Looking for some advice, heard so many mixed reviews about these machines and a few friends have said they are great. Anybody used and liked? Pros/Cons?....Thank you x

It's the best thing I got for my second pregnancy and was annoyed I hadn't got it for my first.

It's so quick and easy to make bottles rather then waiting for a kettle to boil then cooling it with a screaming baby in your shoulder at 2am when you've barely had any sleep.

I have nothing negative to offer. There were some stories talking about black mould in the pipes at the back. We never experienced this. I bought the special screwdriver to open it to check and it was fine.

Amanduh · 02/01/2020 20:49

Best thing ever.

sohypnotic · 02/01/2020 20:50

So good I have 2 - one In Kitchen and one upstairs- ultimate convenience lol

Newmumma83 · 02/01/2020 20:50

Love it

Akire · 02/01/2020 20:52

They are great, complete bottle in about 60 secs. Uses boiled water to scald milk and kill any bugs then adds water at right temperature.

ParkheadParadise · 02/01/2020 20:53

We had 2.
One in the Kitchen and one in the bedroom.
It was definitely worth the money.

ReginaPhalangeee · 02/01/2020 20:54

Not worth the money IMO x

harrypotterfan1604 · 02/01/2020 20:54

It’s the single best item I ever purchased!

No health professional i know would recommend or buy 1 for their own babies- they won't all get problems with mould etc but not worth the risks imo

Scrumptiousbears · 02/01/2020 21:01

I wonder how many health professionals have got one. I doubt the answer is none.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 02/01/2020 21:02

You do not need one! I had one that I loved until I realised...

Just keep a bottle of cooled boiled water in the fridge. Make your own shot of boiling water by boiling the kettle to make up the formula (about an inch of boiling), shake, top up with your cooled boiled water.

Identical process to perfect prep, for free.

schafernaker · 02/01/2020 21:07

They aren’t recommended, although we just made up a batch of bottles and stored them in the fridge 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Also not recommended)

ListenLinda · 02/01/2020 21:10

Wouldn’t be without mine. We had one lent to us with DD, When we found out DS was on his way, my parents bought us one before we had the first scan I think. Helped them out too as they have my kids overnight every other friday and they love the convenience too!

Tiddlertoddler · 02/01/2020 21:12

One of my best buys, makes life so myself easier! As long as you buy the replacement filters regularly.

Bol87 · 02/01/2020 21:41

Best thing I bought. Contrary to the above posts, both my HV & GP recommend it to me when I switched to FF. My GP had one herself .. she gave me lots of advice on using it safely.

One was popping your scoops of powder into the bottle first and then add the hot shot (which is the other way around to the instructions but makes so much more sense). Paranoid mum me stuck a thermometer in after I’d done this and it remained at 70 degrees the entire time I mixed it on multiple occasions. She said it takes seconds to kill bacteria. So once the shot has hit the powder and been quickly swirled through, bang, the bacteria is dead.

Breeding ground for bacteria in the tubes - keep it clean. It’s not hard. I did a flush through once a week with Milton just to safe but probably a bit OTT. Not a hint of mould in a years worth of use. I checked the tubes regularly. I suspect there’s more bacteria in my kettle which I don’t clean very often! Just be vigilant..

I’ll be digging mine out for no.2!

mrsc1987 · 02/01/2020 21:57

We just got one half price in mothercare closing down sale so got a bargain. We too didnt know if we should get it due to the reviews but the good outweighs the bad with the reviews and i love how easy it sounds.

Natmac190715 · 02/01/2020 22:09

Thank you everybody for the replies. Still undecided haha, don't want to waste money which could be better spent but the convenience especially for night feeds sounds a dream. My son is 9 so it's a bit of a gap and so much has changed since then. X

Used for 2 of mine, 1 not. Best purchase, couldnt imagine going back to how I did it with my first now!

SpoonSpoon · 02/01/2020 22:19

You can’t use a shot of boiling water straight from the kettle - it needs to be about 70 degrees and the formula states letting the kettle cool for 30 mins

This is because booking water burns the formula and some of the nutrients

ChocolateCoins19 · 02/01/2020 22:20

Best thing ever.
Using it again for this dc.
I do the clean wash with kettle Water weekly.
Dd was fine.. Never ill with bacteria issues...
I know a lot of people who use them and no issues.

june2007 · 02/01/2020 22:20

Is it necessary... absolutely not.
Is it recommended ..no in fact it is not recommended.
Is itt safe... Perhaps not hence not recommended so It,s a No from me. (and firsts steps nutrition who advice the nhs.)

Soontobe60 · 02/01/2020 22:22

My DD had one much to my disgust (what a waste of money/ space/ time) but as soon as her DS went on formula at 8 weeks my mind was changed completely. He slept over at mine from then on every couple of weeks, and again using the PP was a godsend when I was on my own.
Think about how to safely juggle a boiling kettle and screaming baby at the same time at 2am. And for the pp who said it's not hot enough to kill any bacteria, yes it is! You can feel the heat when you shake the bottle before the cold water goes in.

Nogodsnomasters · 02/01/2020 22:22

Best thing I ever owned. Yes tubes can go mouldy if not cleaned frequently or properly but there is step by step instructions on how to flush the tubes out correctly so really not an issue if followed. The convenience is amazing when you are so tired that you want to cry and your baby is screaming for the bottle to come quicker!

Woeisme99 · 02/01/2020 22:34

I'm a health professional and I've used one on both dc, bes thing since sliced bread.
Buy one second hand on your local FB group for about £20, see if it suits you.
