you can't ally go off sick for fear of getting Cornavirus. And even if you were to use annual leave you would likely run out long before it reaches a peak which is expected to be in October from what I have read

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2020 17:58

You aren’t sick.

You just need to take the same precautions at everyone else.

Nelbert19 · 04/03/2020 18:01

Imagine if all the medical staff took time off sick

FeelingBeautiful · 04/03/2020 18:03

@squee123 you're right, but it would be annual leave until the end of March and then I'm actually off for three weeks anyway...I also read that the spring/summer weather might dampen it's ability to spread...but there's so much conflicting info

@PurpleDaisies, thank you, I know I'm not sick : ) I was wondering what other pregnant ladies are doing to take care of themselves, and if taking time away from crowded work places is one of them

Nelbert19 · 04/03/2020 18:03

Sorry, that was unnecessarily snarky. It’s been a long day!

FeelingBeautiful · 04/03/2020 18:05

@Nelbert19 - not all staff, just the pregnant ones who might be in danger? I don't know, I'm just wondering what people think...

OP posts:
FeelingBeautiful · 04/03/2020 18:06

@Nelbert19 Don't worry - it's a slightly ridiculous question that perhaps only first time anxious pregnant ladies might ask!

There’s no different advice for pregnant women. It’s the same as for everyone else.

Have you had issues with health anxiety before?

Echobelly · 04/03/2020 18:07

There's no evidence it's extra dangerous to pregnant mums/pregnancies, AFAIK.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 04/03/2020 18:09

I'm 37 and at university, and 20 weeks pregnant. I'm not going to uni, working from home instead.
I have a 20 year old at uni, his uni is closing in two weeks until further notice.

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2020 18:09

Which uni is that littleboy?

FeelingBeautiful · 04/03/2020 18:10

@PurpleDaisies @Echobelly there's no advice because they don't know much about it (according to my doc today), that's why it's worrying. Haven't had health anxiety but a few niggles about this pregnancy after hearing a few horror stories. Thanks for reply tho, it's good to see most people are not taking ott measures

@PurpleDaisies Birmingham City University

PrinnyPree · 04/03/2020 18:18

I'm 37 years old 28+4 days pregnant, I'm just cracking on and going to work and carrying on as normal, please try not to panic. Just take normal precautions ie wash hands frequently etc, and avoid physical contact with anyone with cold like symptoms. There is not that many cases in the UK, less than 100. x

1990shopefulftm · 04/03/2020 18:18

My works given out tissues and wipes and got plenty of soap and had a conversation with every member of staff to check their recent travel and any future travel so I m not particularly worried. I m more worried because I have asthma rather than that I m pregnant.

LH1987 · 04/03/2020 18:19

I'm not, even though I am a little concerned but I think the media might be making me panic. I feel that if my partner is out and about at work everyday then he will bring it into the house anyway. Although I am now quite tired and grumpy due to pregnancy so taking some time off sounds quite nice :)

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2020 18:30

Is that the Birmingham city campus in China littleboy? It’s surprising that a British university has taken that decision without it being reported. I didn’t think Birmingham had many Coronavirus cases yet.

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2020 18:31

That should say “any” not “many”.

BadCatDirtyCat · 04/03/2020 18:40

If I had the option to work from home then I definitely would (sadly I don't have that option). It has been really stressing me out and I don't think it's an unreasonable fear. That said, if you can't work from home I think the only thing do is keep washing your hands..

FeelingBeautiful · 04/03/2020 18:43

@BadCatDirtyCat (i love ur name btw)
i can work from home from mid-April, before that I have holidays.
i am anxious but not hysterical and think i'll email hr to see what protocol are in place, if any. The main reason this worries me is that I ended up in a room with a client who had mumps in Feb and he emailed me the next day to tell me. I had been vaccinated so was fine, but still feel my baby is so vulnerable

@PurpleDaisies No this is UK, my son was told they are spending a few weeks altering the module so that it can all be done from home and then they will be closing. Tutor said other Bham universities are planning on doing the same.

OlivejuiceU2 · 04/03/2020 19:12

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and work at a uni. I have started to worry slightly as our office is student facing although they do not come into our office. No plans for us to close as far as I know but then haven’t had any cases reported.
I’m just washing my hands constantly and cleaning door handles, printers etc regularly before use. Not much more I can do. I can’t work from home either.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 04/03/2020 19:15

Nope nom newly pregnant, about 8 weeks. Frontline nhs staff, we had a scare at work today but all good. Baby is as well protected as it can be inside me.

peanutbear · 04/03/2020 20:38

My DS is at UOB and closing the uni hasn't been mentioned. If you give students two weeks off unless they go home they are still living in close confines of each other .

bobbypinseverywhere · 04/03/2020 20:40

I’m a pregnant GP, 17 weeks. I see about 40 unwell patients a day who regularly cough in my face. Frontline medical staff haven’t been given any protective equipment or precautions as it’s not currently deemed necessary. I don’t even have any alcohol gel. Just a sink and soap. I’m actually more worried about coming across slapped cheek or similar. You’re over reacting, sorry.
