My bump has popped out overnight. I am uncomfortable in most of my clothes and I feel like "why no one told me" (sorry for the moan :) ).

I dont want to spend money in a new wardrobe, had a look online, even H&M and ASOS seem expensive. Do you know any good second hand shop for maternity? or even better, do you have any tips on how to get comfy in my current wardrobe?

Basically, how did you cope with style for your pregnancy? Thank you!

I wore Primark leggings next size up until due date. Specific maternity stuff I got from eBay - people sell bundles, and when new I bought from new look in the sale,.that was all for work. At home I just wore DH's loungewear

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 21/01/2020 19:50

I'm currently wearing £2.50 Primark normal leggings, just sit the waistband under the bump and it's the comfiest thing ever. I am struggling to get on with maternity atm as I hate things "high waisted" and they make me feel uncomfortable

KHall84 · 21/01/2020 19:51

Asda do really good maternity wear and cheap and also new look I have bought all mine from both of these even my winter coat which was only £20 in asda and I always get complements on it x

smeerf · 21/01/2020 19:52

I am living in ASOS maternity leggings (normal ones don't come high enough and are just so much less comfortable) and stretchy non maternity dresses with a longish cardigan over. Cardigans are super cheap from Gap Outlet and will last past pregnancy. I splashed out on a maternity coat this time but last pregnancy I just wore an oversized coat with a scarf down the front to cover the gap.

Grainedesesame · 21/01/2020 19:52

Thank you so much. Didn't know about those bundles. Looking at it right now. @gaffamate you've made my day

Same as @gaffamate! I basically live in Primark leggings and long jumpers.
I also bought a lot of oversized shirt dresses that are good for breastfeeding, to extend their use!

gaffamate · 21/01/2020 19:54

Facebook marketplace also a good place to look

Grainedesesame · 21/01/2020 19:56

@BeautyAndTheBump1 How many weeks are you? I agree with you. high waisted over the bump, not a fan

Honestly, im 31 weeks pregnant and my staples are -

some pregnancy dungarees
my husbands pj's

everything else I can cope with!

I got a bundle that included work trousers on eBay, bought a new dress from new look sale, pyjamas a few sizes too big for hospital, and then leggings with my partners t shirts. His boxers were also good under jeans so I didn't have a vpl but they stretched enough to be comfortable, and after the birth they were more comfortable and held the massive pads much more securely, I remember having my bath post birth and attempting my own underwear but then just shouting him for a pair of his 😂 midwives loved the idea, and if you have a c section depending on both your sizes they should stretch over the scar enough to not rub

namechangingtime · 21/01/2020 20:06

My own pyjamas are all pretty elasticated but the ones that stopped stretching enough towards the end were replaced by my partners too 😂 he didn't have many clothes left by the end 😂😂

PollyRoe16 · 21/01/2020 20:07

I lived in a few stretchy midi dresses from H&M and then just layered T-shirt's and jumpers I already owned above the bump. I bought one actually maternity dress in the sale in Topshop and that was it ☺️

Jasmine491 · 21/01/2020 20:07

i bought a few £2.50 vests and t-shirts from primark and continued to wear my normal clothes. I connected my trousers under my bump with a hair band and used the vests and t-shirts to cover it as they are quite long. See what in your wardrobe has some give. If you can find 3/4 outfits to wear outside the house then wear pjs at home.

Constantlurker · 21/01/2020 20:10

I plan on buying a pair of maternity dungarees, about 4 tops and then just rotating each day for 5 months or so!!

Boymummy3 · 21/01/2020 20:30

I've just had my baby and I've lived in leggings from asda and long tops or my husbands tops. I've never bought maternity and this is my 3rd pregnancy I think most maternity stuff is expensive and not that flattering. I bought long tops that I'd still wear for after pregnancy.

VDM1420 · 21/01/2020 20:33

I have found the OH clothes to be a god send! He isnt much bigger than me but because male clothing is a loose fit to begin with it has helped massively and probably saved us loads!

DawnK77 · 21/01/2020 20:42

Boohoo is cheap maternity and not too bad actually, so I am living in Boohoo work trousers , leggings, t shirts. Also got some maternity leggings from loveleggings com they are really comfy.

Hall84 · 21/01/2020 20:46

I've also been using Asda. It's not massively expensive but I picked up some jeans in the sale for £6. I also got some vests from h&m as they can be used for feeding afterwards. Otherwise just jumpers/cardis and loose tops when it was warmer in the summer (although the bump was a lot smaller then!)

shutupsteph · 21/01/2020 20:54

I'm plus size so maternity clothes are an absolute nightmare.

Wore next size up leggings for a while then settled for the worst quality maternity leggings from amazon, but at a few quid each and comfort I couldn't grumble. Tops wise it's mostly stuff I had before losing some weight pre-pregnancy or cheap tops from boohoo. Work clothes were flowy size up tops or maternity tops from boohoo/asos.

At home I've basically lived in DPs pyjamas!

Bol87 · 22/01/2020 06:48

I splashed out on one pair of maternity dungarees and then you can just keep wearing your regular jumpers underneath as no-one can see they look ridiculous 😄 I bought a few in a bigger size from primark as well. Again, they don’t look the best but under the dungarees they look fine! I have one maternity dress that I use on the days I need to look smarter. Not too expensive from New Look. Primark leggings for super comfy days & often I at home I wear my OH T-shirt’s!

CupCupGoose · 22/01/2020 07:47

I'm on my third pregnancy and I've never bought maternity clothes. I'm 36 weeks now and I bought two pairs of normal h&m leggings, which I've been wearing with long vest tops (that just about cover my bum) and my normal tshurts/jumpers on top.

I suppose it depends on what you have to wear for work though as I'm lucky in that I can wear whatever I want.

Boohoo is cheap but the sizing is a bit weird sometimes.

R2D2abc · 22/01/2020 07:52

The only pregnancy thing I bought is a pair of jeans with high bump, and some new kickers to accomodate my growing bump.

I always wore my normal tops( not all of them will fit well, but most look still nice). To say I usually buy longer tops.

I'm 26 weeks and yesterday I tried on of my normal trousers ( they were a bit wide at the time with me) and they fit me nicely. Just kept the button open and covered with a stretchy top.

As this is not my first I try not to buy too much specific pregnancy stuff as I won't be using afterwards.

For pyjamas, they all still fit, I mostly wear leggings and T-shirt's.

managedmis · 22/01/2020 12:17

I bought a load of XL leggings and floaty tops. Accessorised with scarves.

AprilFernLouise · 22/01/2020 13:27

All my maternity clothes have come from ebay and are all from topshop/ new look / h&m and were so cheap.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 22/01/2020 13:47

In the house I wear Lidl maternity leggings that I got for £1 in the sale, with my normal t-shirts as doesn't really matter that they're a bit short now.

I bought a pair of maternity work trousers from Asda for about £8, very comfortable. Also found a pair of Asda skinny jeans reduced from £10 to £6 which look good. Went a size up on a formal coat from cotton traders sale that has done well for work.

I got a couple of pairs of underbump mothercare jeans from eBay but the condition was a disappointment and I realised I prefer overbump anyway.
