Desperate to feel baby move

I will be 17 weeks on wednesday and the 20 week scan seems ages away as its not till 9th april (21 weeks thanks to the NHS been rubbish)
I still haven't felt baby move and I'm finding it really stressful. I just want to know baby is okay and I'm struggling to relax

I haven't felt anything yet and am 16+2 but just been to midwife appointment and heart a strong heart beat, don't panic I'm sure everything is ok but I know that's easier said than done I was a nervous wreck before my first few scans and hearing that today. 17 weeks is still super super early to feel movements ❤️

KittyKat2020 · 09/03/2020 10:46

@BabyB19 I had my midwife appointment last thursday and heard baby too with a very strong heartbeat. You just hear everyone having perfect pregnancies and saying how much they feel so early on and it gets to you. My bump is still small, I know it is my first but it's all just stressing me out

I think I was 18 weeks when I first felt it. It felt like a washing machine doing a single spin the first time. Then like a fish flopping around 😂 it will happen soon I'm sure 🙂

Thesearmsofmine · 09/03/2020 10:50

Book a private scan?

Instead of saying the NHS is rubbish why not think how lucky you are that you are provided with regular appointments plus scans within a set timeframe that you aren’t being charged for.

LividLaughLovely · 09/03/2020 10:52

I wasn’t sure at all about movements until after 20 weeks. Just possible bubbles around 18 onwards that could easily have been my guts.

As PP said, book a private scan if you’re really anxious.

LH1987 · 09/03/2020 10:52

Hi, I didn’t feel anything until after 21 weeks and all is going fine with my pregnancy (currently 25+5). Just wanted to let you know as I remember being super anxious when hearing others saying they were feeling the baby at 15 weeks and I thought something was wrong. Try to be patient (easier said then done!).

Delbelleber · 09/03/2020 10:52

I was 19w when I felt my 1st and 2nd and 22w with my current pregnancy

KittyKat2020 · 09/03/2020 11:15

@Thesearmsofmine I don't think there is any need for the rudeness of your post. Whilst I appreciate the NHS you have no idea of why I think they are rubbish on some points do you? I hope you're family never have to deal with been failed multiple times by a hospital.

As to everyone else, thank you for your reassurance. I have had multiple private scans but the cost is just getting a little too much for us now with moving house too.

I'm 20 weeks and feeling the baby move, but it's more like if my uterus could fart than a future footballer. It's possible you'll feel it soon but think that it's something else Grin

Bezalelle · 09/03/2020 11:35

I agree with Thesearms actually. No need to slag off the NHS. We're incredibly lucky to have it.

KittyKat2020 · 09/03/2020 11:43

@Bezalelle As I said I am aware were very lucky to have it but that does not mean I cannot point out their failings. People are very lucky if every time they have had good service and felt supported.
I have had some really good moments from the NHS but unfortunately there have been times they have let themselves down.

The NHS is hugely strained Im afraid. I've had horrendous experiences myself but I'm still grateful.

In terms of movements with my first it wasn't until 22 weeks I felt it. it's frustrating but unless you have any other indication everything will be growing and going fine. I didn't have much of a bump at your stage either. Try not to worry. Are you keeping busy and your mind occupied? I find when I have time to think time really drags!!!!

KittyKat2020 · 09/03/2020 11:51

@ChipsAreLife I totally agree! I definitely am worse when I'm sitting thinking. I keep trying to find things to fill my time but it creeps in and definitely makes time drag!

I didn’t have a bump with either DC until about 23/24 weeks, movement came around 22 weeks.

I personally for both pregnancies can’t fault the nhs in the slightest, given how over stretched they are my care during pregnancy was second to none.

I was v high in my 2nd pregnancy with scans every 2 weeks from 16 weeks, and the consultants were fantastic.

It’s a worrying time OP when pregnant but the best thing you can do is just get on with it, potentially look at booking a private scan - sometimes groupon does vouchers very cheaply for these.

Unfortunately pregnancy and subsequently having children are a wealth of worry, but honestly you need to just keep going as worrying will make you poorly.

sel2223 · 09/03/2020 12:12

I'm 17+4 with first baby and no moments yet....I had a private scan last week and baby is quite happy moving around in there, I just can't feel it yet.

The 20 week scan seems ages away as its not till 9th april (21 weeks thanks to the NHS been rubbish)

Hmm The NHS isn't "rubbish", it's just incredibly over stretched

I just want to know baby is okay and I'm struggling to relax

Pay for a private scan if it's causing you such an issue. There are plenty of companies who provide them and they're generally very reasonably priced these days

tigerstripes8 · 09/03/2020 12:43

Wouldn't say the NHS is rubbish 🙄

Is this your first pregnancy? I didn't feel my baby move to about 19/20 weeks , I would book a private scan if you can't wait to 21 weeks.

denbyellie · 09/03/2020 13:01

When are you due?! I'm 17 weeks on Tuesday ❤️❤️❤️

bobbypinseverywhere · 09/03/2020 13:22

Im 17+3 and have an anterior placenta so likely won't feel anything for another 6 weeks or so.

I have to agree with PP, having your scan at 21 weeks is perfectly normal and not a sign of bad care. If you're this worried and have already required multiple private scans, i think working on your anxiety may be worthwhile, as i think you do sound abnormally worked up. good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

KittyKat2020 · 09/03/2020 13:32

@denbyellie I am 17 weeks on wednesday so very close in date to yourself!

@bobbypinseverywhere Thanks for your comments. I have alot of anxiety surrounding pregnancy as I have bad endometriosis so it has taken a long time to conceive, Its also my first pregnancy and there is a history of miscarriage in my family. I think given all that it is pretty understandable plus I have always been an overthinker and worrier so I doubt it will change lol

I also didn't feel baby until about 22 weeks so try not to worry yet. I'd also had losses at 7 and 14 weeks previously. So I did have about 20 scans haha 🙈

denbyellie · 09/03/2020 19:42

@bobbypinseverywhere how did you find out the positioning of your phone placenta ? X

bobbypinseverywhere · 09/03/2020 20:58

@denbyellie from my 12 week scan - to be honest it was only because I'm medical and saw it on the screen that I raised it with the Sonographer, she didn't say anything about it initially. However it can make a big difference to how early you feel movements.

EssElsiee · 09/03/2020 21:30

Do you know where your placenta is positioned? I found out at 16 weeks mine is anterior. I was reading I wouldn’t feel anything until potentially 24 weeks.. I’m 20 weeks tomorrow and I’m pretty sure yesterday I felt a few movements!! which I wasn’t expecting so hopefully next few days I feel more and more. It is possible my placenta has moved or he’s just got bigger so I can feel him. My 20 week scan is also when I’m 21 weeks! X
