Hi!

Me and my partner are looking at going on a baby moon in April!

I will be 25 weeks but we have no idea where to go!

We wanting a super relaxing holiday but I know we can't go to Dominican or round there due to Zika virus. Same with shape verda which was our next option.

All the nice luxury places seem off limits lol.

Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Honestly, we went for a long weekend at a Spa hotel in the UK. It was incredible.

SparkleUK · 05/02/2020 10:33

We had a long haul holiday abroad just before finding out we were pregnant so the idea didn't really bother us too much as we felt we'd 'had' the experience.
We waited until I was 36 weeks a couple of weeks ago to just get a UK spa hotel deal with a few extras thrown in and it was lovely.
It depends how you'll feel about flying long haul at that time. For most people it's fine but I couldn't have thought of anything worse ha! There's lots to be had a lot closer on a good deal if you shop around

What is a Baby Moon?

KatnissMellark · 05/02/2020 10:35

Tenerife!

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 05/02/2020 10:36

We are going to go to Lisbon for a few nights when I am 25 weeks. I fancy a city break as it’s not the sort of thing to do with a small baby.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 05/02/2020 10:45

How is your pregnancy - are you sick / feeling under the weather / tired alot etc?

I have HG and had my honeymoon in the maldives at 10 weeks and the long haul flights were literally the worst thing i've gone through

We are going away next month - but I have made sure to book short haul (literally 2 hour flight) as the flight really knocked me off my feet - the turbulence turned me into the exorcist and the time difference was awful.
So just a heads up - short haul might be best! And then if you are poorly on planes its only for a short time.

Singsoul91 · 05/02/2020 11:45

Thanks guys.

Yeah more I think I definitely don't want to go long haul. I get quite car sickness now I'm pregnant so probably wouldn't last lol

I'm thinking a nice UK break or maybe Cyprus if we go abroad.

DappledThings · 05/02/2020 12:58

We went to Cyprus when I was 24 weeks and had a lovely week so I second your plan of there as a location!

jdy123 · 05/02/2020 14:00

I agree I think anywhere with a shorter flight so Cyprus, Greece, Tenerife or Lanzarote would be nice!
I'm off to Malaga for a quick 5 nights when I'm 27 weeks and I can't wait !
Spa weekend sounds amazing though I might plan that too!

timeforawine · 05/02/2020 14:02

We went to the Seychelles, was amazing

IamPickleRick · 05/02/2020 14:06

I went to Nice with dc1, Berlin with dc2 and dc3 I was just happy to get a full nights sleep, I didn’t care where!

timeforawine · 05/02/2020 14:10

Sorry posted mine before i saw your last update. Canaries is a short flight, had a lovely time in Tenerife last Nov

Smiffette · 05/02/2020 14:10

We are going for a long weekend in the Brecon Beacons when I'll be 30 weeks, only an hour and a half drive away and nice and peaceful location for some gentle slow walks...
We had planned to go on a road trip around Italy this year in March, however the closer it got I became more nervous going abroad at 30 weeks pregnant. IT's our Wedding Anniversary in September so figured we would go to Italy (not a road trip) with baby for our first attempt at a family abroad holiday as it's a short flight and we love Italy!

20+2

Keyboard91 · 05/02/2020 14:37

We went down to the South Coast in the U.K. at 25 weeks ... in all honesty I wish we had gone earlier as I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could’ve. I struggled with the bed (pgp) and with not being able to do everything I wanted to do (was too tired by mid afternoon). I was grumpy as a result as it was me who wanted to go and me who wasn’t enjoying it! But we just booked our usual premier inn in the location we wanted, and maybe if we’d gone to some sort of resort so I could leave the room to do something without going too far so I could come back etc, maybe Id of managed better.

It wasn’t the end of the world as baby was conceived on our annual week away, and we will be able to go away same time this year.

Nelbert19 · 05/02/2020 14:58

We’re going to Sicily when I’ll be 20 weeks - I’m planning on eating my body weight in pasta and pizza and coming back with a double the bump!

GaaaaarlicBread · 05/02/2020 15:29

We are going to Centre Parcs in June , I’ll be 28 weeks . Nice relaxing week in a cabin etc . We love it there and also going in December for babies first Christmas ! X

namechangeryadayada · 05/02/2020 16:06

We are thinking of Morocco, warm, no risk of Zika and a shortish flight!

RancidOldHag · 05/02/2020 16:27

What is a Baby Moon?

It's the term coined (I think by Active Birth Movement, but also used by other gentle childbirth organisations) in the 1960s to refer to the 'honeymoon' period after a baby is born when the new parents cocoon themselves with their newborn and have a calm period - normally at home - in which to get to know each other.

OP appears, despite thread title, to be referring to a holiday during pregnancy, not a proper babymoon

KittieKath · 05/02/2020 16:31

We are in the Cayman Islands now... holiday booked before we found out we were preggo but we knew it would be a possibility.

Hot and sunny, gorgeous beaches for sunbathing and snorkeling (we saw a turtle yesterday!) and the only place in the Caribbean without Zika risk nor a malaria problem.

Would highly recommend! Grin

@RancidOldHag is it really necessary to bring out the pedantry? The OP was clearly to referring too the popular meaning of baby moon, as would most people who were born after the 1970's. Hmm

gamerchick · 05/02/2020 17:03

What is a Baby Moon?

It's when you take to your bed after the birth, get waited on hand and foot while you focus on recovery and breastfeeding establishing.

@RancidOldHag is it really necessary to bring out the pedantry?

Yes. It's a holiday. It's doesn't need a name. It's like saying 'we're pregnant'.

Good luck OP, enjoy your holiday

Rainallnight · 05/02/2020 17:07

We went to The Scarlet in Cornwall and enjoyed it a lot.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 05/02/2020 17:38

Babymoon today is known as a time before the birth, when you can get away BEFORE all the baby madness hits.

CouldBeAGreatMum · 05/02/2020 18:01

Agree with @Letsallscreamatthesistene, it's your last 'adults' holiday before the madness. Also there are certain considerations which make the babymoon different to just a normal holiday, such as Zika virus as the OP has mentioned.

OP I'm planning baby moon the same month as you. So far I have pretty much decided the Canaries are the best option for me, because I want sunshine and warmth and a relatively short flight. I'm worried Greece would be too chilly. I'm trying to find a lush adults only hotel near the beach now.
