I’ve just started mat leave but no, I wouldn’t be taking time off. Are you also planning on avoiding all public places for the rest of pregnancy/until this dies down? Like the supermarket etc?

I’ve got a toddler, she’s still attending nursery. We still go to softplay, we still go to the library, museums, park, swim pool. My OH is still going into the busy office. We are still shopping for food. Life has to go on. Obviously, I’ll be following medical advice closely, especially with a newborn. If it’s changed & we are advised to avoid public places etc, then we will.

Just wash your hands regularly and thoroughly. Try not to touch your face/mouth too much (I realise I do this all the time!). And keep following the advice being given by medics & the government.

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and work in healthcare contact with coughing and sputum. I'm slightly worried but not much I can do about it. I'm sure I will treat someone with it during this pregnancy will just have to carefully wash hands

You can't just take weeks off for no reason? Unless there is a reason to believe that you would be exposed? You aren't sick, and HR will probably just tell you to carry on as normal and make sure you wash your hands regularly!

@bobbypinseverywhere that's strangely reassuring! Ok, over-reacting. Thanks for message.
@BoI87, no but I can work from home a lot. I'm just nervous, and because there's so little known about the virus in pregnancy I wondered how other people were feeling. Only saw after i posted this that several other threads on Coronvirus exist with some similar concerns. I see now that it's too cautious to hole up at home, as much as that sounds so good right now with the nausea... thanks for your reply

@Flixsfoilball i totally agree, and it's reassuring to hear from women here who are more brave and sensible than I am Smile

I wish I could just not go to work until this is all over but unfortunately I work for the NHS & I need to be there, pregnant or not. If it helps we haven’t been told we are at a high risk & take the same precautions as everyone else

I'm going to be worried silly after my son is born as he will have a very bad heart, and if he survives his first few days and his open heart surgery he is gonna be very susceptible, so I need to worry about catching it then. Otherwise chances are it's just gonna make you feel really poopy and not pass on to baby, so try not to worry too much x

FeelingBeautiful · 05/03/2020 21:34

@Emberfoot I'm so sorry, I hope everything will be ok...and here I am going on about coronavirus Flowers

No I fully understand, it's only natural to be worried about things that can affect your baby's health, my baba is just going to be unlucky enough to be affected by ANY kind of cold even. Just keep up the hands washing and try not to touch face as much as poss and see how things go x

I work in a big office 3k plus people and there has been a positive case in the small town the office is located. So I’ve decided safer to work from home and just dial into all my meetings. There would be 200+ employees at the office who live in that town. So I figure better be safe than sorry.

It’s hard to know based on the sensationalist media when it’s going to quieten down and be dealt with more methodically. It feels it’s a bit of a tipping point the next few days on what they decide to do re restricting people’s movements. All we can do is make decisions day by day on what feels right I suppose?

I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant & my workplace is based in the grounds of a county hospital & due to the nature of the company I work for we have lots of international clients who attend the building on a daily basis - which CAN pose an increased risk. Not to mention international medical students, doctors & nurses who are in & out of the centre constantly on a daily basis.

I have spoken to several different doctors & they have all said the same thing;

  • Compared to the rest of the world the infection rate is very low, the media are blowing things out of proportion.
  • Basically all of the deaths that have happened have been elderly/underlying health conditions.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene like washing hands etc.
(All this came from a specialist in infectious diseases who was presenting a briefing In CV-19 so I'll take what he says over anything else!)
