Daft question but -

Can you sleep with the side down adjoined to the bed or does it need to be up when you sleep?

Looking at one as an option

Thanks

There a total waste of money baby grows out of them in the blink of an eye same as moses baskets. If you want the option of easy access to baby just get a normal cot and have one of the sides off with it attached to the side of your bed it lasts till they no longer need a cot about 2yrs old and is cheaper and simpler

Bluebell9 · 14/12/2019 01:49

As long as your bed is the right height, you can sleep with the side down. The crib gets strapped to the bed so that the is no chance of it moving and baby getting caught in the gap.
It's much bigger than a moses basket, DD didn't like how big it was so she's in her moses basket at the moment and will go in the next to me when she's a bit bigger.

Horehound · 14/12/2019 01:55

Side down but there is a small rise of fabric on the open side so it's not completely open .
I agree with pp they are a waste of money. Think my baby has slept 4 nights in it and he's 16weeks old. He's currently in with us and the next 2 me holds my juice and phone etc.
Although I have a Moses basket downstairs and use if alllll the time!
I'll sell you this one if you like...it's as good as new!

I loved my next2me! The Best Buy I bought for my baby and would recommend it to everyone! My baby was in it till he was 6 months or so, loved being able to see him sleep and was so easy to settle him just by putting my hand in whilst lying in my bed. I'm due my 2nd baby in March and won't even be bothering with a Moses basket and will be using my next2me from day one x

Thanks everybody:)

Check it will fit your bed. We couldn't put the side down as there was a gap

GenericUsername101 · 14/12/2019 02:45

I loved my next2me and used it for both my boys till they were 6months and moved into their own room. Attached to my bed with the side down all night, much easier and no getting out of bed to feed, also you can pop a hand on the to settle to sleep without even sitting up :-)

Pippinsqueak · 14/12/2019 03:00

Mine used hers until she was six months old. Get a second hand one if you can. It's also very good if you're going away for the night in those first few months.

theworldhasgonecrazy1 · 14/12/2019 03:19

Definetely worth the money and even better if you can find a cheap/2nd hand one. I bought mine for £80 brand new from eBay. My DD hated her Moses basket and will only sleep either in my bed or in the next2me with her sleepyhead

Thoughtlessinengland · 14/12/2019 03:42

Bought ours four years ago, DS used it for 6 months. In next four years it got used by SEVEN babies of colleagues friends and neighbours and have just picked it up from the last person it landed up with for DC2 due soon. Replaced mattress and currently by my side of bed bringing back memories of DS first six months. Best thing :)

WatchingTheMoon · 14/12/2019 03:47

The baby should be at least a foot away from your bed to prevent the possibility of smothering.

turnthebiglightoff · 14/12/2019 04:25

@WatchingTheMoon that's not the current guidelines.

I loved my next to new - DS was in it til 6 months. Side down and bf in the night is a doddle! :-)

WatchingTheMoon · 14/12/2019 04:36

turn It's the current guidelines from the AP who I will trust over any UK guidelines because they're actually scientific and evidence based.

Lullaby Trust still saying blankets are fine as long as they're tucked in - no thanks.

WatchingTheMoon · 14/12/2019 04:47

firstimemamma · 14/12/2019 04:56

We loved ours.

CaramelCrunch · 14/12/2019 07:39

DD2 is currently asleep in her Next2Me. Didn't have one for DD1, just a Moses basket, but this thing has been great this time round. Mine was second hand from eBay though so only £40, and I'll probably sell it on after. New I think they are around £200 which wouldn't have been worth it for me (this is definitely our last baby!)

mintich · 14/12/2019 07:43

You can sleep with the side down and my babies slept in it every night until they were 6 months old! I recommend it to everyone

BertieBotts · 14/12/2019 07:47

AAP is far less evidence based than UK guidance! For example they recently admitted that their guideline for no TV under 2 years was totally made up! They have also for the last ten years refused to speak out against very popular products in the US which put babies at an angle to sleep and have caused several deaths. Whereas our guidance has been "a firm flat surface" for all that time.

Anyway. I agree with the advice to convert a normal cot, ikea ones convert well. Other than that I agree it's worth it :)

PixieDustt · 14/12/2019 07:49

I got the next to me crib and we love it.
Moses basket they grow out of really quick.
My DS is 5 months and still has loads of room in it. Until he can start pulling himself up obviously.
We have the one which doesn't have the zip down the side but the side has a bar instead which comes down

PixieDustt · 14/12/2019 07:51

I do agree with @WatchingTheMoon. You have to be really careful. We don't have ours right next to the bed and the side goes up as I was scared
I was going to bring the duvet over DS

mintich · 14/12/2019 07:56

They can't get near the side of the bed because there is still part of the side that is up

WatchingTheMoon · 14/12/2019 08:04

bertie

They do actual studies. The NHS just cobbles together random advice from charities.

Of course evidence isn't always correct. Guidelines change all the time.

I move around a lot in my sleep. I would never be able to sleep knowing the duvet could end up in a bedside sleeper. The baby can also end up stuck between the sleeper and the bed.

It's a small chance but I'd rather eliminate all small chances.

thefluffysideofgrey · 14/12/2019 08:12

The NHS and NICE do meta analyses.

WatchingTheMoon · 14/12/2019 08:13

While the NHS still recommend blankets, I won't listen to anything they have to say on the topic of safe sleep.

Teachermaths · 14/12/2019 08:18

Next2me was pretty good for my first, lasted at least 7 months by which time baby was in their own room.

I'd definitely recommend it. Totally depends on what type of baby you have though!

I couldn't fit a normal sized cot in our bedroom so this was a good compromise.
