looking for advice, i'm a first time mum so everything is all new to me

I'm 35 and a half weeks and have gestatinal diabeties so i'm checked every 2 weeks by the hospital.
my alarm for work goes off at 7, i woke up at 5 and couldnt get back to sleep to stayed awake, from 5 o'clock to 7 i never felt her move once, i got a bit worried so i took a cold drink and eat some toast and still nothing. at about 8 o'clock this morning i felt her move about a little. she is usually really active in the morning when i'm getting ready for work so i called the MAT assesement unit and explained, she said 3 hours is not enough time to start worrying and i was to eat something sugary, i explained i couldnt as my GD and i was concerned as i felt something was wrong, she told me again its not enough time to cause concern just yet... i felt quite fobbed off and she made me feel a bit silly for calling
I have headed to work and drinking cold water, she is moving about a little but her movements are defo reduced?
Should i just show up to the MAT assessment ward or am i being overly anxious...

Yes just show up and get checked

Waitingforplastertodry · 24/02/2020 10:24

I would just turn up to be honest. There seems to be conflicting advice around reduced movements, with some HCP saying eat something sugary, and others saying that’s rubbish. I don’t think they can refuse to see you?!

Reallybadidea · 24/02/2020 10:24

I think that sounds like poor advice from the assessment unit. I would call back.

Rachael321 · 24/02/2020 10:29

I would call back and say they are still reduced after you've done all they have said and it has now been another 2-3 hours so long enough to tell if different to norm.

SinkGirl · 24/02/2020 10:32

Please go in and get checked out - one of my twins stopped moving at 35+1, I needed an emcs right away. Don’t wait, turn up there if you can or call again and say you’ve had reduced movements for five hours. They need to put you on a monitor.

William2007c · 24/02/2020 10:32

@Waitingforplastertodry
Thank you, the midwife just kept saying its not enough cause for concern and when i said i have tried this this and i felt something was wrong she kept repeating it wasnt a cause for concern just yet... I am just going to show up to the MAT assessment ward now

@william2007c let us know how you get on

RandomWok · 24/02/2020 10:39

Hope everything is alright OP. Glad you are going to get checked out.

Haz1516 · 24/02/2020 10:40

Always better to be safe than sorry. Hope all is ok.

latheritup · 24/02/2020 11:11

Yes please just turn up. I was induced early due to 6 periods of RM. Once you're there they will have no choice but to take you seriously.

Dinosauraddict · 24/02/2020 11:18

I hope everything is ok. With Gd it is particularly important to get any reduced movements checked!

ShirleyPhallus · 24/02/2020 11:19

Never worry about going or be fobbed off. Hope you’re being seen now and all is ok Flowers

QueenOfOversharing · 24/02/2020 11:36

Good luck. I turned up once (my midwives said always to do so) - just put your mind at ease.

Keha · 24/02/2020 11:59

I have been in twice due to reduced movements. Both times I rang up and said "I'm X weeks pregnant and I might have reduced movements" and they said come straight in, didn't even ask for how long or how much. Glad you have gone in.

sjmco · 24/02/2020 12:09

I had reduced movements too couple weeks ago (36+3) and I called and they told me to go in straight away. They monitored baby and was happy to let me go after. Never feel silly for calling! Call as many times as you need to and if you are not satisfied make sure you do go in.

cuddlypenguins · 24/02/2020 12:31

3 hours is certainly enough time for reduced movements my midwife always told me to trust my instinct so good on you for trusting yours and going anyway. I went in for it 5 times and everything was fine they never made me feel silly at all, then the 5th time they sent me for a scan and induced me the next day at 38 weeks. Bad advice is dangerous and instincts are there for a reason Smile hope all is good and healthy!

Yummymummy2020 · 24/02/2020 12:55

Don’t let anyone make you feel silly, even if there is no problem at all you are right to go and any decent midwife will be delighted to see you and be glad of a happy mammy to send home again!!! I understand the worry my placenta was at the front so I found it hard to feel movement sometimes and I was suffering with diabetes too, you need nerves of steel sometimes in pregnancy with the worry it brings! Best of luck when you go in and well done for going!!!

Carlywalford94 · 24/02/2020 14:12

I'm 34 weeks and have reduced movement from my boy have been going on the monitors every two weeks and you can also walk in and ask to be monitored. They have said my placenta is Infront of baby so have had reduced movements due to that. Just go to the hospital and they will monitor his heart beat it's definitely reasurring. Also ask where your placenta is sitting.

muddypuddles12 · 24/02/2020 14:19

Keep us updated OP and hope everything went well at assessment unit x

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 24/02/2020 14:23

Hope it went ok xx

R2D2abc · 24/02/2020 15:07

What silly advice they gave you to eat something sugary. Apart from you being GD but you shouldn't force sugar to make baby move. Obviously might move if you give them extra glucose, they'll have to produce lots of insulin to burn that extra sugar.

Hope all good with you!

Delbelleber · 24/02/2020 16:53

How did you get on?

MamaMama20 · 24/02/2020 21:47

Hope you got on ok OP
