Did anyone have a glass of wine in their pregnancy? I did in my first pregnancy maybe a glass once or twice a week after 20'weeks but not at all in this pregnancy.

Curious what other people's view points are.

No, not worth the risk. My midwife said a bottle of wine is worse than a packet of fags. And everyone is against smoking in pregnancy, and I don’t think it’s right to drink either.

@ChickenDippers123

Everyone has their own perceived risk tolerance.

I've not drank in this pregnancy but I wouldn't judge anyone who decided too, my consultant last time said there was no harm in moderation!

I didn't touch a single drop - including 3 months before and during TTC, whole of pregnancy and over 16 months of breastfeeding. I wanted to be in peak health and it's my choice. No longer breastfeeding and still haven't had a drink as I've found I don't miss it so now I'm tee total. Each to their own.

You just asked what other people’s views were so I gave you mine!

namechangeryadayada · 09/02/2020 18:45

@ChickenDippers123 as I did mine!

@firstimemamma i was the same after my first, I didn't feel like drinking at all, it was about 18 months before I felt like it again.

Yep a couple of glasses a week the midwife suggested this but said to not drink the bottle

namechangeryadayada · 09/02/2020 18:48

@user1494050295 I had the same advice, but it was a few years ago now.

No. Not worth the risk. I also don’t see the need or point. If I wasn’t willing to change my lifestyle for children I wouldn’t have bothered having them.

Anastasiaqueensouth · 09/02/2020 18:51

I did but only at weddings/Christmas/birthdays

Tombakersscarf · 09/02/2020 18:52

I gave up wine when pg (started again when bf) but wouldn't bother me if someone else had a glass while pg - a bottle I would think would be wrong. BUT I also gave up caffeinated drinks (so yay me) but not chocolate (boo me) - I think statements about giving stuff up for your kids ignore the fact that while we can all make changes, no one leads a perfect life in all ways and judging eachother is not the way forward.

BecauseReasons · 09/02/2020 18:52

Nope, but I've never needed alcohol to have a good time. It's not something I miss.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/02/2020 18:53

If the research isn't clear either way, why risk it?

meow1989 · 09/02/2020 18:53

I had two teaspoons of prosecco and a bit of foam off a Guinness (I know that sounds like I'm joking but I'm not). I did enjoy a lot of alochol free beers. Didnt seem worth the risk to me.

puds11 · 09/02/2020 18:58

Alcohol is a drug, it’s never going to ‘be ok’ for a baby regardless of the research. It’s not ok for us really we just are better equipped to process it.

Totally up to the individual if they want to drink or not but quoting research as a way of justifying it is pointless. Just say because you want a drink 🤷‍♀️

Personally I don’t, I’m currently pregnant with my 3rd. I do find it very difficult not to though.

namechangeryadayada · 09/02/2020 19:02

I think everyone is entitled to do what they feel is right, but I think it's a bit silly saying don't quote the research.

There is very little I personally would do regarding my body / children without research because I just felt like it!

If I wanted a drink I wouldn't post on Mumsnet for opinions, I was just genuinely interested in views as it's been a few years since my last PG!

@RositaEspinosa

Which varies greatly depending on the country and research!

I probably had about 4 small glasses of wine during the pregnancy and a few sips of beer.

firstimemamma · 09/02/2020 19:07

"I think everyone is entitled to do what they feel is right" are you sure op?

Plenty of people drink quite a lot during pregnancy because they 'feel it is right' and go on to have children with problems as a result. Do these people count as part of 'everyone'?

puds11 · 09/02/2020 19:10

@namechangeryadayada I’m not saying don’t research things 🤦‍♀️ I’m saying don’t try to justify your actions based on the research saying ‘there’s no long term damage’ or the other crap people trot out instead of just saying ‘I’d like to drink’. Sorry if that was complicated.

namechangeryadayada · 09/02/2020 19:11

@firstimemamma

Yes, of course they do, do you actually sit at home and judge everyone who makes bad decisions all day?

Where would you stop? Unless you think pregnancy woman should have their bank cards taken away and locked in quarantine until they give birth.

@puds11

Yes, sorry my small brain can't handle the complexity of your paragraph, totally spot on there! I mean the audacity of me to disagree with a random person on the internet, outbloodyrageous!

Lovely passive aggressive rudeness.
