Baby wipes?!

Just wondering..
I need to get some more nappies and wipes in ready for when little one arrives. What brand wipes did people use on their newborns?
I was going to get water wipes but they're quite pricey! Any suggestions?!?

Ahhh yes that reminded me. I used water wipes for pooh when baby got a big better and cotton wool wipes from asda for wee and breastfed pooh. They sell big oval ones which are used for make up I believe, don't leave left over cotton bits and nice and big for babies bums. I had a bowl of warm water that I would dip them

Tesco do packs of 60-80 for under 60p. You can also get a free pack of wipes from the Asda Bounty pack.

Cotton wool and water at home/hospital. Watetwipes our and about.

OP I would buy one pack of each and see which you like them bulk buy from Amazon or similar.

Big pack of water wipes from amazon. Work out 2 quid a packet.
That's not cheap though, it an absolute bloody fortune for something that you throw away!

Another recommendation for washable wipes. We've used cheeky wipes for our first and will be reusing them for our second who's due next month. Not only are they better for the environment but they're actually better at cleaning up giant baby poo explosions.

We've just bought cheeky wipes using the birthday11 code, stil felt like quite a lot to shell out but it will be lots cheaper than disposables in the long run. I'm sure you could probably just make your own for a fraction of the price, but I'm at that stage in my pregnancy where I can't he arsed to do anything let alone cut up dozens of squares of terry cloth, plus I've heard really good things about cheeky wipes.

Also with reusable wipes you really just need the wipes - not the fancy boxes or oils. We keep a pot of water and wet them as we go, very rarely need more than one even for a poo. I put them in the nappy bin but I guess you can use any container for dirty ones.

Beanbag agreed! I'm horrified by the the number of disposable wipes that get used for one change. Reusable all the way. They are brilliant!

@Beanbag7 took me ages to use them as I used cotton wool pads 75p a packet which used to last me 4 days. I didnt want to use reusables.. My choice

75p every 4 days for cotton wool is not cheap either!

Whatever. After 6 months it gets better. I'm not going to cry over 20p a day.

Another vote for cheeky wipes. They also have fantastic customer service - I ordered a complete kit on Friday afternoon and then received an email about 3 hours later with the birthday code (already a customer of theirs so on the mailing list). I contacted them to ask about it and they've honoured it for me - not many places would do that! 👍

I feel if you're using cotton wool you may as well be using water based wipes in a way as it's not recyclable and you shouldn't be flushing it.

I will definitely be going cheeky wipes this time, just DH arm has to be twisted as he rather buy the boxes of wipes.

I don't remember op asking for suggestions that were recyclable. Yes I may appear rude, but am answering the op and just because I don't use reusable wipes it doesn't make me a bad person. You know nothing about my lifestyle or carbon footprint. I'm not stupid enough to flush cotton wool or wipes down the toilet BTW.

Oh and I used cotton wool and water as water wipes are more expensive and it was better for my baby's bum, I never claimed there was any environmental issues affecting my decision

@aliensprig I assume that you are in candlelight at night and you are all running around with leaves on you as clothes, yes? I really don't need to defend my choices, the op was not asking for recyclable options and there's no need for other posters to comment on other people's choices when they're supposed to be advising the op. But, this is mumsnet after all.

DS1 was strictly a pampers boy, mainly because I thought if he came into contact with anything non-premium he may dissolve. DS2 has used Aldi nappies and wipes since day one without any issues.

@MissPepper8 no I calculated that waterwipes are a lot more expensive than cotton wool. So your point was unhelpful. I also explained my reason for using cotton wool was because water an d cotton wool are gentler on babys bum.
