Morning sickness and gender

When I was pregnant with my girl, morning sickness was constant. I remember having to have a supply of crackers to hand and generally feeling tired and sick. This time I don’t have much sickness, maybe once a day and it lasts like 2 minutes. I don’t really feel pregnant which is a bit worrying. Did you have a different level of sickness with a different pregnancy and do you get less sickness with a boy?

Hi watching with interest. I had no sickness with my First DC , boy but now pregnant but had a lot of morning sickness in first trimester.

Natmac190715 · 06/12/2019 06:09

I have a little boy and was constantly sick up until I wAs 35 weeks. I don't think there is a link between it as my friend had two girls and two completely different pregnancies! X

Cecilandsnail · 06/12/2019 06:22

There's no link whatsoever with sickness and sex of the baby. I was a bit sick with my dd, not sick at all with DS1 and constantly sick with DS2.

SnowsInWater · 06/12/2019 06:46

I wasn't sick at all with either of my boys, threw up every single day of pregnancy with my daughter.

VodkaRevelation · 06/12/2019 06:51

As a PP said, there is zero link between morning sickness and sex. I had terrible sickness with two boys, I know loads of people with girls who also had sickness. Being pregnant can cause morning sickness.

rjb0206 · 06/12/2019 06:55

I had almost identical pregnancy symptom in the early weeks for both DS (toddler) and DD (due to arrive in six weeks) - bit of sickness both times.

Elmo311 · 06/12/2019 06:57

Boy and girl - morning sickness for 16 weeks with both!

DrPimplePopper · 06/12/2019 06:57

I was very, very sick throughout with my daughter, just queasy in first tri with son. I know pp said there's no link but I'm sure I read somewhere it can be due to the female hormones and your own hormones - no idea if that's a thing or just someone's random theory!

Boymummy3 · 06/12/2019 07:13

I'm having my 3rd boy and the level of sickness as increased with each pregnancy.

TheRightHonerable · 06/12/2019 07:16

I’ve been off work with sickness since 8 weeks and DS is due in march.

I’m actually terrified to have another incase it’s worse next time- barely made it thorough this! People keep telling me it’s worse with a girl 😭

I have 2 girls and a boy and was sick with all of them. 2nd was the worst, a girl.

preggers506974215 · 06/12/2019 08:12

Had sickness with both boy and girl. I just think every pregnancy is different. I have been much more uncomfortable this second time round (boy).

gumdrop2 · 06/12/2019 08:54

I had morning sickness with my DD, I had nothing with my DS, this baby is another boy and the sickness has been awful I'm 35+2 now and it doesn't take a lot to make me be sick still either Envy

Kezmum14 · 06/12/2019 09:47

I was sick multiple times a day with my first son. It didn’t stop until I’d delivered him. My second son I was sick once or twice a day until about 20 weeks. My 3rd son no sickness, 4th son sick every morning but fine afterwards. Now pregnant with my 5th and I’ve been sick a few times a day since 6 weeks, I’m now 10 weeks and haven’t been sick for 2 days but do feel sick. So all mine are different and so far all boys

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/12/2019 09:56

I was sick up to (& after) labour with all of my boys. Had a couple of days of nausea v early on with my girls. So for me sex did seem to make a difference. Maybe it depends on the mother.

Nelbert19 · 06/12/2019 10:01

The old wives tale is that baby girls give worse first trimester symptoms, but there hasn’t been any link found scientifically

Hope you feel better soon

Whattodoabout · 06/12/2019 10:39

It was the opposite for me. I had chronic all day nausea and some vomiting with my DS’s and nothing at all with my DD’s.

2shepherds · 06/12/2019 10:41

Kezmum14 your family sounds amazing. Good luck with number 5. If you do not mind me asking, do you intend to find out the sex of number 5 before (s)he is born?

DamnitCharlie · 07/12/2019 07:28

I don't believe it's linked either but . . .had terrible morning sickness with both pregnancies, both girls. Second time was much worse than the first time and lasted for longer- up until 20 odd weeks. I'm not having anymore children 😂

DorotheaHomeAlone · 07/12/2019 07:36

No link. I had very little nausea with first 2 pregnancies - one of each sex. This pregnancy lots of nausea and some sickness. Don’t know what we’re having yet but presumably it’s a girl or boy. Smile

BarleyG · 07/12/2019 07:49

Sorry - 2 girls, no sickness with one and constant sickness until 12 weeks with the other

Alderaan · 07/12/2019 08:07

A little nausea and no sickness with bpth pregnancies - a boy and a girl

Milicentbystander72 · 07/12/2019 08:19

Girl and boy.

Barely any sickness with either - however crippling headaches with both.

I agree every pregnancy is different though.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 07/12/2019 08:30

This was true for me -

DD: hyperemesis started in week 5 and by week 6 I was in hospital on a drip. Constant severe nausea, vomiting 10 times a day etc. Medicated throughout the pregnancy. The sickness never abated, it was just managed with medication. I didn't have a single normal meal until she was born

DS - mild nausea and occasional vomiting weeks 8 to 18. Totally manageable. Then nothing. Didn't feel pregnant. I felt physically super strong and energetic, more so than ever in my life. I was in disbelief every day - a sickness free pregnancy is the most amazing gift.

Both born healthy etc.
