Urgent poll - Would you go to Paris at 8.8 months pregnant?

I'm due 25th Sept.
Proposing to go 8th/9th Sept.

If I deliver there is that so bad (other than not having my home birth).

If we wait then we can't go for ages on our own as I'll be breastfeeding, so for a break that is just for us it's kinda now or never.

So, is it now, or is never?

Personally I wouldn't go, but that would be because I wouldn't want to give birth abroad in a place where I don't speak the language very well.

I would think you would really need to double check your travel insurance if you do decide to go to make sure of how you will be taken care of if you do give birth there.

Kinda what I'm thinking too really.

Bloody annoyed with DP though tbh as if he'd found / sorted a new passport earlier we'd have been and gone by now. It was supposed to be my birthday present (Aug 7th).

Hence need for wise mums whose judgement isn't clouded by severe annoyance and hormones!

personally, i wouldn't, but i also have a history of early births. can you still travel abroad at that late stage though?, how are you going, plane, ferry, eurostar?

Oh sorry, if I was going it would be a Eurostar job from Waterloo to Paris (we live in London)

personally, no way.

if you feel you could cope with "worst case scenario" abroad, then go for it, providing travel insurance will accept you

Nope, sorry. DS 3 weeks early, wouldn't have fancied waters breaking on Euraostar or plane. Upholstery disaster!
Posh hotel in the UK maybe?

I might. But both my DSs have been over a week late. I'd have to find out what maternity services are like in France.

Right, sounds like I'm going to bed really pissed off with him then, but that's better than having a terrible hospital birth in a Parisian hospital aye.

Stupid useless non passport holding git, he naused it up again.

flying/ferry are subject to restrictions on traveling when pg, there are no restrictions on eurostar/tunnel, so in theory, you could go.

Can he not get an emergency passport in 24 or 48 hours. I know you have to que and all that but it's the least he could do. Or am I out of date?

Not sure, he probably could, point is it should have been done and now the next tiem we can go is 8/9 Sept.

No - had had both of my boys by then!

And if head is engaged it will be very uncomfortable walking around, doing anything - and you won't be able to drink anyway!

Save it for later would be my view.

I officially hate him right now. He's so bloody useless and annoying.

He keeps saying 'don't worry about it, we'll go and have a lovely time'. - wtf?

I'm going to offer to take him to New York for his birthday in a couple of weeks and then do fuck all about it and see how he likes it.

Doesn't he know not to mess with a pregnant woman's birthdayness?!

You can get an emergency passport and if you book an early appointment the wait is not long at all. I got an emergency week passport and was in and out in ten minutes.

I would not go at 8.8 months pregnant, mainly because I felt like an uncomfortable beached whale and could not face all those skinny ultra stylish french women but I am shallow like that

Would I go to Paris at 8 months pregnant? No, but then I was an exhausted wuss about going anywhere by then, had to get off my feet, etc. etc.

But why is it now or never? 'Ages' might go quite quickly!

Thomcat - sorry that you feel disappointed. But am with other posters - no way I would go that far gone in pregnancy. Where are you located? I would make him take me to a nice hotel - with a spa that specialises in nice mummy to be packages. I know it isnt paris - but am sure you can have a nice time.

I wouldn't go personally as I'm 30 weeks now ad can barely walk round the house let alone Paris. Is there any reason you can't go in few months, say April time, Paris is gorgeous then, not too hot, not too busy and bub will still be small enough to snuggle happily in a buggy while you hit the shops, museums or whatever floats your boat. Hmmm, may have to go book something myself...

OO and just had a thought, if you're putting your Paris trip off, DP owes you an 'meantime' birthday pressie ... spa pamper day, expensive new haircut, shopping trip for post-birth clothes...
