Loss of symptoms at 8 weeks pregnant

Hi, I think I'm just looking for some reassurance as my midwife has given me none.

I'm now 9 weeks pregnant but last week, literally overnight, I lost all of my pregnancy symptoms - sore breasts, frequent urination, feeling queasy, constipation, cervical fluid. I thought they would come back but they haven't and it's been almost a week. I'm worried sick. My midwife said unless there is bleeding, she won't refer me for a scan.

I'm 27, normal BMI, had an internal scan at 7+2 weeks and saw baby's heartbeat. Am I worrying for nothing? Has this happened to anyone before? What would you do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated xxx

I am worrying about a missed miscarriage too. I had a scan at 7 weeks and everything was fine. I'm ten weeks now and my symptoms have disappeared aswell. I did a pregnancy test this morning and the line was strong before it got half way along. Does anyone know if you can miscarry but keep producing the hormone?

ejmay90 · 14/10/2019 18:04

@BecauseItIz
You can still produce the hormone for a few weeks after. I had a miscarriage in june and they told me to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after to make sure it was negative. I honestly wouldn't rely on tests.
I had a scan at 8 weeks and havent had many symptoms at all the past 3 weeks and I had a scan a week ago at was measuring at 11 weeks just fine. Please try not to worry xx

LH1987 · 14/10/2019 18:10

@ejmay90, would you mind sharing the name of the clinic you are using for your scans? I'm also in Reading and this sounds like something I would love to use!

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 18:19

Sorry for jumping on your thread op. It's such a worrying time.

@ejmay90 Thank you for the reply. Sorry to hear about your loss, it's so difficult. I have had 2 early miscarriages and my first dd died when 15 days old. That's really reassuring you had a positive scan after having no symptoms for weeks. Thank you again and wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy x

Terriergrrrrrrrr · 14/10/2019 18:20

My symptoms stopped at 9wks and I worried myself sick about possible missed miscarriage. Baby recently turned 18 so all was well. From chatting to friends over the years it seem symptoms stopping is not unusual and is not always a cause for alarm. Could you do another pregnancy test this evening to set your mind at ease? That's what the midwife advised me to do when I was panicking. All the best to you.

RolytheRhino · 14/10/2019 18:23

Ah, the first trimester really sucks. Constantly worried and feeling pants but no sympathy from anyone because you're not far enough along yet to tell them. Honestly, don't worry- it is totally normal. That's the thing with pregnancy- the whole way along there are symptoms that 999 times out of 1000 are fine and normal but you'll always worry about that one. My sympathies.

ejmay90 · 14/10/2019 18:37

@LH1987 oh really?? That's mad!
I used window to the womb on Northumberland Avenue in Whitley. Lovely ladies there and felt so at ease! Are you looking at having an early scan? X

ejmay90 · 14/10/2019 18:39

@BecauseItIz thank you and I'm so sorry to hear about your losses! That must have been so hard for you :(
I hope you dont mind me asking how your baby died at 15 days old?
It can happen, keep faith!
Thank you, wishing you also a healthy happy pregnancy! X

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 19:17

@ejaymay90 No, not at all will probably out myself but it's fine. She was born absolutely perfect, beautiful dark hair with gold highlights. Boxing day I noticed she had slept through a feed so went to wake her and from the neck down she had a horrible dark rash and was a bit floppy. In total we were in three hospitals, they didn't know what was wrong suspected septiceimia but later found out it was group b streptococuss and that I had given it to her. We all carry it harmlessly to us most people in their intestines but some woman carry it in their vaginal canal and it's fatal to babies. About 100 babies die a year from it. They won't test for it here but do in many other countries. I had never heard of it before. Sorry, that was really long!!

whatdayisit7 · 14/10/2019 19:45

@danielasummer I'd had a scan at 6 weeks and all was good, heartbeat etc. I had another scan at 9 weeks after I felt my symptoms stopped and it was confirmed that it had stopped growing at 8+1.

