Good evening ladies, I am so excited to join this community, I have been following a few peoples threads and you all seem so supportive!

I need some advice, if any of you can help?
basically I am due on toyda, no af as of yet, had some slight cramping but no sign of any bleeding. last night I took a cheap pregnancy test, which came up with some sort of line, but unsure if positive. This morning I took a clear blue which says it detects pregnancy 6 days before you are due, that was negative, also took a First response today during the day which was negative. but then took another cheap test which showed a faint faint line. so now I am very confused, does anyone have any similar stories? im worried the lines might be evaporation lines?

Clearly positive on your most recent test, OP, congratulations.

Hopefullmamaxx · 14/10/2019 11:38

@RolytheRhinoi thought that too but this morning I could hardly see one so now I’m confused! I’m booking into the doctors today I think x

@Nhaide01 clear blue arnt very sensitive hun and their not reliable at all so I wouldn’t go by that. Get a first response x

What you've got to focus on is if you can see a line then it's positive. Different tests may have different concentrations of the dye etc in them so try not to compare tests.

Nhaide01 · 14/10/2019 11:55

I have an appointment with my gp today at 4
I am nervous wreck 😥

Hopefullmamaxx · 14/10/2019 12:17

Iv been booked into the early birds clinic for a scan and blood which will hopefully tell me whether I am or not. Will keep you updated! Done a FRER and can hardly see anything now which is so strange because I still haven’t bled!

Hi ladies its the OP here. just updating you all on my situation. So today I went for an ultrasound as I was having pains and I told my doctor I was getting faint positives so I was a bit concerned. The results of the scan showed nothing, but they said if I was pregnant I would only be 5 weeks so they wouldn't see anything anyway. so they went on to do bloods and they said my HCG level was below 4 which meant I wasn't pregnant. so now I am a little confused about the faint lines as Im still getting them now, I am convinced iv had either a chemical pregnancy (but I still haven't bled), or the bloods are wrong. as upon research I have found multiple women that have had negative ultrasounds and negative bloods and have actually been pregnant the whole time it was just too early to tell... may I just add, I still haven't bled and am now 7 days late. anyone else had any similar stories? im now in limbo for ANOTHER week because I was told by the nurse to take another test in a week if AF still hasn't arrived!

Thanks ladies!

and also just to add, the lady said that she can see my egg has been released..but she didn't go on to say much else after this other than she can see my uterus has a thick wall which is 'good'..but that's left me even more confused!

Hi @Hopefullmamaxx I think it sounds like you've recently ovulated, hence the delayed period. An ultrasound will not show a pregnancy sac until over 1000hcg. I think the tests are faulty (and I struggled to see the lines).

Hopefully you caught your ovulation and are still in with a chance, but I don't think you're currently pregnant based on your bloods. Good luck.

VenusStarr · 16/10/2019 10:22

Sorry @Hopefullmamaxx got your test confused with another poster using the frer. If you used a freedom test from asda, those always have lines, so not reliable in my opinion.

RolytheRhino · 16/10/2019 10:26

How old are you, OP? The early stages of menopause can cause a false positive, as can a few other medical conditions, but in this case hopefully you've just ovulated late as PP said.

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 10:33

I’m 21, no menopause here haha!

And as for the tests I’m using Asda brand it’s not called freedom. But before im I used another cheap grand and got the same result. In regards to ovulating late I thought the same thing... but I’m way over my period due date, Iv got the most sore nipples ever and Iv got major cramps going on in my pelvis region.. and this morning I got a faint line again! #confused

Medications that can lower the amount of hCG in your blood include:

Promethazine (used as an antihistamine in combination cough and cold products to treat allergy symptoms and to treat nausea or vomiting from illness or motion sickness)

Using any antihistamines at the moment?

VenusStarr · 16/10/2019 10:39

First response early response are the most sensitive tests on the market. If your blood test hcg was 4 yesterday, then a frer would show a faint positive tomorrow I would think.

It's really difficult but you can drive yourself crazy testing. Wait a week and you should have a strong positive if you are pregnant.

Did you recently stop hormonal contraception, as that can impact on cycle regularity? But I do think you recently ovulated and it was delayed for some reason and you're in your tww now.

