Hello 😊 this might sound odd but does anybody know if there are any smaller pregnancy vitamins than the pregnacare ones? I'm really struggling to take the pregnacare with the all day morning sickness! Thanks in advance :)

Don't know about size as it's been about a year since I last took any but the Asda's own brand ones are identical, in terms of vitamin content and loads cheaper. Poundland do a version as well.

Hi, I bought a pill crusher on Amazon. It was only a couple of pounds. I then mixed the vitamin in with some yogurt (kind of like when you are tricking a dog into taking pills :) )

I think you can get a liquid form of Pregnacare which might be easier to take than the tablets.

Cornishbumpkin · 11/11/2019 15:31

You can switch to taking just folic acid and vitamin D, if you have a good varied diet you will get all the other vitamins you need

Boymum1991 · 11/11/2019 15:53

I might have to try the liquid ones for now, thank you for all suggestions! Would normally have a good varied diet but it's quite limited atm with most things making me nauseous! 🤢

Pregnacare is a rip off, it's just a branded multivitamin preying on the insecurities of pregnant women.

It's like buying neurofen instead of ordinary ibuprofen.

It's the iron in them that can make you feel even worse in the first trimester.

Most supermarkets do an own brand one, but really it's just the folic acid you need rather than anything else and you can buy that separately and they are usually small tablets. Obviously at this time of year wouldn't do any harm to have some vit D too, but again, tiny tablets.

flissity · 11/11/2019 19:00

Lloyd’s pharmacy do a cheap pregnancy multi vitamin with everything you need. And the tablet is much smaller than pregnacare.

justchecking1 · 11/11/2019 19:27

Pastabest you shouldn't take an ordinary multivit because of the vitamin A content

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/11/2019 19:33

Pregnacare is the only prenatal based on current research. The others use NHS research and so don’t contain the vitamins and minerals shown to prevent pph / pcos / pre-eclampsia related problems. I would suggest you use liquid pregnacare until the nausea fades and then return to pregnacare max

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/11/2019 19:37

Oh and taking pregnacare with squash in the evening either before or after a meal will really help when you have nausea.

Well it's a good job that's not what I said then isn't it? I said just folic acid should be fine. Possibly vit D too.

Pregnacare used to make me feel rotten. There are several threads about it on mumsnet already. It's completely unnecessary to take it but if you do need a pregnancy specific multivitamin all the supermarkets do one far cheaper than pregnacare.

Sorry, Pasta. I misread that as you saying you could take any non branded multivitamin

Maybbabi · 12/11/2019 14:37

As the others have said, try the liquid pregnacare. I tried it for a bit when TTC, but it hurt my tummy, so I’ve instead followed the NHS guidelines and taken folic acid (for the first 12 weeks) and vitamin D. The tablets are tiny and go down really easily. As I’ve progressed in my pregnancy, I’ve also needed to take liquid iron too (+25 weeks). Have a try of the pregnacare liquid and see if it works for you, otherwise it might be worth taking the essentials in small tablet form (folic acid and vitamin D) until you’re sickness has got better.

Maybbabi · 12/11/2019 14:44

Just a caveat to my above message. Liquid Pregnacare made my tummy hurt so I can’t recommend it from personal experience, just that it’s available and worth a try. Otherwise the supermarkets do their own prenatal multivitamins that you could try. I guess the main advice from the NHS is to take folic acid and vitamin D. As long as you’re getting those every day, you should be fine. I’ve not bothered with a prenatal multivitamin, but I can understand that it’s really important for lots of women. Smile

I don’t know if this has been mentioned already but Pregnacare also comes in liquid. I can’t swallow large (or any really!) tablets so couldn’t take them at all, the liquid was a god send. Hope that helps!

I hated the stinky horse pills! Got folic acid+vit d combined from Holland and Barratt. Think it was about £3 for 60 (one a day).
