suggest tomorrow Confused x

ChipsAreLife · 16/03/2020 18:47

Once they say all at risk groups are to stay at home for 12 weeks which will be in days then you've got to stay home. I would assume this exclude your midwife apps etc but that will be made clear. Unless you can work from home then yes you won't be able to work

Avearage · 16/03/2020 18:48

My boss I'm sure will just ignor it until its set in stone!!

My worry is pay! No way I can afford to live on SSP and then SMP for the next year...

notinthestarsigns · 16/03/2020 18:52

I am only 7 and a half weeks so haven’t told work yet but now thinking I’ll have to tell them tomorrow given the new guidance, is anyone else in this position?

Raindancer411 · 16/03/2020 18:53

I am keeping my son off school tmw morning and asking the Head to call me. I am 31 weeks pregnant and under investigation for heart palpations and baby being small, so to me, my son is a risk.

Hubby is already working from home so he isn't a risk.

Son still has three weeks before Easter hols so hoping I can get her to allow home Ed and no fine me or lose his school place. It's so confusing!

As for social distancing, I think we are to keep antenatal appointments but not to go if we have symptoms
