Ladies, what do you wish you knew about childbirth first time round that you know now?

tiredmoma · 05/10/2019 21:53

That what liquids go in and out are measured! Weeing into a pot while in labour isn't easy!!
Before birth it is very common to be constipated (and yes with all that pushing it isnt going to stay there!)
I cant really remember what else as im really into all things pregnancy and childbirth related so was well researched 🤣

I’m 37, with a 3 year old. 2nd baby will be a Christmas surprise. Keep remembering how hard it was last time round - colic, norovirus etc -must be bonkers to be doing it again!

MissPepper8 · 05/10/2019 23:08

Weeing into a pot while in labour isn't easy!!

This lol... On a stool.. I had 4 bags of fluid when I was induced and I was peeing constantly and at one point the fresh eyes mw walked in.. My mw opened the main door to ward (curtains open) and someone was walking past to me straining on a pot on a stool. I gave up there 😂

If induced by a drip, it's nothing like a natural contraction.. Waters when they go aren't a massive pop of water like in the movies.

It's not exactly childbirth but the after math, and that was I was petrified to go number 2 afterwards lol.. I had iron tablets as well but I won't forget that experience.

tiredmoma · 06/10/2019 07:11

The waters no it deffo isnt a big pop i had mine broken and it was the strangest feeling afterwards as every time i moved a tiny bit they gushed out

afterwards as every time i moved a tiny bit they gushed out

My hind waters went on their own but front ones had to be popped and this, I felt like I was weeing myself without knowing. Labour isn't dignified at all lol..

tiredmoma · 06/10/2019 22:17

@MissPepper8 totally! I was laying there thinking to myself am i weeing myself or is it my waters?!

PetaO · 07/10/2019 22:10

I'm exhausted. So much more so than last pregnancy. We've just started listening to our online hypnobirthing course tonight which was very interesting....
Also, the baby hasn't stopped moving for about 2 days...not helping the tiredness!

MissPepper8 · 07/10/2019 22:32

@tiredmoma How many weeks exactly are you now hun? Ms in first weeks is really hard going. I'm 16 weeks have hyperemesis really bad, lost alot of weight. Only things that help now is sick medication but I avoided it in first tri and tried ginger tea, travel sickness bands and eating biscuits or crackers.

Doesn't work anymore though, I vomit up everything and I'm sat here feeling nauseous. Gp has given ondansetron but I'm really frightened of risks.

tiredmoma · 07/10/2019 23:57

@PetaO how many weeks are you? Its wonderful when baby starts to move but as you say very tiring!!

@MissPepper8 im not too sure as i thought i would have been 7+5 but i had a scan last week and

tiredmoma · 07/10/2019 23:59

@MissPepper8 im not as far on as that so ive to go back next week but atm i think im 5 nearly 6 weeks i have figured that if i drink plenty and often being sick is ALOT easier! Ohhh poor you!!! Im sure you feel awful with the sickness and im sure it tires you out so much! Have you much family support and help?

Sorry hit send by mistake!!

@tiredmoma I remember now hun x Sickness is a good sign you've got lots of hormones but often quite draining. I had it with DS up until he came out lol.. DH is working from home but just got a new job that will only be a day from home so I am dreading that with a 2 year old. I'm so tired lately x

Sick bands mind try them off ebay and ginger beer too x

LolaLollypop · 08/10/2019 10:07

Hello!

36 here...
DD is 2 years old
21 weeks pregnant, expecting in Feb 2020. Don't know the sex.
Had a scary time with daughter's birth leading to a 2 week NICU stay so was very hopeful for a "normal" experience this time round.

Had our 20 week scan which showed a cyst on baby's kidney - going back for a consultant scan on Thursday so feeling a bit anxious about that. Hopefully it's nothing/something minor and not cause for concern.
Been feeling fine pregnancy-wise. Bump is starting to get in the way of things now and I'm definitely out of non-maternity clothes :o)

Hugsandpastries · 08/10/2019 12:11

Hoping all goes well for you second time round @lolalollypop x

PetaO · 08/10/2019 16:26

@tiredmoma I'm 23 weeks today. Feeling huge and exhausted!
Looking forward to half term as then I won't have the school run to contend with!
Its lovely to feel the movements, and I did get a bit more sleep last night. Sadly an anterior placenta means that DH hasn't felt anything yet.
Hope everyone has managed to get some rest today!

MissPepper8 · 08/10/2019 16:29

@LolaLollypop

Hope everything's ok on Thursday when you have another scan, I didn't even know that was possible. Can understand you are a bit anxious anyway with the 20 week scan (I am worrying like nuts, always do) but we're all here if you need to chat x

LolaLollypop · 08/10/2019 16:32

Thank you! If they find an anomaly on the 20 week scan they will send you for another scan with a specialist. My one is with the Urologist as it's to do with baby's kidney. Keeping everything crossed!!

Helbelle17 · 08/10/2019 16:37

Hi everyone
I'm 44 and 8+5 with our 2nd (have had 2 miscarriages, so really my 4th pregnancy).
Had a scan on Saturday and all looking perfect.
We have a 2.5 year old dd who is the light of our lives and didn't think we'd be able to give her a sibling, so we're over the moon.
Super tired though, especially as dd was in hospital over the weekend. Need to catch up on sleep this week.

tiredmoma · 08/10/2019 17:13

Girls have any of yous had stomach pain or back pain around 5 weeks??

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 09/10/2019 08:24

If feels a lifetime away now @tiredmoma but yes, lots of pains in the early weeks, lots of things stretching even tho baby is tiny

Got my fat babies measured yesterday, they're about a week ahead on weight which is good as they'll be early so good growing baby boys!! 26+5 and 2lb 6oz each

QforCucumber · 09/10/2019 11:41

Hi all, I just had my +, 4 weeks with baby 2 but pregnancy 4. Fingers crossed all goes well this time, should have been 4 weeks away from due date right now so feeling a little fraught.

QforCucumber · 09/10/2019 11:41

Oh, I'm 32, already have a 3.5 year old DS.

MissPepper8 · 09/10/2019 18:10

@tiredmoma Weirdly not this pregnancy but 17 weeks today and I'm suffering with really bad crampy pain. If I move too quickly it runs into the groin.

It feels like I've pulled muscles either side my groin and lower back when I'm not cramping. Think I'm due a bump growth spurt, already looks bigger today.

LolaLollypop · 10/10/2019 14:52

Just a little update regarding my anomaly scan. I Googled the sh1t out of this when I had my 20 week scan so hoping this may help someone else in the future. So we had our 2nd scan and spoke to the consultant... the cyst definitely there in the renal area but there is only one, both kidneys look to be functioning normally and baby has a good amount of fluid around it. Consultant said he's not too worried and it could just be one of those things that needs monitoring and can be sorted out once baby is born. Back in 4 weeks for another scan!
Feeling relieved now - it's much more reassuring to hear the specialist say these things. They also said baby is very active and was kicking around happily in there :o)
