I was in the hospital over night last night.. and was at my midwife at 3pm and she tested my urine and all but didnt say anythin about dehydration but from yesterday I tried to drink more a bit more water but not much.. I've had a really bad dry mouth during the night, smelly urine, fainted yesterday.. cold sweats and light headed.. I also got told I had gestational diabetes but I dont think its anythin to do with that as my readings have all been perfect, 5.0 and 5.1, anyone any advice?? Got given iron tablets in hospital but bit confused as the first blood test I done my iron was okay then the 2nd blood test I got down my iron was down so they gave me iron tablets

Did they check for UTI?

Boymummy3 · 11/12/2019 22:38

I have had dehydration earlier on in pregnancy and I literally couldn't even move. Thirsty all the time banging headache feeling sick was shivering but absolutely roasting at the same time absolutley exhausted.

I'm just out of hospital at like 6pm but they never mentioned dehydration but that's probly cause yesterday after I fainted I tried to drink loads of water .. they gave me iron tablets but one blood test they said my iron was good then the other was a bit low so I dunno why that would be

Yes it could. Or your blood pressure could be low. Or your BP could be low because you're dehydrated. Or your sugar levels could be all over. Or it could be an annoying pregnancy side effect.

Sadly lots of things can make you faint when you're pregnant thankfully not too many are serious.

I have low BP at the best of times and it's been shocking while I've been pregnant, passing out if I stand up too long which is a bit of an occupational hazard!

They wouldn't have discharged you if they had serious concerns for your health but defo drink more, all fluids count as fluid intake but water is most definitely the best. Less shit to filter out so more moisture to your gut and therefore your blood and system works better. It'll help you avoid piles and constipation too!

Wow! Definitely could be dehydration! Take care of yourself OP

I'm so upset cause I'm meant to be gettin my hair done next week and think I might have to cancel it incase I feel sick and am mid way through hair and end up saying I have to go and like half my hairs dyed then I have to go up to antrim every 2 weeks and then with christmas and my birthday on the 3rd of January, then I have a pregnancy photoshoot like imagine I was at a photoshoot and I felt faint 😂 my bf paid it for me for my birthday.. might just cancel all them :( yeah my blood pressure was 93 I think?? Over 60 whatever the fuck that means, then went up a bit to 96, is that Good, and my blood sugars have all been like 5 1 and 5.2 so all good!

If you have been prescribed iron tablets then it's probally because your iron levels are low.. Give them time to kick in and see how you feel x

Em8725 · 12/12/2019 10:55

I fainted a lot when I was pregnant. My blood sugars were all over the place constantly, my blood pressure is naturally low so pregnancy seemed to make it lower in me. I also was regularly dehydrated and suffer from chronic UTIs. When I felt dizzy, I was advised to lay on my back with my legs up (they realised I couldn’t put head between my knees when pregnant😂). After 20 minutes or so I’d be ok to get up, have a drink and something a bit sugary, and I’d feel fine. If you do feel faint please lay down. I went down hard a few times, you can’t fall and hurt yourself if you’re already on the floor!

Penny12355 · 12/12/2019 11:01

Maybe I'm eating no sugar at all?? Since I've been told I have GD I've literally ate nothing sugary, I've just ate meals, like a toastie for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, then like chicken for dinner and somethin before bed . What was ur readings?? My lowest one has been 4.1, then its went to like 5.0 and it's always been like that

Most people should be consuming 2 litres (4 pints) of water a day. Pregnant women usually need more.

Getting more water into you will reduce the dizziness and sickness, and could also reduce your chances of getting a uti.

LLMD · 12/12/2019 11:15

You’re not having no sugar at all if your drinking fizzy drinks like Fanta etc as you said.

I had dehydration at 36 weeks and was kept in hospital. UTI was found which turned into sepsis.

Never mind the hair appointment and the photo shoot, look after your health and go to the hospital/doctors if you’re not feeling right.

Penny12355 · 12/12/2019 11:57

I havent ate any sugar or anythin either, Is that bad?? I have GD, yeah I was in the hospital for a day and they just said my iron was at 105 so a bit low, so now I have iron tablets, yeah I might cancel them but my boyfriend has it paid for :(

If you’ve got GD I wouldn’t eat sugar following a dizzy spell unless advised to by a midwife/doctor. I didn’t have GD. They said the fainting in me was due to a bit of a combination of the factors I mentioned above, but a UTI and low blood pressure would be enough to cause a faint. Keep drinking water, and get your urine sample dipped for ketones at your next midwife appointment. Mine had to be reminded to check for it at every appointment. I had a high risk pregnancy but a low risk birth with my first, so try not to panic. Just take each day as it comes and try to relax a bit more, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water. If you’re concerned, ring your midwife for advice, or your GP. Give the iron tablets a chance to work too. They may stop the dizziness.

buddhababy2019 · 12/12/2019 12:07

I had this a few weeks ago where I almost passed out and spend he afternoon in the MAU - I was told my urine sample showed I was dehydrated and that I should be drinking 3-4 litres a day while pregnant.

endofthelinefinally · 12/12/2019 12:13

All carbs turn into sugar so your bread, potatoes etc all count. It sounds as if your diet is reasonable. Not the sugary drinks though. You need to quadruple your water intake. Your blood volume needs to increase a lot in pregnancy to support the placenta and fetus.
BP of 90/ 60 is a bit low, so probably the reason you are fainting.

Penny12355 · 12/12/2019 12:38

Usually my bp is like 104 over 60, but they done my bp in the hospital when I was lyin down all day, does it still count as water if you put a bit of blackcurrant dilute in it? It's just I'd drink it more cause I dont like the taste of water

What were your symptoms of almost passing out @buddhababy2019 ? How did u feel right before it x

OP posts:
buddhababy2019 · 12/12/2019 13:11

@Penny12355 I came over in a sort of cold sweat type feeling and everything started to spin. I was in the supermarket and genuinely felt like everything was closing in on me, started shaking and heart was pounding and then I ended up with pins and needles in my fingers. I knew I had to sit down or I was just going to go. Very scary feeling.

Penny12355 · 12/12/2019 13:28

@buddhababy2019 that's how I go! Except it even happens me when I'm sittin down! It's never happened me standing up!

OP posts:
buddhababy2019 · 12/12/2019 14:26

@Penny12355 I've since had it sitting down too - it's really not a nice feeling at all. Have you had ketones in your urine by any chance? The midwife keeps freaking out about the levels in mine but then the GP and MAU all say it's nothing to worry about as I passed GTT. I don't know who to believe lol

endofthelinefinally · 12/12/2019 14:56

Diluted squash is way better than nothing.
Diet drinks are full of sodium so not good for dehydration.

cherryblossomgin · 12/12/2019 15:14

I am terrible with staying hydrated. I am not pregnant but can see how it could cause dizzy spells. I drink sugar free squash most of the day but used to drink Pepsi max or coffee all day.

I always have a water bottle next to me. The one I am using now is 700ml. I aim to drink 3 a day. It took a few weeks to get in to the routine. I was drinking 10 cans a day.

You can also get these en.waterdrop.com/. They are safe for pregancy and could help.
