Unbearable constipation

I'm currently 15+4 and so badly constipated!

I've tried
Hella lot of fibre
Safe laxatives
Prune juice
Oranges
Drowning my body with drinking water
Sitting on the loo hoping for the best
Baths
Liquid foods for 2 days

Nothing is helping. I get the urge I need to go and it's like I'm squeezing and it's just a tiny nugget! Sorry for being so graphic but I'm at my wits end!!!!!!! I've been told I have a tilted uterus, also causing me bad bladder problems. Recently had a catheter in due to not being able to wee for anything.

Anyone help or can relate to my misfortune? 🥴

I think it's an unfortunate pregnancy side effect which only gets worse the more pregnant you are sadly!

The only things that work for me when feeling awful:

Only eat fruit all morning then have a really chocolatey hot chocolate (or coffee might do the trick but I'm not a coffee fan!)

McDonald's!

Eminado · 20/02/2020 21:58

Try warm milk to stimulate a movement, peppermint tea to ease the discomfort.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 21:59

@user1464279374

God coffee used to send me into the bathroom before it hit my stomach when I wasn't pregnant! Now I just get a caffeine headache and no bowel movement Confused

Going to go back to doctors and sob. See what more they can do for me I can't carry on like this!

Can you use glycerine suppositories to ease the compacted bits out and re-set things?

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:00

@Eminado I've tried the milk too! Will give peppermint tea a go x

I was also going to say glycerine suppositories. They’re a life saver. I’m also pregnant and consultant has told me they’re safe.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:02

@Eminado will ask my doctor about them. I used dulcolax which I was told was safe and the pain was so bad I thought I was going to go into labour!

Also tried lactulose which I regularly took before pregnancy and it make me vomit for 2 hours!

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:02

@ClubfootMaestro looks like they're my next try :)

Look up dr bri on YouTube. Also - this is intense but was told this by Pilates physio in pregnancy classes- try squatting for a while and when you are on the toilet put your feet on a stool to raise your knees higher than your hips.

Alicia870 · 20/02/2020 22:07
shes a specialist women's health physio her content is very good and worth a try
ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:07

@Alicia870 my boyfriend had me doing that! Also been doing the feet on stool trick every toilet trip with no luck.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:09

@Alicia870 thank you! I will have a look x

Are you taking supplements? They caused havoc with my bowels.

bonzo77 · 20/02/2020 22:13

Movicol is THE biz. I was so bunged up with my last pregnancy and was terrified to poo as I had a fissure too. Had to take 8 sachets the first day or two but got it down to 1-3 a day, and continued till healed from my section. I get quite constipated around ovulation too and find movicol a godsend. It really works without any of the griping normal laxatives give me.

Surfer25 · 20/02/2020 22:18

I was about to say movicol

Or the cheaper generic version cosmocol

No pain and no cramping.

Imo dulcolax ought to be prescription only, it is so horrible.

ginandtonicformeplease · 20/02/2020 22:23

Linseed - a nutritionist recommended them to me. Put some in a cup and soak with water, then have a couple of teaspoons - pretty grim but does the trick!

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:25

@Iggly just vit D at the moment! Come off iron to see if that was the problem but clearly not.

Will give Movicol a whirl if doctor recommends. Going to try and get an urgent app tomorrow.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:27

@Surfer25 dulcolax is the absolute devil. The first time I took it I went into a state of shock and was begging for an ambulance! My boyfriend thought I was dying (no dignity left after that)

@ginandtonicformeplease never heard of that!

I'd suggest a squatty potty or something similar- doesnt need to be that exact brand. Sitting on a western toilet makes your bowel go into an S shape, whereas squatting straightens it out and making pooing a great deal easier and quicker. A squatty potty helps to straighten it, by lifting your legs up, but not into a low down squat.

Even lifting your legs up on one of those little childrens stool/steps can help. I have a fold up style. Our bathroom is tiny and hubby doesn't like using it. It was the only thing that helped when I was constipated. I also added chia seeds to yoghurt in the mornings. good luck x

Blurby · 20/02/2020 22:28

I'm the same - feel like I'm shitting glass.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:29

@Elouera I've tried putting my feet on the toilet seat or on our toilet bin! Helps my teeny poops but no more luck than that! haha! I love chia seeds! Never thought of that either x

Sending you lots of sympathy.

How long have you been off iron for? It made me hugely constipated and that lasted for weeks!

I Used movicol and also found fresh orange juice from Sainsbury’s (no where else bizarrely) worked well for me as well as milkshakes or hot chocolate. There were days in was in such pain from when I’d swing between bouts of diarrhoea and constipation that I really thought I was in labour.

ironicmorrisette · 20/02/2020 22:32

@WinterCat thank you Smile about 3 weeks now. I've been chugging away at orange juice and eating 2 oranges a day with no luck. Maybe I need to try a different brand. Got my DP running all over the place for all my unsuccessful remedies. The joys!

howells · 20/02/2020 22:36

Have you tried lactulose? Or Fybogel? You can get those and Movicol over the counter. Much sympathy to you, I had the same problem!

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 20/02/2020 22:36

Movicol. Fine in pregnancy. For me nothing dietary works - especially as “far gone” (constipation wise) as you are. Movicol movicol movicol.
