stretch and sweep. i had 2 - the first started things off, slowly, the 2nd revealed that dd's head was on top of my cervix - she was holding herself in! once that little problem was sorted out she popped (well, kind of).

peanuthead · 04/09/2007 13:10

Humph. 9 days over.
What if your cervix is too high up for a sweep - it seems to have got lost up there somewhere, have had two midwives groping about up there but they can't reach.
Which presumably means that sex is a waste of time as the semen won't get up high enough.
have tried
-clary sage in the bath for the last 6 nights
-walking up hills
-hot currys
(and by the way the raspberry leaf thing bringing on labour isn't true - it tones the uterus ie when labour comes on it should result in good, regular strong contractions. Been on that for 5 months...)

I'm now spending all day (and night) weeping in a depressed heap - is that normal when you're overdue?

missyhols · 04/09/2007 13:14

I've been massaging clary sage on my belly. With a base oil obviously! I'm not overdue but i'm a absolute wreck too. So your not alone.

Evening primrose oil tablet worked on my second.

smileyjimjams · 04/09/2007 13:38

Nothing worked for me - I tried acupuncture, sweeps couldn't reach my cervix, I ate curries, tried clary sage etc.

I was finally induced which I was very apprehensive about. Infact it only took one lot of gel to get things going and I had a normal vaginal delivery about 12 hours later. It was nice not having to worry about when to transfer to hospital.

MrsScavo · 04/09/2007 13:50

Acupuncture.

Jasmine oil - I accidently spilled a lot over my bump, and it seemed to work.

themoon66 · 04/09/2007 13:50

Curry and lots of long walks.

hairycaterpillar · 04/09/2007 19:05

When I was working in a rural village in India the women there would run round and round the fields...I have NO idea how they managed it, I could barely get up the stairs at home without being out of breath by the time I was 9mths!

Beachcomber · 04/09/2007 19:18

Have a friend who went overdue with both her babies.
To avoid induction with her second she tried EVERYTHING but what seemed to get things moving was acupuncture.

A wonderful friend paid for it as an alternative to an unnecessary baby gift.

Previous to this, said friend bounced on ball, ate curry every night, managed sex (and oral, she was desperate) drank pints of raspberry leaf tea, etc, etc.

Went for acupuncture as last resort before induction and had the baby 10 hours later. Worth a try IMO. Good luck!

BrightonNim · 04/09/2007 20:36

I tried and tried and tried...

Pinapple - lovely but no luck
Curry - indigestion
Rapsberry leaf tea - yuck, but amazing what you get used to when you have it often enough
Sweep - sore, midwife was convinced it would work but...nothing
Sex - just ended up with period-like pains for a couple of hours, sure it was starting and then...nothing
Walks - more of a waddle really
Yoga - relaxing but no joy
The threat of induction - perhaps that was what did it, the day before they would have wanted me to go in?!

missyhols · 04/09/2007 20:43

Lol. I want to try this accupuncture malarky!

Eating a giant pizza

iloverosycheeks · 04/09/2007 20:45

i was 16 days over and the midwife told me to have a hot curry but with loads of cumin in it... dunno if worked as we tried everything that day... we had sex as last resort and contractions started immediately, unfortunately it was late at night so I had no sleep, if trying sex thing do it in morning!!!

missyhols · 04/09/2007 20:53

Tried pizza last night.

Lol at sex in morning, doubt my hubby would be pleased about waiting as he thinks he's on a promise. Dd wakes me up fairly early too. My days of lay ins went 21 months ago when she was born! Lol

Went into hospital to be induced, as per my GP, hospital refused to do as only week overdue, so pissed off Started myself that day not sure if mass of ironing and cake baking I did helped or not

carries · 04/09/2007 22:52

DD1 I tried all of the above and ended up being induced. She was born 12 hours after the first contraction.

DD2 - scrubbed the bathroom inc behind the toilet and skirting boards, went shopping and mad dash up to hospital to visit my sister and jaundiced nephew, had my first contraction in the car on the way home. DD was born the next day.. just before midnight.

Good luck, and I reckon the cleaning the bathrooms did the trick.

SkittlesAreFruitGroup · 05/09/2007 02:12

Acupuncture worked for me - started 40+3 term, had three sessions in a week, and DD arrived 10 days over due.
Not sure that acupuncture necessarily induced labour, however it definitely ramped up the prelabour tightenings I was having the day before baby's arrival, and my acupuncturist said that acupuncture can often ensure a good/efficient labour, as body has been 'told' to prepare for the party.

daydreambeliever · 05/09/2007 02:15

Reflexology. Did it for me!

12lbnaturally · 05/09/2007 02:20

Walking for a couple of miles with a double buggy did it for me.