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 10:43

Thank you both for your replies, I’m not on any medication and I haven’t been on contraception for over 3 years so it wouldn’t be that! I’m past crazy now haha, I just feel like I know my body and I know that there’s a high chance I am (I was pregnant before and felt exactly the same symptoms as this). But your right I’ll wait a week and wait and see. I need to stop googling haha!

If it helps, I went for an early scan at 6 weeks +2 days (definitely pregnant, scan for other reasons) and they could see nothing at all on the tummy ultrasound so they had to do an internal scan with a wand which was how they managed to see the sac. Ds is now 5.

Low levels in blood though does indicate a chemical pregnancy unfortunately. If you don't have a period within the next few days I'd go back to gp and ask for a repeat blood test with the nurse to see if your levels have increased or reduced.

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 11:08

@Nogodsnomasters thank you for your reply, they done an internal and couldn’t see much, but the women was actually training which didn’t help!!! But yes I’m planning to go back for more bloods in a week if I havent come on. I’m now 8 days late and have a lot of symptoms.. but Iv read up ALOT of women’s stories who have been in this exact boat as me! Negative ultrasounds and negative bloods but it was just way to early. Last night I also had some weird light brown / light pink watery mucusy discharge? Not sure if anyone’s had that? But still no AF. X

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 16/10/2019 11:14

Op yes I had plenty of discharge and mucous in pregnancy but none pink, but that's just me, many women have pink or even red spotting and are still pregnant, my sil and friend being two of them, both with healthy kids.

Have you ever been this late before? Do you normally have unpredictable periods?

I'd say if you had an internal scan also that picked up no sac then you are very likely to be not pregnant, sorry.

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 11:16

Well to be honest id only be 4 weeks. And they said that it’s normal to not see anything at that stage anyway.. so I’m not sure. I’m still keeping faith as like I said, I know my body.

And with regards to mucus, Iv never has this before, and i haven’t been this late before no. Time will tell I supose, I hate this wait! X

betternamepending · 16/10/2019 11:26

Well if you know that you have irregular periods then you might just not be "late". Maybe just try to wait a little longer before testing again

SunshineAngel · 16/10/2019 11:35

Hey :) sorry that it is so confusing for you at the moment. Just to say that I went through similar last year. I ended up 10 days late, having never been more than 2 days late in my whole life! I took multiple tests, and it was freaking me and my partner out a lot! But my period eventually appeared very late. I did see my GP as I was getting worried towards the end, and she said it could be because I had been really ill with strep throat and had been taking antibiotics around ovulation. So my whole lifestyle, diet, exercise regime was different, not to mention the antibiotics, all of which can have an effect.

Is there anything you can think of that might be making you late? The stress won't be helping now, of course!

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 11:56

Thanks ladies, I have a feeling it may be due to stress but still can’t work out why I’m getting symptoms and faint positives! It’s driving me insane! Only thing I can do is wait a week and see if I come on x

Babyg1995 · 16/10/2019 12:04

I always use boots digital have me a positive one day after period was due I had used other non digital tests and kept getting evap lines best way to know for sure is after your missed period with a digital hope you get your positive soon op.

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 14:27

I tried the clear blue digital but I got ‘not pregnant’ but then looked online and apparently their not very sensitive? What’s the sensitivity of the boots ones? And thank you, I’m hoping so! No sign of AF as of yet. Just so frustrating now. When I was pregnant before I didn’t know until I was 9 weeks +. Very frustrating x

Hopefullmamaxx · 16/10/2019 18:24

hey ladies OP here. so I thought id update you all, many people thought I may be ovulating late so I went and brought some ovulation tests which were very faint which indicates im not ovulating.. also took a preg test which is negative (im sure I see something but may just be my head). so I can rule obulation out, as I said above, will just have to fight the urg and wait a week! (which probley wont happen but hey hoe!), will keep you all updated and any similar stories would be appreciated! x

OP.

@Hopefullmamaxx the scan confirmed you've ovulated, so your opks won't be positive now. They are positive in the days leading up to egg release, usually between 12-36 hours before you ovulate. So taking one after ovulation doesn't mean anything.

Try and wait a week, hopefully if you've been regularly having unprotected sex then you'll get a positive next in the next couple of weeks.
