Just curious! My friend tried to explain some thing she had to help stimulate the baby's brain cells - it was a strap on thing and had a new noise for each week from week 20, I got very confused! I have bought a Mexican Boula to soothe the baby but just wondered what else people have tried if anything

Hiii MrsMCJnr....

I try to talk to the bump and have conversations especially in the bath!!

i did read books to DS - he does like books but sort of to throw around.

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 14:32

I used to get Cherry Garcia and pick all the cherries out first.

WideWebWitch · 10/08/2007 14:35

I thought this was going to be a joke.
blimey, people DO this?

MrsMcJnr · 10/08/2007 14:37

I like to think that I'm persuading my bump to not to go into showbusiness, what with my less than tuneful singing voice. It is privy to a disgraceful amount of dance music though....

Anyway, I've outsourced all my baby's developmental needs to Cadburys.

Sx

When she was big, I stroked DD1 so she would enjoy physical touch

She hates it

In fact I always thought she squirmed away, even in utero

I also sang the Carpenters and Cliff Richard choons on the way to work every day (in the car, not wandering down the street) - the only trouble with this is that now when I hear Cliff Richard I am reminded of my awful morning sickness and feel nauseous

Pennypops · 10/08/2007 15:29

Morning Paper - I often feel nauseous when listening to Cliff but suspect morning sickness has little to do with this.

PurpleLostPrincess · 10/08/2007 15:37

I have introduced this lo to the joys of 'CAR-aoke' which is a past-time the whole family enjoys. DH and I have very eclectic music tastes but I have my favourites (which he annoyingly doesn't like!) so when its just me and my bump, I blast them and sing at the top of my lungs!

motherinferior · 10/08/2007 15:39

People do this????????????

MrsMcJnr · 10/08/2007 15:45

Many of you seem to be singing I am frigtened of hearing myself sing never mind subjecting LO to it

Anyone listened to the free Pampers CD of what babies can hear in the womb from the Bounty pack? hilarious! it starts off with breakfast conversation, we hear: "hello darling, would you like some toast" baby hears: "whoosh, whoosh hmmhmhm hmhmhmhm hmmm" then the same with music. The idea of the CD is to choose a "womb" song but I didn't get that far, not keen on classical music personally (not at all musical sadly)

how about
"You will sleep 10 hours a night and nap for 3 hours during the day"

ad infinitum

wish I'd done that I can tell yer

JudithS · 10/08/2007 15:48

I know you are meant to play it Mozart and talk to it in a soothing voice but mine just gets to hear CSI, Waking The Dead and House.

mixedmama · 10/08/2007 15:52

MrsMcJnr - I have that in my drawer waiting to be listened to - I do remember listening to it the first time round, very funny.

peachygirl · 10/08/2007 15:53

I took DD to work, she enjoyed me playing the guitar and the singing in assembly and it's a wonder she doesn't think her name is something else due to the amount of ' stop that....' to various children.
She also went to the cinema, the Royal Opera house and to several West End shows, particularly enjoying Avenue Q.

hunkermunker · 10/08/2007 16:01

I bought goalposts, shoved them up my fanjo and prayed to Beckham - DS1 played football with my placenta and came out singing "who ate all the pies?".

NormaStanleyFletcher · 10/08/2007 16:08

PMSL - can I nominate Hunker for quote of the week?

lemonaid · 10/08/2007 16:08

There is proper scientific research (I have the reference stored away somewhere) that shows that eating chocolate when pregnant makes for a happier baby once it's born. Now that's what I call Useful Science...

toadstool · 10/08/2007 17:45

Cbeebies 2 hours a day and the rustling of food wrappings. Tried some Handel opera yesterday and DH switched it off claiming we were wasting electricity . Can't stand the thought of a boula, it would irritate the heck out of me.

Peachy · 10/08/2007 17:48

MrsBadger you can ahrdly blame them, Univeristy coffee 9and food generally, atleast at ours) is pretty poor!.

mine will accompany me through an enitire dissertation on Christian influences on the transatlantic slave trade, will do a theology qualification and a self study unit on the the cult of the boddhisattva as well. Will also get a crash course in high quality chocolate.

Peachy · 10/08/2007 17:50

Oh and a crash course in the complete works of Mika, belted out by Moi, obviously. Classic stuff

MrsBadger · 10/08/2007 17:52

we have excellent Fairtrade filter coffee for lab staff
but if the visiting people are annoying we give them cheapo instant

Peachy · 10/08/2007 17:54

We have fair trade yet still nasty machine coffee at £1.20 a cup and more cost for staff

And the food is mostly glutinous and unidentifiable- even by the staff that amde it

ho hum

JARM · 10/08/2007 17:57

now ive had my tea, im waiting for kids to go to bed so i can raid my caramel chew chew ben and jerrys!

DD1 sings twinkle twinkle little star to the baby, so i guess baby will HATE it when he's born

DD1 also likes to talk to bump through my belly button - poor thing!

BlueberryPancake · 10/08/2007 21:16

Dance! I played all sorts of good dance music, latin and salsa, and danced around loads. It's good for the mum and I hope that my sons will have good sense of rythm!

Spidermama · 10/08/2007 21:27

I climbed a mountain and ate doughnuts.
