Just that really, I can see older threads asking the same but I am after recent experiences.

Thanks 🙂

Just one night, I had mine in June, went in 7am had section at 11am, had catheter removed and bloods taken at at 6am and once the bloods came back okay and I was able to wee I was allowed home!

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 19:04

OK thanks all, I'm slightly wary of the 24 hour discharge as last time I was in for five days due to issues, but I can't imagine going after 1. I have a two year old who I will miss terribly but I am also conscious he will be very excited and maybe an extra night would give me more strength. DH wants me out ASAP because of the risk of infection. Mw said 1night, consultant said 2! So I guess we will see

Elective at 7pm on the Tuesday, ward were happy for me to go at breakfast time on the Wednesday - I stayed until 4pm in the end then left.

Crabbitstick · 15/12/2019 19:16

Elective at 5pm on Monday and out Wednesday afternoon. In theory we should have been out on the Tuesday but section ended up much later in day than planned. That meant I wasn’t up walking until the next day, The surgery was a bit rigorous - lot of tugging to get baby out (not normal, complications specific to me) so I was feeling pretty delicate. Monitoring for infection was very thorough. I was glad of extra night in hospital.

orangejuicer · 15/12/2019 19:20

2 nights. ELCS at 10am Weds, home by 11pm Fri.

My daughter had a section last year. Midday Friday out by midday sat. I thought it was far too early but she came to mine on the Monday for a bbq.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 15/12/2019 19:55

I’ve had 3 CSs and my minimum stay was 3 days.

2 were EMCS, the elective was the 3 days stay.

twinboymumma · 15/12/2019 19:55

Elective section on Thursday, home Sunday afternoon. Few concerns as I had twins so they were a tiny bit early and small(ish).

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 19:57

Thank you. I am going in on a Wednesday, do you think it makes it more likely I will be discharged on the Friday if not before? I think hospitals don't routinely discharge at weekends?

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 19:58

That said a few of you were discharged on a weekend so maybe it's just my previous experiences of our hospital

Your post of 19:04 worried me a bit; whilst DH might want you out because of risk of infection, (which I don’t get really, is that what happened last time) it’s totally what happens on the day.

If you have a PPH it’s likely you’ll be in three days. If baby has jaundice it’s usually three days. If baby drops weight after birth even if feeding is going well - there are SO MANY variables.

As for missing your firstborn, urgh its awful. But your DH can stay with DC1 whilst you get to know DC2. On paper it probably looks shit to you but IME it was quite nice to have peace to focus on my second born.

Don’t be afraid to plan for one scenario but have a plan B and C as well. And good luck x

Purpleartichoke · 15/12/2019 20:10

The soonest they would discharge baby was 2 nights, so we left after 2 nights. They would have liked me to stay for 4, but were begrudgingly willing to discharge at 2. I hadn’t slept a wink in 3 days at that point (I get bad insomnia in hospitals) and just wanted out so I could recuperate from surgery.

hazeyjane · 15/12/2019 20:13

8 nights as ds was in SCBU

Rubyroost · 15/12/2019 20:38

I also had an emergency c section, was in two nights but would have been one if it wasn't for b feeding issues

Rubyroost · 15/12/2019 20:44

@Justasconfusedwithnumber2 you do know you can discharge yourself, but it's on your back if anything happens?!

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 20:45

Yes @PaulHollywoodsSexGut, I was treated for infection, as was my baby. We'd already had a 3 day labour, failed forceps and then the ecms. DH is also quite OCD about germs so hospitals are his nemesis. Dc1 also had difficulty feeding as a consequence of birth trauma so lost alot of weight. I am hoping this time it will be easier but I am also conscious about trying to go home too soon and then ending up be readmitted. I totally get there are a thousand possibilities of what could happen, but as its been playing on my mind, it's been useful to see other people's experiences. My mw is really adamant I won't be there more than a night which to me was surprising.

OP posts:
Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 20:45

Yes @Rubyroost but I doubt very much I would self discharge

OP posts:
Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/12/2019 20:47

Sorry, I think last time was quite traumatic for me so I've gone abit OTT trying to predict and plan this one....probably really not a good idea!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 15/12/2019 20:52

I say this in the best spirit OP, you must go in keeping an open mind, accepting that things may go a bit awry and that so long as they actual CS operation itself is straightforward you are a bale to face whatever the next stage throws at you.

It was the only way I could cope when everything with DC3 went Pete Tong after the traumatic delivery of DC2. DC1 was a doddle.

Would it make you feel better to manage DH in that you tell him he’s there for the birth and then he’s “stood down” to attend to your DC until you leave hospital? Do you have any family or non germ phobic friends you can enlist?

I mean it though, it’s highly likely this is going to be just fine and you’ll be out the next day or something. They are a lot more - um - “nicely brisk” with second timers

bluebluezoo · 15/12/2019 20:52

When i had mine it was 3 nights minimum stay.

Tbh the post natal wards were so horrendously overstaffed i barely saw a midwife. I’d have been better going home asap where dh can help pick up the baby and get me tea and toast. Plus a clean shower.

I didn’t actually have any pain relief after my first one as i threw it up every time. Managed fine.

Stilllivinghere · 15/12/2019 20:56

Emergency section 3 nights, elective section 26 hours. I was ready to leave after 20 hours but we were waiting for discharge meds. Sent home with codine. Was told I’d be in for one night, but actually I could have stayed longer, there was no pressure to leave hospital.

Morgomargot · 15/12/2019 20:59

Last year I stayed 24 hours. I was determined to get home because I knew I would recover better at home. I knew I was well and my baby was well so I pushed to go home. The trust where I had my baby has a 24 hours policy in place if everything is ok but they are very slow to get doctors to discharge so you have to keep asking.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 15/12/2019 21:00

2 nights but only for help with breastfeeding. If I'd been more confident/had switched to formula earlier I'd have been out in 1.

doadeer · 15/12/2019 21:04

5 days for me earlier in the year. My iron count was very low so they had to do a transfusion and monitor and baby dropped weight fast so we were monitored for that too. But I don't think my situation is the norm
