Not really the blues, but missing the excitement and magic of pregnancy first time round. Anyone else feel like that when pregnant for second time? This time round it seems to be more of a hinderence than first time - mainly because I'm running round after a toddler.

I was 38 when I had ds, and would rather like another if poss when I'm 40. I too wish I was younger sometimes and worry that ds won't think I'm a pretty mummy! Still, I'm having botox on Thursday and getting my hair done so... and he certainly seems to love me. Anyway, i suspect by the time our kids start school the school gates will be surrounded by us geriatric mums so nobody will be able to spot the difference. I'm in SE London too, so maybe it's a late fertility hotspot.

Enid · 25/11/2002 10:31

Ooh, aloha, are you really having botox? Please start another thread and tell us how it went as I go through phases of being sorely tempted...

Jodiesmum · 26/11/2002 08:24

Hi Aloha, lovely to meet another old mum in my neck of the woods and yes, there are loads of us about. Average age at St Faith's NCT sale must be well over 40 if you ask me. I had dd at 38 and am now expecting number two in early June, conceived on my 40th birthday! So no botox for me right now and in fact no fun of any kind, not even a cappucino as I'm feeling too sick. I don't know about you but I felt very pressurised to get on with it with my 40th birthday looming and was starting to panic a bit that it wouldn't happen. But now it has I'm panicking about that too. Oh well. Good luck with your plans and see you in the park / Blue Mountain no doubt.

CAM · 02/12/2002 10:48

Dear lulu, jodiesmum, how great that you are having babies at 40! I had dd2 at that age and yes, she is in year 1 now and yes, I am 46. Don't worry about it you will love it, having another young one around keeps you young. I wish you all the joy that I have with my little sweetie.

jemw · 02/12/2002 13:33

jodiesmum - how do you get your buggy into blue mountain cafe?? I went last week for the first time in ages and the staff just looked at me when I tried to negotiate the corners so ended up leaving and returning to mon petit chou for my coffee fix.....much more friendly

champs · 20/12/2002 20:41

Hi everyone. I am 24 and expecting (did I just use that phrase? hee hee) my 2nd child. just found out although suspected as breasts hurt like mad and sick as parrot!!! I am worried about my weight, I am very overweight and have been dieting. I had wanted to loose some weight b4 having baby as when I had my first doctors never failed to give me "advice" of risks, how overweight I was (as if ididn't know!!!) etc. etc. and this time round I'm even bigger than I was then. aaarrggg!!! any advice? and also pls help with the abbreviations i am knew here and keep seeing dd ds dh and such %)

champs · 20/12/2002 20:42

new I mean

clary · 23/12/2002 09:53

Hello and welcome Champs; the advice is always not to diet while pregnant and I do think that's right, ie no crash dieting, but it doesn't mean you can't think about and watch what you eat. I should be an expert as I lost weight during my first and actually went down two dress sizes (so I can sympathise with Posh who got a lot of flak for a similar thing). Not sure how I did it mind...but of course if you cut out alcohol it's a good start. I also gave up coffee and tea which I'm sure are just not good for you (went off them anyway) and drank lots of water. Otherwise, just eat lots of fruit and veg, lay off the crisps and chocolate crap, and really think about whether you are hungry or not. Don't finish your meal if you are full - give it to DH instead! By the way DH = dear husband, DP dear partner DS dear son, DD dear daughter, HTH = hope this helps, IYKWIM = if you know what I mean. HTH you, ho ho.

Hi SE London mums! Yes, had the Botox and it was all fine. frown lines gone and eyebrows slightly raised too (though not like Anne Robinson I hasten to add!) and no lines on forehead. Nobody has noticed I've had it done, either, which is good. It's expensive though - around £200. And it can last as short a time as 3months (though last time I had it done it was nearer 6. Mind you, at least it works, which is more than you can say for wrinkle cream! Being more Peckham/Camberwell than E Dulwich I go to Petitou for coffee - bit smokey sometimes but nice coffee and v friendly and casual. Plenty of buggy room etc. Always glad to hear of 40plus mums - I'm turning that corner in July but would still like another baby. Better get a move on, I suppose!

Re dieting in pregnancy - no crash diets but you can & should eat a healthy diet. You can cut out cakes, biscuits, sweets, jam etc no problem, also cut down on butter, processed food, bake or grill instead of fry, eat more vegetables and fruit and fish etc. You don't need any extra calories at all until the last three months and then hardly anything. Your metabolism slows right down in p/g which is why you don't need to eat more ( ) and I feel as if mine has never revved up again either, which is depressing. One of the reasons I've delayed trying again is that I'd like to be my old size again before I balloon again! Can't face adding another stone and a half to my already inflated frame... Still, at least I've got no wrinkles, and the grey hairs are getting nuked in the New Year with a hail of highlights...

slug · 23/12/2002 12:36

Congratulations Champs. I too am a larger woman (oh let's be honest here, a size 18-20). I achieved the impressive feat of losing 2 and a half stone during the first three months of my pregnancy due to vile morning, afternoon, all night sickness. I found that later on I just couldn't eat too much as my stomach was being cramped by the baby, it just hurt to eat.

I think pregnancy is an excellent time to change bad habits. You have an incentive. I mean you would try to give up or cut down on smoking if that's your poison, so why not try and cut down on the chocolate now. Good luck.

chiarasmom · 23/12/2002 17:45

Aloha, did the botox hurt? also, I am curious when you would like to have another baby? Is your dh or dp eager to have another quickly? I also really don't want to get pregnant just yet, partially due to the fact that I would like to lose 10 pounds post-baby weight before I get pregnant again. I heard that it is extremely difficult to lose any extra post-pregnancy weight if you get pregnant too soon after.

bossykate · 23/12/2002 19:33

hi aloha, i am determined to treat myself to botox with the proceeds of quitting smoking in the new year - now would i need it if i didn't smoke?! sorry, i think you posted this to me before, but i would really appreciate it if you would please let me know where you get it done.

glad you are pleased with the results! i live in hope!

btw - fellow trash tv watchers - has anyone seen hermione norris in "wire in the blood"? she is considerably less wrinkly than in the last series of cold feet... surely, she's got to have had it? does anyone know what i'm talking about?!

thanks again, aloha.

clucks · 24/12/2002 00:06

I think Hermione has had loads done. DH finds her very sexy regardless, I think it's the voice myself.

May I dare to suggest that people pay attention to their teeth as well as wrinkles, a bit of bleaching and a few veneers can change your whole face and take years off you. Something people have been very slow on the uptake of in this country and I'm afraid it shows. Scandanavians/Italians etc. put us to shame.

My gnashers are lovely, it's the hair (will do it after the birth), the fat (gave up on that one), and the mental instability that are my current problems. Good luck all.

bossykate · 24/12/2002 06:42

clucks, i'm going to do teeth bleaching as well...

champs · 28/12/2002 17:02

Thanks Clary, that helps alot!!! aloha, also thanx for ur advice too. Slug, if only that could happen to me that would be cool. I keep telling myself to be sensible but it's so tempting to carry on dieting (not eating) but i am so pleased to be havin this baby smiles I am soooo tired, I forgot how tiring p/g (think i got that right lol) can be!! and sick--- aarrrgg. Is it really shallow of me to want a girl? Been praying even b4 was p/g that next baby would be a girl lol. have to be careful wiv my DS as he keeps askin me dont I like boys!!! I reasure him that I do. He says he wants a sister, two infact lol. I haven't told him I'm p/g as he would tell everyone and we aren't tellin anyone till scan. How long is that? is it 12wks? or 16? Anyway, will stop chattin on now. lol.
