Hey,

So Im 39 weeks and have woke up to period pains at first I thought I was just uncomfy but it's defo period pains. I know this is what contractions are supposed to feel like but the pain is very dull and I feel it low down. I can't feel my stomache tightening and it's mainly in my back. The feeling is making me feel a bit sick. Is this early labour or just bh? Its not too intense so I don't think it's full blown labour but it feel more than just bh

Could be early labour! This is how it felt for me. For me the pain was irregular like this for 6 hrs, stopped for 9 hrs then I was awoken with strong cramps & a bloody show. Labour was then definitely in full sing.

Keep an eye o things, take a bath or warm shower if you need to & wait to see if the pains become regular/Ramp up x

Sounds like my early labour did. It can change, could be braxton Hicks, could be real thing. Best way to know is whether it comes and goes, if it does then could well be. If you’re worried phone the ward and good luck!

Newmumma83 · 25/11/2019 02:34

I felt that Oman’s of for a few days before labour so in my personal experience I believe it’s the start

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 02:44

Okay I'm going to try get some rest and phone midwifes in the morning. I know it can take a few days for labour to start anyway :(

Timing them the are around 5 mins apart and a minute long but they're not too intense. I'm so confused lol

If they are 5 min apart and lasting 1 min , I wouldn't be waiting around too long to call the midwife. You sound like you're in labour so don't assume that you've got a few days to wait. It's more likely to be today .

glowingtwig · 25/11/2019 03:18

This was me 5 weeks ago... sounds like early labour. I thought I'd be days as I was expecting it to be worse! My waters broke not long after, everything ramped up and I had her the same day. I hope you have a lovely birth like I did, it was such an amazing experience Smile

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 03:24

Okay, I'm on the phone to 111 let's hope this is the real deal! :)

I'm a midwife and sounds like the start of labour. We would usually recommend waiting until they are 2-3 mins apart and getting quite uncomfortable.

You will know when they get to a point that you can't walk or talk through them, usually that means you are getting into labour.

Otherwise obviously keep an eye on movements, waters going or bleeding (a show is normal ) good luck!!

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 03:59

Thanks ballyboy that's the exact same thing triage just said to me

Ah best of luck, it's such an exciting time.

If you can't rest, a bath is great for the cramps, hot water bottle etc x

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 04:11

I've got a hot water bottle, trying to sleep but they're too frequent. I've heard early labour can last a few days, I'm unsure whether to let my partner know to not go to work.

My second labour started like that. I was convinced I wasnt in real labour because all the pain was very low down and in my back, and didn't hurt that much. I got my first regular contractions about 5pm, could chat through them, no problem. By 6.30pm they were coming every 4 minutes, lasting between 30 and 60 seconds. I got to the hospital at 7.45pm still convinced I wasn't in labour because all the pain was at the bottom of my bump and in my back, and I could still talk through it. Baby was born at 10.08pm. I was 5cm when I arrived at hospital.

I would tell your partner to stay home, you are probably going to meet your baby quite soon!

ladydoris · 25/11/2019 04:31

If you have to stop walking or talking it's the real thing. while you're at home make yourself as comfy as possible and have dim light it will help to hike the oxytocin level. Good luck and thumbs up !

ln2793 · 25/11/2019 04:35

Good luck- sounds like good signs :)! I'm currently 40+ 5 days and apart from having regular tightening (no pain) haven't had any other signs that baby is on the way. Slightly fed up with daily messages asking if she has arrived yet 👌🏻. Xx

Snowflake9 · 25/11/2019 05:00

Mine started like this. after a few hours my contractions were 2 mins apart and lasting a minute. We decided to go to hospital as it was 40 mins away . Got there to be told I was only 2-3 cm and should go home. The midwife took pity on me and let me stay though , she couldn't give me pain relief until I was in active labour.

My advice to you right now would be to drink a pint of water and take 2 paracetamol. Put a timer on your phone for 4 hours for your next lot. Don't underestimate the power of this stuff. If used properly it will help take the edge off.

All the best to you, you are strong and can do this.

LazyYogi · 25/11/2019 05:23

I'm 38+5 with my first and have had more intense Braxton Hicks plus period pains since 1am. They have eased off a bit since 3ish though. Still having tightenings just not as intense. Wish I could sleep but I can't seem to drop off.

Had a sweep last week and plug has been going since so think it's all going in the right direction.

I'm due to be induced on Tuesday due to bp issues so hoping I get into full swing before then.

Following your thread with interest. Hope you get your baby soon! 😁

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 09:36

Still same frequency and length of contractions but they are more painful now. Hoping baby comes soon, don't think I can handle experiencing this for 10+hours

Definitely recommend getting as much rest as you can - this stage lasted about 24 hours for me but wore me out as i had read to keep walking - also eat/drink whenever you feel like ot to fuel.you

gumdrop2 · 25/11/2019 09:56

Good luck have you tried sitting in a bath for a bit to take the pressure of your back it will all be over soon x

Snowflake9 · 25/11/2019 10:12

My labour lasted 34 hours... Please rest as much as you can. Definitely get in the bath. This was a god send for me. Remember each contraction is one step closer and one less you ultimately have to do xx

MyDcAreMarvel · 25/11/2019 10:15

My first Labour was like this but not painful at all, got to the hospital at 8cm dilated and dd was born 45 mins later. I would go to the hospital now.

Meanroda · 25/11/2019 11:44

Just had a false sense of hope that the contractions were stopping then had the worst longest contraction. Help lol:(