ejmay90 · 14/10/2019 19:50

@Becauseltlz I'm so sorry to hear that and must have been awful. It's good to share these stories so others are aware of the signs and symptoms so thank you.
I do know I have strep b in the vaginal canal and have been told I will have an injection during labour. I honestly didnt know it was fatal though. I am sorry for your loss and hope yous sharing your story can help at least one family x

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 20:17

What happened with my second and third was I got induced at 38weeks. Given iv antibiotics for 4hours in labour and then after the birth me and baby stay in hospital for 7 days and baby gets a cannula and given antibiotics every 12hours for the full 7 days. I will have the same experience with this little bean if we make it that far! They don't even test me for it. It can come and go so it's not reliable. Your situation concerns me but maybe as my dd died it's different treatment. Please be vigilant signs and symptoms can appear usually between 0 and 3months. I wrote to my mp and have signed petitions. It's more common than cerebral palsy and ruebella but they test for those. It's really sad and preventable!

It was in the newspaper just because we wanted to raise awareness. My dm used to go up to pregnant women informing them about the test. Thank you for your kind words! x

ejmay90 · 14/10/2019 21:10

@becauseltlz ohh really! That's interesting and seems a lot more than what I'm offered. My midwife told me that it's just something given to me during labour nothing else. I may bring this up with her when I next see her. Maybe if they know about it and catch it before the birth its different treatment?
Its worrying me now.
Glad you've told me about the signs and symptoms as it's good to know these things.
Can I ask why my situation concerns you? Should I be getting more treatment do you think?
It is sad they dont test for it but I had a routine test last year and had to be made aware of it x

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 21:59

Sorry I didn't mean to worry you. It's just that I would create all hell if they were only giving me an injection. Group b strep kills 100 babies a year. Your baby will probably be fine but it seems risky to me. I never asked for the treatment me and baby get it's just always been what happens at 38 weeks and then the first 7 days. For ds1 and dd2 and now this little one. It's not a recent thing either. Ds1 just turned 13 and dd2 is 15months.

I'm sure they will look for signs but the thing is baby can appear perfectly healthy right up to the day before they die. It can come on that quick. I'm sorry to scare you but it is scary! However I'm sure the midwifes know what their doing x

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 22:07

My dd was born at 38 weeks which is why I get induced at 38 weeks with the others so they can defo get the bag of antibiotics into me while I'm labour.

I actually feel awful worrying you. My situation is obviously worst case scenario. Try not to worry.

BecauseItIz · 14/10/2019 22:29

Oh and if it was last year you had the test there's a very good chance you won't be carrying it now. I paid for the test privately when I was 36 weeks with d's and it was negative. It can come and go. x

Keha · 14/10/2019 22:44

My morning sickness went away pretty quickly around 9/10 weeks and didn't come back. I was a bit concerned at the time but now just feel quite fortunate I didn't have to suffer for very long. Now 20 weeks and things okay at the moment so may be very normal and nothing to worry about. Hope you can feel a bit better about it

didslysquiddlydoo · 14/10/2019 22:57

My symptoms completely disappeared overnight around the same time - unfortunately for me it was confirmed I'd had a missed miscarriage.

I don't know if that's what you wanted to hear, but when I was worried and stressing I had a lot of people tell me it'll be fine, stop being a worry wart, you've had a scan and all was perfect - for me, although it was bad news, I'm so glad I went for that early scan and found out one way or another.

I really hope it works out more positively for you but I think the early scan does help one way or another - if it's positive, it should show you that symptoms come and go and help to alleviate that worry. I personally would book one if you're really worrying about it.

