No movement 17 weeks

Hi everyone

I am around 17 weeks with my first baby and I haven’t felt any movement. Well, I don’t think I have! Deffo nothing that has made me think ‘that was deffo the baby and not just hunger, gas, round ligament pain, etc’

My midwife asked me at my appointment if I had felt movement and when I said no she said this was normal, but why ask if you wouldn’t expect me to?! She wrote in my notes ‘no fetal movement’ which has worried me even more

I have gone through a missed miscarriage before and it was awful - I am terrified of having another at this later stage.

When did all you lovely ladies feel movement for the first time? How did you know it was the baby? Was it regular? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you x

I felt it at 19 weeks, which I think is still on the early side!

You've got plenty of time yet.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/09/2019 16:33

I had an anterior placenta, the location of it matters when you can feel movements, but I didn't feel movements till maybe 24 weeks?

cj28 · 24/09/2019 16:34

Try not to worry! I know it's easier said than done, but it's usually between 16-25 weeks that you first feel your baby, so at 17 weeks you're still very early on that scale. I think I was about 18/19 weeks when I first felt movements.

Mintypea5 · 24/09/2019 16:35

First baby about 18/19 weeks. Was like a weird fluttering popping sensation. Easy to miss! Didn't get big kicks and movements until 24 weeks+ I had a posterior placenta that time so
Movement was obvious to see too!

With DS2 (anterior placenta) not until 22 weeks.

Baby 3 due November about 16 weeks I felt the flutters (but only because I knew what I was looking for) but but started feeling kicks about 19 weeks ish.

It's really normal especially as a FTM not to feel anything until much later. It's just one of the starters questions. They ask. Try not to worry

Bucatini · 24/09/2019 16:35

Try not to worry OP. I didn't feel it till 20 weeks with my first.

Josumner4 · 24/09/2019 16:44

About 21 weeks for first baby and 20 weeks for second baby. This is completely normal do not worry at all x

Lou2120 · 24/09/2019 16:48

First baby 22 weeks
Second baby 24 weeks anterior placenta
Third baby 15 weeks

I wouldn't worry at this stage its normal

Eggcellent29 · 24/09/2019 16:52

Thank you so much ladies! 🥰

All of your responses have really made me feel much better!

Please please don't worry - 17 weeks is still early for your first baby, many people don't feel anything until after 20-23 weeks.
She just made a note of it for information, rather than anything to be concerned about.
The first movements felt like popcorn kernels popping inside me and sometimes like a butterfly fluttering it's wings - the movements are so small that it's hard to know at first, but then they become more regular and you will know! x

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 24/09/2019 17:03

Normal! I started feeling it around 17 weeks, but it took me a while to realise what I was feeling, at first it felt like little muscle spasms. Hopefully you will notice something soon but you definitely don't need to be worrying!

popcorndiva · 24/09/2019 17:06

I had no flutters, nothing until the morning of my 20 week scan. I had been up since 4am being sick and I got a massive kick. It was like 'hey you will see me soon keep going. After that he didn't stop kicking. So don't worry

Beck2277 · 24/09/2019 17:18

21 weeks and nothing obvious and found out on Friday its an anterior placenta which helps explain it. Baby very well and very active :)

LouH1981 · 24/09/2019 18:38

Ah, please don’t worry, I was 21 weeks before I felt my first movement with my first.
17 weeks with current one but only because I knew what to feel for.
The position of the placenta doesn’t always help especially if it’s at the front (if you know where yours is lying) xx
You’ll feel him/her soon xx

mrsed1987 · 24/09/2019 18:41

I didnt feel anything till 21 weeks, placenta was at the front and im chubby! Lol. Have a healthy 8 month old now so try not to worry

user1493413286 · 24/09/2019 18:41

19 weeks with my first; I think it’s just a standard question so please don’t worry

ruralcat · 24/09/2019 18:44

I was 19 weeks with my first when I felt definite movement and once I'd felt it I then felt it all the time. With my 2nd and 3rd it's been earlier than that and I do often wonder whether I was feeling movement with my first but just didn't register it!

QueenBeex · 24/09/2019 18:47

I didn't feel nothing till about 20 weeks or so

Brianna83 · 24/09/2019 18:54

Similar for me to other posters, 21 weeks with my first baby and only just started to feel movements this week. I don't think you've any need to worry op.

RoRosmama · 24/09/2019 21:07

I didn't feel DD1 move until 20 weeks. Now pregnant with DD2 and started feeling flutterings from 14 weeks. She completely stopped moving this week (week 17) but had a scan today and she's a right little wriggler.
Try not to worry yourself. You'll feel baby soon enough!

CupCupGoose · 24/09/2019 21:23

I'm 19 weeks with my third and only started feeling movements about a week ago and I'm supposed to know what movements feel like! I really wouldn't worry. I was 20 odd weeks before I felt anything first time round.

splishandsplash · 24/09/2019 21:30

I'm currently pregnant with my first, I didn't feel anything till 22 weeks, please don't panic, i was so reassured when the movement did start, it's weird because once's it's there you know about it!
Please don't panic but maybe mention it at your 20 weeks scan when you go xx

twoheaped · 24/09/2019 21:34

24 weeks.
Back to back, small baby and a lot of amniotic fluid meant I felt very little movement throughout my whole pregnancy.

wallymum · 24/09/2019 21:40

Think I felt definitive movements at about 22 weeks. Sure all is well but understand your angst x

siantwinmum · 24/09/2019 21:45

I didn't feel mine until about 21 weeks. And I had twins! Everyone is different - it starts as the most gentle flutter and only gets bigger as the baby grows. Take time to sit perfectly still, hands on belly, complete silence and fingers crossed you feel something soon x

Frazzled2207 · 24/09/2019 23:14

I had an anterior placenta and other than very very faint flutters at perhaps 17/18 weeks felt nothing until about 22 weeks.
