I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Looks like my little one has plans of his own! Just been admitted with pre eclampsia so been induced tonight. Cannot wait to meet my little one! So close how.

Hope you are all doing ok.

Bol87 · 19/03/2020 13:28

My bambino is here Grin Arrived in a great hurry on her due date! No time for any pain relief, goodness it was bonkers!

Wasn’t sick during labour but felt pretty grizzly afterwards. I lost a lot of blood & so my blood pressure is struggling.. I feel very queasy & faint everytime I try get up Sad But, when laid on the bed, I feel fabulous! I’ve scoffed so much chocolate 😂

Connie222 · 19/03/2020 13:54

@Bol87 congratulations!!!! Flowers

ConstantlyPanicking · 19/03/2020 14:02

Massive congratulations @Bol87!!! Well done you for getting through with no pain relief too!! Enjoy all the chocolate you can manage Flowers

boulevardofbrokendreams · 19/03/2020 14:55

Congratulations @Bol87!!!

Hope everyone is staying safe (and indoors!

LucindaE · 19/03/2020 18:49

Bol87 Wonderful news that baby arrived, and so quickly, and that you can eat. Flowers Smile Brew Cake But it is tough to have lost a lot of blood; I remember it takes a couple of weeks to build it back up. We will miss you a lot; you have given such great advice and been invaluable. Star. Do drop in now and then if you can find the time.
abbs1 Goodness, dramatic, but I am glad they have probably delivered baby by now.
BeautyandtheBeast That is so dismal. It is a long time to go without eating. Sadly, the ketones may be climbing. What do they measure? Are milkshakes of any sort, maybe chocolate, bearable? Could you get a delivery of ice cream and maybe that?
Waves to all.

Does anyone else feel worse when they’re stressed out/not sleeping well??
Possibly losing my job/facing a massive pay cut because of coronavirus, hardly slept last night with worry and I’ve spent all day vomiting Sad was doing pretty well lately too.

boulevardofbrokendreams · 20/03/2020 15:05

@Calliope87 Yes I feel the same - I’m not facing the same stress as you but I don’t think it’s coincidence that I’ve been feeling more nauseous / being sick when I hadn’t for a couple of weeks.

Hope all is ok with you @abbs1

LucindaE · 20/03/2020 18:46

Calliope87 I am sorry to hear that. I hope you can get some help from the financial measures being offered -deferred mortgage payments, etc.
Unfortunately, hormones are affected by mood of course, and Hyperemesis is much worse if you can't sleep well. I hope you get a good sleep tonight.
boulevardofbrokendreams This is certainly a worrying situation all round; but you women on this thread have already shown how tough you are by managing to get through Hyperemesis an hour at a time. It is a bit of a double whammy to have to have Hyperemesis during this other crisis. I suppose everyone will get into the habit of doing the same with the Corona virus crisis.

Hello all, both happily and sadly I need to rejoin. I had my DS in 2017, though have name changed. @LucindaE I had an extreme reaction to ondansatron...

I have been trying for a while so elated to get my bfp this morning. I have been feeling nauseous for the past week or so and threw up for the first time today.

Slightly worried about the timeline as I didnt feel sick until 7.5 weeks last time and this has been before my missed period this time.

I am due end of November all things being well. I managed to speak to my GP today and been proscribed promethazine. Cyclazine did nothing last time.

I am 3 years behind in my knowledge though so will be reading through this thread.

Sorry to everyone suffering. If it helps any first timers,I had fairly moderate HG last time, and it sadly lasted my whold pregnancy and I was throwing up in labour. However, the minute the placenta was removed I immediately felt better. It didn't last whilst I was bf'ing either. Though I only lasted 3 weeks...

Connie222 · 20/03/2020 19:30

I’ve had a terrible few days.

I’ve gone backwards completely. I’m really hoping that it’s because I’ve not been sleeping and stress. I’m so stressed at the moment it’s unreal, like a lot of people I guess. I’m terrified of when I’m due in August and what will be happening then. I keep wishing I could turn back time and not be pregnant Sad

Bienentrinkwasser · 20/03/2020 21:17

Hi everyone. I was on this thread a couple of years ago when I was pregnant with my son (different username) and sadly after think I might have avoided it, I’m back.

I’ve not kept anything at all down today. I’ve tried really hard and forced myself to eat three (small) meals, and sip water/squash but I’m still feeling like death warmed up. I’ve dipped my wee and my ketones are as dark as possible. We’re bloody isolating because DS has a temperature. I’m going to try sipping dioralyte and a sleep but I’m so scared of ending up admitted.

abbs1 · 21/03/2020 14:34

My little one was born early Thursday morning at 38 weeks.
They found I had pre eclampsia Wednesday evening so I had to be induced straight away.
Induction was intense as I went from 1cm to 9cm in less than 2 hours so didn't have time for pain relief as they weren't sure I was in labour yet due to how fast my contractions were and then it was too late. They were back to back contractions and even an injection to slow them didn't work. Ended up with a last minute epidural but that didn't work either so labour was hard. Delivered him in 7 hours total! Gosh what a journey but I'm so glad hes safely here. 5lbs 12oz and hes perfect.

