Being induced tomorrow - trying not to freak out!

Just needed somewhere to let this out.
I'm just over 39 weeks and been booked in for an induction tomorrow.
I've had repeated high bp, heart rate checks over the last few weeks, again today so I think they're looking to stay on the safe side and keep things monitored.
Was hoping I wouldnt need induced as I've heard for first timers it can be quite a long, drawn out process but I'm torn as I know it's best for me and baby!
Trying not to freak out, cant believe it's all really happening (as daft as that sounds!) - please wish me luck 🤞

Hey OP I have no experience to share as I'm on baby no 1 currently but just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world! I'm sure you will be fine and you'll be in good hands so try to relax (as much as possible!).

How exciting that you could be meeting your little one before the week is out! Smile

Let us know how you get on xx

My consultant says it’s often more drawn out because it’s more painful than natural childbirth so women start pushing when they shouldn’t and then tire themselves out - if you agree to an epidural or spinal it could help move things along.

NotSoThinLizzy · 23/09/2019 17:27

Also depending on how they induce you can make a difference. Get lots of rest now. Hope all goes well.

KatnissMellark · 23/09/2019 17:29

I was induced with a single pessary and it worked fine. Nothing happened for 24 hours, buy then active labour of around 4. Painful of course but I copied on gas and air. Fingers crossed you'll have a similar experience. Good luck, try to get some sleep Flowers

purplefig · 23/09/2019 17:32

@NewMama2Be all the best tomorrow! One thing you might want to look into is some breathing techniques. I've done the full course, but I really rate the free content available on this channel: . Also, you might want to read some positive induction stories (again, great stuff here: thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/blog/category/induction).

Also, do your research on epidurals. They can be helpful in some situations, but not in others. Up to you to decide what is right for you, I'd just say be as informed as possible.

Just sharing my experience. I was induced at 42 weeks. The pessary was put in at 12:00 midday, I started having slight contractions like severe period pain within 30 mins but was sent home.

10pm the same day I was back in hospital in labour. Baby arrived at 4am!

It was a whirlwind!

NewMama2Be · 23/09/2019 20:13

Wow, thanks for sharing.
I'm hoping its quick 🤞 midwife today said I'll be booked into tmrw and wont be leaving til I've had my baby so doesnt look like they'll send me home, thankfully!

Thanks @purplefig - ive done the online course so think I'll rewatch the induction vids again this evening just to get my mind in the zone 🤞

Thanks @katnissmellark - I think I've heard too many stories of induction being so long and drawn out that its stuck, just need to get my head into a more positive place and what will be will be. We'll both be in good hands in the best possible place, I'm sure 🤞

Thanks @teddybear45 - im trying to keep an open mind re pain relief options so will see how it goes. Not keen on anything that might make me feel sick, but then again that may become the least of my worries 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I was induced at 39 weeks . Took a few hours for waters to break after peasant . 2 hours 20 minutes . Was my 1st.

Good luck x

NewMama2Be · 23/09/2019 20:19

Thank you so much @mummybear405 - it's crazy to think she'll be here soon.
Any crazy that it feels so surreal, like what have I been waiting for the last 9 months if not this? 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂

NewMama2Be · 23/09/2019 20:20

Wow @starlighty456 - that's fast! I can only hope 🤞

I was induced and it took 2 days for ds to arrive :(

HighViolet2 · 23/09/2019 20:26

I was induced when I was 5 days overdue. Had the pessary around 3pm and my baby was born before midday the next day. It can take a long time - but it doesn't always!

nopenotplaying · 23/09/2019 20:28

Good luck xx I've had 3 inductions all took various times. It's not that bad. My over due baby was the quickest, 12 hours from arrival at the hospital to holding baby! Took two days for my 38 weeker though x

GeoffreyAndBungle · 23/09/2019 20:35

Induction can be a positive experience!

I was induced at 35 weeks expecting a dreadful and long drawn out birth. Had sweep and peassary at 9, chilled out and read Hello magazine till my waters broke and I got my first twinges at 1pm then DS arrived 50 minutes later 😱

Not going to lie it was fast and furious (and painful - no time for the epidural I had planned and by the time they'd got me a paracetamol and some gas and air I was pushing him out!) but it was v manageable and mercifully quick!

Good luck Smile

Qwerty19 · 23/09/2019 20:44

My 2nd was induction. Pessary at 8. 30 am.. No luck. Then 9pm on the drip took a while they upped dosage at 11pm then it went super quick baby arrived just after 1am
Gas and air. Wanted the one they offer begins with Rem... I think. But no anesthest around as was in an emergency so didn't get it.. Glad I didn't.. Home by 2pm

Bellafreud · 23/09/2019 21:02

I was induced because of pre eclampsia with my first at 37 weeks and labour was pretty quick. My consultant advised that ladies with high blood pressure tend to labour quickly and I didn’t believe her at the time! Less than 10 hours from pessary insertion for me, no drip or other intervention necessary. Try not to go in with too many ore conceptions and take it as it comes. Good luck!!!!

Stephminx · 23/09/2019 21:21

Both my inductions were 4 hours start to finish. You’ll do great !

NewMama2Be · 23/09/2019 22:20

Ah @stephminx you lucky thing, that would be ideal 🤣

NewMama2Be · 23/09/2019 22:22

So far, so good. On the ward, 1 pessary done late morning and feeling very achy and crampy already. Hoping that's a good sign 🤞
