Hi @Carr1978 congratulations!! I'm due around the 23rd June 😁 27 and it's my first. There's a June thread going already so pop over and say hi. How are you feeling?

Carr1978 · 15/11/2019 19:50

Thank you I go over now and say hi,
I'm exhausted and always feeling sick lol the Joy's, how are you feeling?

Hi @Carr1978 I'm 40 and 10+6 with my second. i am so so tired and I could just sleep all day if I could - it definitely feels harder this time around than with my first at 37. Doesn't help that I have an energetic 3 year old to contend with!

BigShock45 · 16/11/2019 17:04

Hello! As you can guess from the name, I’m unexpectedly pregnant at 45. I have three children, two boys in their 20s and dd who is 10. I was definitely not as tired with any of them. Nothing makes me happier than bed with a (decaf) cup of tea and a book by 9pm. Any later and I’m either grouchy or tearful. I’m 14 weeks, due mid May, and borderline terrified!

CoffeeAndCarbs · 16/11/2019 18:23

Hello,

I'm 35 and currently 9+3 with #1. I don't feel tired as much as lethargic. I've been suffering with insomnia for weeks which I think is related to the constant nausea. I have no problem falling asleep but then I wake up umpteen times during the night feeling really sick. I also end up getting up at around 6.30am most mornings.

Can't say I'm enjoying pregnancy so far. Looking forward to the dreaded first trimester being over x

Taylor38 · 16/11/2019 19:13

Hi, I’m around 10 weeks pregnant and it’s 7 years since my last pregnancy. I can’t remember feeling this exhausted last time!

Carr1978 · 16/11/2019 21:41

Hello I definitely agree it's much harder at this age for me, I have a very clingy 6yr old as well which is my youngest and my oldest is 24, I have 3 grandkids also, I work 3 days a week which I'm struggling with at the minute, didn't think I'd get pregnant so easy with only one tube and ovary but suppose it was ment to be, I was shocked but use to it now lol, I also cant wait until the 1st trimester over with and I get my bump, as people will understand why I'm walking around like a zombie then lol

Hi everyone I’m 41 42 next month and I’m 6 weeks + 2days pregnant I have a 11year old girl so this was a bit of a shock 🤪 does anyone else feel there is such negative stuff about being older and being pregnant

Carr1978 · 17/11/2019 16:21

Hello tinyrubygareth, I agree as when I told work colleagues the first thing they said was thought you was past it! Not to mention when I told my son who is 20 the first thing he said was its embarrassing!! The way I see it if we are able to still get pregnant in our 40's then we cant be too old as our body's wouldn't allow us to have them if we couldnt carry them.

Tonirubygareth · 17/11/2019 16:48

I totally agree! How are you getting on? My moods are all over the place 😂 and my boobs OUCH!! other than that I feel great no sickness nothing very similar to my first

Clc1607 · 17/11/2019 21:41

Hi, I’m 40 due end June with my third. It’s a bit scary, isn’t it? :) we don’t have any family, so it’s just two of us and our kids, keeping my fingers cross we can manage :)

Carr1978 · 18/11/2019 09:37

It is scary, I'm in same boat with no family but we always seem to manage so hopefully it will be okay, this time round I'm planning on a home birth if all goes well with pregnancy, hoping the group b strepps dont turn up again towards the end, has anyone else thought that far a head yet, birthing plans?

Hi, please may I join? I'm 40 and 6weeks with my first. We were about to start IVF when I got the first symptoms and took the test!

So good to hear from other "older" ladies going through this. So far I don't feel old but everything I read tells me I should!

I have a lot of symptoms and being a newbie I don't know if it's normal. These include, very sore breasts, cramps, acid heartburn, sensitive to smells, headaches. Last week i started getting a pain in my wrist which I'm told could be carpel tunnel, but I understood this is normally much later in pregnancy. Could it be this early?

I am not feeling tired although it's early days. I actually feel quite healthy because of the amount of fresh veg I'm eating! I'm sure this might change soon though!

Good luck everyone Thanks

MariaLisa · 18/11/2019 11:11

Welcome CouldBeAGreatMum! All your symptoms sound normal to me, but definitely discuss with midwive if something is of concern.
Carr1978, I’m definitely in a hospital with gestational diabetes. Had it with my first two, no hope I can escape it now.
In what part of the country are you ladies based?

BigShock45 · 18/11/2019 12:02

I’m loving reading all these posts, it’s such a relief to know you’re all out there with the same worries as me.
Carr1978 I’ll definitely be in hospital for mine. Think I have too many risk factors for a home birth.
Hi marialisa, I’m north Essex, close to boarders of Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Carr1978 · 18/11/2019 12:40

Hello everyone, goodbeagreatmom, I also have carpal tunnel my hands have a pin and needles type feeling and cause them to go numb, if I'm holding something sometimes I dont feel it in my hands so it drops, I find hold my arms in the air for a while helps it to go quicker, but you should definitely tell your midwife just so they no, I'm from wolverhampton, all your symptoms sound normal as long as the cramps dont make you loose your breath, I have little cramps, twinges and stitch type things now and then, think sometimes they also telling me to slow down lol as I've been very busy working and decorating

LillianFullStop · 18/11/2019 17:28

Hello everyone - anyone else been referred to a consultant by the midwife based on age alone? I just got a referral in the mail for 14w but I'm not sure if that is due to age or previous birth years or perhaps both!

11+2 today

Carr1978 · 18/11/2019 17:42

I've got a appointment with a dr at obs and it says no scan so not sure what that one is for, I be 20 weeks then.

Hi again everyone, I'm a bit behind some of you - currently 6 weeks so due July but it's helpful to read about other "older" (shudder) Mums! Never done this before - no kids and never been pregnant. Generally full of energy, do an energetic type of job and don't feel 40! This week I've been coming back from work and promptly falling asleep on the sofa for an hour and a half. This has happened everyday. I normally never ever sleep in the day. I'm also experiencing ongoing headaches- not terrible agonising pain but a headache that lasts all day. I am presuming this is all normal but just seeking reassurance.
I've had what I think is every symptom possible so far, apart from being sick 🙏🏼

Carr1978 · 21/11/2019 23:57

Hello couldbeagreatmom, I had really bad headaches earlier on, I also sleep a lot more now then I did before I got pregnant, could easily fall asleep on break at work, I never had that with any other pregnancy so the headache and feeling exhausted new for me, I've had 6 children so this be my 7th, I've constantly got the sick feeling but not actually been sick, where as in other pregnancies I've had morning sickness, I've also came out in spots non stop and tmi sorry, but I've had constant wind, really cant wait until the first trimester over with so I can start enjoying my last pregnancy.

@Carr1978 just checked my notes and found the reason for consultant referral is due to previous tear and maternal age so I guess it is both.

Welcome @CouldBeAGreatMum! The headaches hit me between 6-9 weeks and mine were horrible migraines. Could be due to dehydration as you need a LOT more water at this stage due to increased blood flow. Try drinking more water to see if it helps?

CouldBeAGreatMum · 24/11/2019 12:23

Thanks both, very helpful advice. Unfortunately today I am feeling worse and quite unwell. I woke up in the night with a horrible sore swollen throat feeling like I'd swallowed glass. I'm now feeling sort of flu-like- sore throat, a bet and shivers followed by hot flush, headachey and like I need to keep lying down. I also have no appetite. I'm a bit worried. I have luckily already had a flu jab this year as I'm asthmatic so it can't be the proper flu.

Is it possible I'm just under the weather and immune system low?