LucindaE · 21/03/2020 19:49

abbs1 Congratulations on your 5lbs 12 oz baby. That is surely good for 38 weeks. I know you were anxious about baby being small. Star Smile Flowers Goodness, that sounds a tough labour - you must have been very brave to get through an induced labour without pain killers. Wishing you all happiness with baby. We will miss you on here.
Welcome back to FilthyforFirth. That sounds unpleasant about the extreme reaction to Ondansetron. I believe various people have had good experiences with Promethezine. There is a new drug for severe pregnancy sickness, Xonvea, whom some sufferers on here find excellent. I am not sure about the expense aspect of that. Did you find an anti acid helped you last time? As you are a veteran, I don't need to say 'have you got kesostix as while they aren't the best test of dehydration, hospitals do take them serously' and 'do you find ice lollies, flat full sugar coke or the juice of tinned fruit any good'. I do remember that I had nausea before my period was due, and I didn't suffer for long compared to many, so hopefully the fact that you have had vomiting may not necessarily mean that it is going to be severe.

Bientrinkwasser Welcome back. Would ice lollies be any good for rehydration? If not, obviously you have to go in and no doubt they will find a way of handling it. I hope the Diorlyte does the trick.

Connie222 Don't be sad. There is never the right time to be pregnant. This may sound like a dismal time to be pregnant, but ignore the scare stories on the Internet. Of the Coronavirus. This Too Shall Pass, just like all very bad and very good situations. One thing is, you dont need to feel that with Hyperemesis you are missing out on having a social life. We all are from now on! The chances are overwhelmingly that all will be well for everyone on here. I remember a woman on here got Swine flu in that outbreak. She and her baby were fine. Gentle cyber pats to all who feel stressed.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Bienentrinkwasser · 21/03/2020 20:23

@LucindaE I’ve been craving ice lollies all day actually! I might try to add some to the Asda order we will inevitably get none of.

I’ve been drinking Tailwind today which is a hydration/electrolyte mix you’d usually use for endurance sport. It seems to keep me a bit more stable. I think I’m going to have to start Ondansetron as the metoclopramide really isn’t cutting it. The GP I spoke to at the beginning of the week prescribed me 5 days worth for an emergency. I just don’t know what I’ll do after that.

Bol87 · 21/03/2020 20:28

Ahhh @abbs1 - huge congratulations! After such similar pregnancies, we both also had fast labours! Mine was 4 hours 😱 Compared to my first daughter who took 3 days! And babies a day apart ☺️

How are you feeling?! I’m really annoyed today, woken up with a stinking cold and now I can’t taste anything! The first time in 9 months I don’t feel sick & now I can’t taste my food! 😒

Hope everything is going well & no lasting problems from the eclampsia etc Flowers

Shereendoc · 22/03/2020 10:58

Hey everyone hang on in there. Mine seems to be passing at 15 weeks on Cyclizine and I’m starting to get back into life. I know that’s relatively early for HG so I’m very grateful, but just to say it does end and life does return to normal - I was bedridden in a dark room for best part of 10 weeks unable to look at phone or tv or have any movement around me etc with the constant nausea, it was bleak as it is for most with severe NVP or HG. But it does pass. You can do it. One day at a time. Just keep trying to eat or drink what you can when you can and rest as much as is humanly possible. Smile

Bienentrinkwasser · 22/03/2020 15:41

Has anyone experienced not being able to keep warm? I’ve just had a nap, under the duvet, I’m wearing a jumper and hoodie, I’m lying in the sun like a cat, and yet no word of a lie, my toes are completely numb from cold. I’ve been shivering all day for the last few days.

boulevardofbrokendreams · 22/03/2020 20:03

Congratulations @abbs1 !!

LucindaE · 22/03/2020 21:22

Bol87 Lovely to hear from you. Sorry to hear that now you can eat, you can't taste! Sad I hope you can smell well enough to revel in the scent of your baby's head - I remember that deicious smell so well. Smile
Congratulations again to abbs1. Smile
Sereendoc I am so happy to hear that. Thank you so much for passing on your encouraging message.
Bientrinkwasser I hope you got some ice lollies. I think it is the low blood pressure that makes you feel cold.
Connie222 I hope you and others feel a bit less stressed today.

Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@Bol87 CONGRATULATIONS!

I spoke too soon before! HG back in full swing. Luckily (I hope) I'm at home for the next 12 weeks so at least I will get to rest loads. Finally got through to the GP this morning and asked for a prescription so I can combine my anti sickness pills.

The thought that this might continue all the way to the end of my pregnancy makes me miserable D:

LucindaE · 23/03/2020 21:51

Maz91 Sorry to hear it has come back. How far along are you? Might it be a hormonal surge?
Thinking of everyone. Just as Hyperemesis too will pass, so will this Coronavirus crisis pass as well.

LucindaE · 24/03/2020 20:07

I hope that at least this rule of 'work from home if you possibly can' means that many sufferers are having some help with LO's fromOH's, being home, anyway, at least part of the time.

Very quiet on here. I hope everyone isn't too depressed by the Coronavirus Pandemic. This is not the happiest of times to live through, least of all when suffeirng from Hyperemesis and anxious for the health of yourself and your baby; but remember that the NHS WHO and so on have to emphasize dangers as a duty. This virus is not as infectious as 'flu, say. Much sympathy to all.