Good luck xx

ejmay90 · 15/10/2019 10:00

@BecauseItIz don't be sorry, it hasn't worried me as such but i will ask my midwife when i see her next.
I guess everyone is different so hard to compare but i'm glad you have made me aware of it.
I wasn't sure if it's something that comes and goes? if you have strep b dont you just have it? or is it like the HPV virus, you have it but unless you have a cold sore or herpes it's dormant?
Where did you pay for the test? not sue if it's worth doing that later on.

danielasummer · 15/10/2019 10:40

@ejmay90 thank you. I've woken up this morning feeling a little better; did some light exercise and trying to keep busy. I guess I will find out at my 12 week scan which is only 23 days away (not that I'm counting - clearly!) Just clinging onto those stories where women have gone onto have healthy babies when their symptoms stopped. x

@BecauseItIz I'm not sure about hormones but it sounds as though we are in the same boat. I won't do a pregnancy test though as I'll only worry if it's negative, then I'll only worry that the positive is false if that makes sense (I'm a massive worrier!) I'm so sorry to hear about your losses x

@Terriergrrrrrrrr It makes me feel much better hearing your story. I've honestly worried myself sick over this. Every waking thought is 'when will my symptoms come back, what if something has happened to the baby' and I'm so nervous that my scan will show a missed miscarriage. Knowing that it has happened to other people who have gone on to have healthy babies makes me feel more positive so thank you x

@RolytheRhino It does totally suck! I've wanted to be pregnant for so long but now it's here I feel like I'm in constant fear. Trying to cling onto the positive stories but just so worrying that I feel so normal now. x

@whatdayisit7 I'm so sorry to hear that, it must have been awful. This is what I'm fearing x

@Keha thank you for sharing - the positive stories are making me feel a little better. It's so hard to get into the mindset of 'everything will be ok' when there is a chance it won't. Trying to keep myself busy x

@didslysquiddlydoo thank you for sharing and I'm so sorry to hear that. It's really hard when you can't make people understand your worry because they are just trying to think positive. I won't go for a private scan because my husband is convinced everything is fine and that it will just feed my anxiety. I'm in two minds but thinking I will just have to sit tight until the 12 week scan as there is nothing I can do if it's the worst x

Just back from docs, they gave me antibiotics. Feeling awful with head cold and chest infection. @Daniela Thank you. Glad you're feeling a bit better. I'm counting the days until my scan too, 16 for me. Yes, there does seem to be just as many positive stories which is good. You're right about keeping busy it's all we can do really x

BecauseItIz · 15/10/2019 14:07

@ejmay I think that's why they don't test for it as it's not cost effective as it can show up and then not. It's great your midwife knows so I wouldn't bother with the test as you're getting some treatment anyway. I'm in Scotland I don't know if that makes a difference. In a lot of forums I've seen people saying that they have it and are only getting treatment in labour so I'm sure it will be fine x

ejmay90 · 15/10/2019 14:12

@Becauseltlz yea i've heard they don't test for it, but i'm glad i know about it before i do go into labour.
I'm going to just ask a few more questions when i see the midwife to make sure i'm happy with it. Odd really as she was pushing me for a home birth even with knowing about the strep b.
Yea i have read a lot about people just getting treatment during labour.
Thank you for sharing your story and your advice though, it's good to know these things! xx

ejmay90 · 15/10/2019 14:14

@danielasummer i'm glad your feeling better today. Try not to count down as that will make the next 23 days go very slow!
If you feel you want a private scan to keep your mind at ease then there is no harm in it. I thought i would want to be there every week after the previous miscarriage but it showed me these things can happen so i felt more relaxed xx

danielasummer · 15/10/2019 17:40

@BecauseItIz have your symptoms started up again? Fingers crossed they have. Mine haven't :( I've kept really busy today and keep saying over and over, 'what will be will be, an early scan won't change anything' which makes me feel a little better. The 7th can't come quick enough. Are you feeling any better with your cold and chest infection? Hope the meds kick in soon. x

@ejmay90 My husband really doesn't want me to so I'll follow his wishes. He wants me to relax and be a little more 'zen' which is bloody hard! Still no symptoms for me today. Tried to keep really busy today which has helped. How are you feeling? x
