Reduced movements

Second thread today..

I'm 24 weeks and have been feeling regular movements for around 10 days now. Late kicker as my placenta is anterior.

They've been strong and she has kicked hard enough to be seen on a few occasions too.

But today, nothing.

I have a stethoscope from studying a couple years ago and I do hear a strong heartbeat but not felt anything else.

Any advice, is this normal?

Any change from what is normal for your baby and I would call your midwife to get checked out. Probably fine but it's best to get seen.

And please don't use a home doppler or stethoscope. Get professional advice

SparkleUK · 30/10/2019 20:02

I'm 24 weeks and had the same today. My placenta is at the back so I've been feeling lots and he's seemed really active but today didn't seem as much.
I wrestled with feeling like I was wasting time but I've just got in from being checked and he's too precious to not check so definitely would recommend getting checked for piece of mind.
Little monkey decided he'd be quiet for us then massively boot the doppler whilst she was checking!
Agree with the above too, home dopplers etc don't guarantee baby is okay so always best to be safe. Good thoughts your way

KHall84 · 30/10/2019 20:27

I had thos issue with my first as my placenta was also in same position and I went about 5 times through pregnancy to be checked out but all was fine definitely worth getting checked out just to be on safe side xx

Turt · 30/10/2019 20:39

@bob1985 @SparkleUK @KHall84 I just had a couple of cupcakes as I heard sugar can help.. she responded with 3 kicks Blush

Should I monitor for a bit tonight since I have felt something?

Cold drinks like full fat coke and lying on left side also work xx

bob1985 · 30/10/2019 20:42

@Turt best to call your midwife/assessment unit. They will give you the best guidance/advice

Turt · 30/10/2019 20:47

@bob1985 they said monitor over the next 45 minutes and if no move movements then call back and they'll arrange for me to come down to check

bob1985 · 30/10/2019 20:50

@Turt glad you called them. Like I said probably all fine but always best to get the professionals thoughts and to get checked if you are unsure

Pandainmyporridge · 30/10/2019 21:02

It's not just NO movements I think it's a change in the pattern you expect. So a few movements doesn't mean you don't need to be checked out.

SparkleUK · 30/10/2019 21:07

Glad you called them!

Yes, always best to get anything different changed. They said to me mine may have been because I hadn't eaten enough but it could also be down to not drinking/eating enough.

Have a snack, lie on your left and have a drink too and see if that helps your little one get moving

Turt · 30/10/2019 22:42

@Pandainmyporridge and this is exactly why I didn't want to call and be a nuisance

OP posts:
Pandainmyporridge · 30/10/2019 22:44

I don't understand what you mean?

Turt · 30/10/2019 22:44

I am at the labour ward now as advised due to no movements in the time they told me to time and count movements. Even with a 5 minute brisk walk from my car to the ward there was no movement.

Turt · 30/10/2019 22:46

@Pandainmyporridge I felt the 3 kicks after the cupcake so I feel like a nuisance being here now but I am following their advice

Moomin8 · 30/10/2019 22:47

My hospital staff have told me they'd rather see me 100 times abs nothing was wrong than to not go one time and something was.

Pandainmyporridge · 30/10/2019 22:48

Och being a nuisance is fine Smile You are advocating for your baby. And after 24 weeks there's a bit more they can do, if necessary, as the pg is potentially viable.
I think I went about 5 times with reduced movements in my last pg, if that makes you feel better! All was well in the end.

Turt · 30/10/2019 22:49

Thank you both, you are so lovely replying this late at night giving me some reassurance!

You've done the right thing being seen. Exactly the same thing happened to me tat 39 weeks. Turns out baby was fine and I was having contractions I couldn't feel - but that's a whole other story!

smegsmeg · 30/10/2019 23:01

Always better to check OP. I had reduced movements at 32 weeks and it turned out to be ambilical cord wrapped round my DDs neck. They don't see you as a hassle at all just if you ever have doubts get it checked! Glad you're feeling movements now and congrats on the pregnancy! Grin

Turt · 30/10/2019 23:43

Thankfully she's all fine, they found her heartbeat! My heart rate didn't settle below 105bpm so they did an ECG to make sure I am ok too Smile

OP posts:
Turt · 30/10/2019 23:43

@smegsmeg thank you so much! Thanks

OP posts:
bob1985 · 31/10/2019 03:42

@Turt glad you've been seen.

They would rather see you 1000 times than miss something.

As the poster said above reduced movement can be sign of trouble with the cord, placenta etc. So always get checked if you're not happy with the movements.

Turt · 01/11/2019 12:47

Into panic mode again.. barely felt anything since I went in to see them. It's weird as I had a full week of strong visible kicks and now they've disappeared.

OP posts:
KHall84 · 01/11/2019 13:56

Are they monitoring you still ? Xx

Turt · 01/11/2019 21:35

@KHall84 no they said just keep an eye but have made a point that I'm still early and my placenta is anterior x
