Looking for some advice, heard so many mixed reviews about these machines and a few friends have said they are great. Anybody used and liked? Pros/Cons?....Thank you x

Best thing I ever bought, used for both my babies. I paid £50ish in the sale but would have paid much more, it was worth every penny

Scubalubs87 · 02/01/2020 22:49

My SIL is a paediatrician and she used one. Everyone I know who has formula or mixed fed has used one. They make life that little bit easier.

Sparkle733 · 02/01/2020 22:52

100% recommend one!
Especially in the early hours I definitely could not be bothered faffing about with a kettle and all that!
You would not regret buying one of these.

Caspianberg · 03/01/2020 07:46

@SpoonSpoon - that is incorrect. The nhs and WHO both say 'no longer than 30 mins' as after 30 mins the water is definitely under 70 degrees. Not to aim for 30 mins. You can use the boiled water straight away if it suits.

We were told in our antenatal classes that they're absolutely not recommended and advised against buying them.

Not sure why people don't just do the 'hot shot' with a wee bit of boiling kettle water then use cooled boiled water in a sterilised bottle for the rest?

SquigglyOne · 03/01/2020 09:24

I was considering buying one until being told at our antenatal class they’re not safe.
Pretty sure it’s just a case of health and safety gone mad but i wouldn’t want to take the risk personally.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 03/01/2020 09:39

Wouldn't be without ours now, it'd a godsend! Only thing is that you can't use it until 4oz so kettle for the first couple of weeks and then on to the PP, I love mine and have a baby who is instantly hungry and has no patience so it's so useful!

SpoonSpoon · 03/01/2020 20:54

Caspian

‘’ : Boil the water. Then leave the water to cool for no more than 30 minutes, so that it remains at a temperature of at least 70C.’m

Yes so it shouldn’t be 100 degree, which is boiling (I’m sure you know)

Boiling water burns the nutrients

THis is a fact

SpoonSpoon · 03/01/2020 20:58

Also I used cow and gate and the instructions state ‘leave to cool for 30 mins’

At the same time as saying failure to follow the instructions may make your baby ill

Well I sort of did because I ditched the instructions and got a perfect prep machine ...Shock

NemophilistRebel · 03/01/2020 21:02

Loved mine. Will be getting new for number 2

Wowzel · 03/01/2020 21:08

I loved mine. If I ever have another baby I will definitely use it again.

Never had any problems with mould, cleaned it regularly. It was the best.

(I'm a nurse so it's not true that healthcare professionals won't use them)

rainbowcakes · 03/01/2020 22:41

Recommend 100%, best thing we bought for our baby. I paid a bit more and got the digital one which tells you when to clean/descale and change the filter Smile

Firstimer703 · 03/01/2020 22:47

Best thing ever!

Queenofpi · 03/01/2020 22:49

Every mum I know who has one swears by it. Buy one second hand if you're worried about the cost and give it a thorough clean - use Milton's solution or boiling water. They are worth every penny. And my daughter is mostly breastfed! Still worth it for the nights my husband is on baby duty and for when people babysit.

tiredtrumpet · 03/01/2020 22:50

It was hands down my best purchase! Keep it clean and change the filters as soon as it prompts you too. It also prompts you to clean the pipes with distilled vinegar and you just fill it up and press the de scale/clean cycle. Used it with both my babies.

It saves a remarkable amount of faffing with the kettle.

Wheelerdeeler · 03/01/2020 22:53

Best purchase ever. My sil used on 3 babies and none were ill

Macake · 03/01/2020 22:55

Best thing I bought next best is nasal aspirator with saline

NemophilistRebel · 03/01/2020 23:27

Does anyone know if it’s worth spending the extra on the day and night new version of the perfect prep machine or is it no better than the original?

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 04/01/2020 00:00

Loved mine.
Made life a million times easier, especially at 3am with a unhappy newborn.

If I have more I'd definitely get another one.

Natmac190715 · 05/01/2020 08:22

@nemophilistrebel I spoke with my friend yesterday who has a two month old boy and she has the day and night one. She said it's better than the original as it tells you exactly when to change filter etc so it's not a guessing game. She said she prefers it to the old one. X
