Where to put baby to sleep in the day if you have a bedside crib

Hi all,

I’m planning on buying a bedside crib or Moses basket this week.
For those of you who have already brought a bedside crib like the next2me or snuzpod where do you plan to put baby during the day.
I really want one of the above but keep thinking how much more practical a Moses basket will be as it’s easily transportable for upstairs and down.
I already have a bouncer and play mat. I’m thinking if I do buy a side crib and then a baby sleeping pod ( Big round pillow) for downstairs, will this be suitable?

What has everyone else brought?

Thanks xxxx

I used the pram carrycot and then eventually a sleepyhead downstairs, worked well! At night I carried DS upstairs in the sleepyhead and put the whole thing in the next to me. Worked for us!

I just have a Moses basket that stays downstairs that she sleeps in.

When she's bigger I'll have a travel cot but that's because I have a very chaotic 2 year old who will probably flatten her. With DS I just put him in a bouncy chair or he slept on me

You can lift the snuzpod bassinet off the stand

We had a lovely rocking cradle (it does the rounds of my family) in the living room beside the sofa, but he's grown out of it now, so it's on me or in the travel cot/baby jail. Occasionally on the floor in his gym, if he flakes out there he's almost impossible to extract without drama.

I have a next to me crib upstairs and a Moses basket downstairs have a planned c section coming so can't be carrying up and down! Also there pretty cheap I got a lovely one with rocker for £60 online , I also have a bouncer and play at for when baby a bit older

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/11/2019 09:17

Bought a pram with a carrycot designed for overnight sleeping

NuffingChora · 14/11/2019 09:17

I got a secondhand snuzpod off gumtree and have put it downstairs in the living room. Admittedly this is second baby so we have a toddler and a dog, so needed somewhere secure and elevated to put baby down. Last time I think I used the sleepyhead or pram bassinet. Or realistically the sling mainly as she wouldn’t be put down anyway 🙄.

Ours napped in the bouncy chair/ on someone/ in the buggy early on. When they were a little older we took them upstairs and had a nap with them! After a couple of months I didn’t have a problem leaving the second alone upstairs. The first never napped so didn’t have that dilemma

I just used the pram carrycot for downstairs, and if we were upstairs I would be cosleeping with DD, the snuzpod only got about a week of use.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2019 09:21

You won't want to be carrying things up and downstairs.

We used the pram carrycot or he slept on us. When he got too big for the carrycot, I got a playpen where the base could be raised up like a cot, and used that for daytime sleeping/chilling out (we put a mobile over it and he liked watching that.) He also had a bouncy chair although he didn't sleep in it. DS1 used to sleep in his a lot, but DS2 wouldn't.

At some point naps transitioned to a cot. Can't remember when exactly.

I'm buying a next to me crib upstairs for the bedroom but buying a cheaper moses basket for downstairs day time. I don't want to be carrying things up and down the stairs every day so figured this would be easiest

zen1 · 14/11/2019 09:22

Moses basket downstairs, and then in the pushchair in the hall. One of mine liked to sleep on a quilt on the floor in the living room, which was very convenient as I could sleep in the sofa at the same time.

melonballer1234 · 14/11/2019 09:22

I have a moses basket downstairs. I bought it from Lidl as it wasn’t expensive for the basket and stand. Have you been to Lidl recently my local one had some in stock yesterday.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2019 09:23

The sleeping pods aren't recommended for sleeping BTW, as they are not a firm flat surface so they contravene safe sleep guidance. Babies shouldn't be sleeping on pillows. If you must use one, during the day when you're watching only, and make sure you know what positional asphyxiation is and how to spot it.

Dyra · 14/11/2019 09:23

The plan was to use the pram, or to bring down the Moses basket if the pram was a no go. The reality is she sleeps on me, since she wakes up within 5 minutes if I try putting her down anywhere else.

horse4course · 14/11/2019 09:23

You can't beat a sling for the early days.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2019 09:24

Snuzpod is OK (confusing names) it's pillows like the sleepyhead and poddlepod that are not.

RolytheRhino · 14/11/2019 09:24

ASDA do a £30 Moses basket which we used for our downstairs sleeper. It's big enough to last for about six months with an average-sized child (ours was above the 90th centile so was only in there until four months and we got a travel-cot for downstairs sleep for the last two months).

Shelby30 · 14/11/2019 09:26

We have a Moses basket for downstairs and a cocoonababy similar to sleepyhead. Snuzpod for night time.

Moses baskets aren't that expensive and we used it everyday for almost 3 months. I had a section so wouldn't have been able to lift it up and downstairs for a good while.

NutterPotter · 14/11/2019 09:27

I have a snuzpod upstairs and a moses basket downstairs was going to use the carry cot from the pram but was worried that my cats would climb in, so went for a moses basket that can be zipped up to stop cats getting in. x x

ElspethFlashman · 14/11/2019 09:27

We used a travel cot with an elevated baby section so you didn't have to bend all the way in.

But that was partly cos we had a dog at the time. And also cos we figured we'd need a travel cot at some point. And we had a big open plan area so could fit it.

The handy thing about is was that it had a changing table attachment and we could store the nappy changing stuff in it too. Ended up having random bits of baby clothes in there at all times! So it was great actually.

TheSecretJeven · 14/11/2019 09:27

I used the pram carrycot if I was downstairs and wanted to keep an eye on them. Otherwise, they were in the cot.

Proseccoinamug · 14/11/2019 09:29

As a tiny baby she slept on me in the sling. A bit older and I out here to sleep in the bedside crib in the bedroom. Once she was mobile, a mattress in the bedroom floor.

raspberryk · 14/11/2019 09:31

It doesn't really matter since they will probably only sleep on you, mine hated moses baskets and if you have a big baby they will grow out of them within weeks.
DS slept in the pram carry cot if we had been out for a walk, or on me.
DD slept in the bouncer if she was fussing as she had reflux or on a sheepskin on the floor.

LolaLollypop · 14/11/2019 09:38

My daughter rarely ever slept on me - which was great for getting her into sleep training eventually. My friend (who has 3 kids) bought me basically a giant rubber ring which she said would be a lifesaver! I've just googled the proper name - "Galt 2 in 1 reversable playnest". On one side is a comfy bed for a small baby, the other side is a play ring with toys for when baby can sit unaided.

My daughter loved being in this - she slept in this during the day as a newborn (when obvs she couldn't roll) and then loved playing in it when she was a bit older. I got loads of use out of it.

I also had the Sleepyhead which was also brilliant when you're on the move. I used to bring this with me whenever I wasn't at my own house.
