Just that really. I had complications after a emcs last time. Looks like I will have an elective this time so trying to get my head around timescales

Two nights both times.

lorisparkle · 12/09/2019 14:32

5 days with my first, 3 days with my second and 1 day with my last! From reading other posts I think they are much keener to get you home as soon as possible than they were when I had my c-sections.

doozer42 · 12/09/2019 14:32

Depends on the time of birth. But assuming all goes well, and it's not late in the evening, it can be just one night.

skiclothes · 12/09/2019 14:32

Two nights. Had to really push to be discharged though and didn't get out until 7pm on the second day.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 12/09/2019 14:33

Ended up being an emcs as I went into labour the night before but 1 night. That's the standard here for electives if you are both okay. They did offer me another night as I was slightly anemic but got the hint when they saw I'd already packed.

My consultant did say that if I wanted longer, it wouldn't be an issue though.

Rubberyduck · 12/09/2019 14:43

I have mixed feelings because last time I was in for 5days (+4day Labour) and it honestly was the last place I wanted to be. Admittedly at the time the care wasn't great either.

Now I have what will be a 2yo. And the thought of going straight home is equally terrifying in the respects that my son will obviously not understand that mummy needs to rest. My DH is very keen for me to leave ASAP which I fully understand.

I guess we will see!

2 nights.
I was happy to leave after 2 nights there, even with a very active toddler at home.
Far too much noise and too many crying babies (that weren't mine).

Fridakahlofan · 12/09/2019 14:46

1 night - I LOVED mine and would look forward to another - good luck!

blackcat86 · 12/09/2019 14:47

It depends if you have any complications. I spent 5 days on the ward after a planned c section because my blood pressure was ridiculous and they couldn't get it down. This worked for me as DD was in special care and I didnt want to leave her. Other women on the ward were usually out between 24-48hrs.

loutypips · 12/09/2019 14:51

Two nights, but there was a woman there that went home after only one night.
Honestly I would've stayed longer if I could've! But really I was fine to go home.

Roomba · 12/09/2019 15:01

Three nights - but that was purely because DS was monitored for 72 hours due to medication I was on. Otherwise they'd have sent me home next day if all was well. I was absolutely horrified at that when they told me, as I was in for two weeks after my EMCS and couldn't even sit u let alone go home after 24 hours, it was excruciating.

However, I found my ELCS to be so much easier than the EMCS. I think I would have been fine with going home next day. Obviously I wouldn't have been skipping out of the building, but the pain level, recovery time and general feeling like death situation was far better after the planned section.

Celebelly · 12/09/2019 15:02

I was only in for one night with my EMCS! I was desperate to leave though (although we got readmitted as DD had jaundice).

Florencenotflo · 12/09/2019 15:09

I would have been out after one night. Ended up staying for a second night because there were issues with DD's blood tests and some jaundice. But we would have been home after 1 night.

Kanga83 · 12/09/2019 15:13

Three nights as I had complications during the elective and had a huge skin reaction to the drapes and adhesive used during the operation, although I know this is not common at all.

Rubberyduck · 12/09/2019 15:20

OK, so it looks like an average of 2 days without complications and of course I don't want any of those. That I i can probably manage!

One night

lee12345 · 12/09/2019 15:25

I stayed one night, had section around 11am & home by 7pm the next day. I had no complications & I was very eager to leave as soon as possible

Expressedways · 12/09/2019 15:29

3 nights but that was private. I was very much ready to go home after 2 but couldn’t have done so comfortably after 1. No complications.

mamaoffourdc · 12/09/2019 15:29

1 night for both

wonkylegs · 12/09/2019 15:49

With my elective it was 36hours, would have been 24 but there was a complication with the paperwork (I have complex health problems) and had to get a senior consultant to sign off so took a while for them to be free.

nonmerci · 12/09/2019 16:31

He was born at 4:30pm and we were home by 8am the next day.

I thought I’d be in for days but no, they wanted me out ASAP and I was pleased tbh. Nobody wants to be in hospital.

LaPufalina · 12/09/2019 16:34

One night for both of mine. First one I was the one asking to go (2016), second one they basically kicked me out before I was ready to go after 23 hours because they needed the bed, they were packing for me whilst I was getting dressed!

Rubberyduck · 12/09/2019 19:24

Wow that's so quick!

I was only in for one night too. Tbh it felt a bit soon to be turfed out (particularly with a nearly hour long drive to get home, with lots of speed bumps... ouch) but recovery was much easier than I expected. I had my CS first thing in the morning which probably helped speed things along. I was up and about that evening, catheter out around 9pm.

RoseQuartzGlow · 13/09/2019 09:12

I had two and was in for three to five nights I think with both. I can't imagine having gone home earlier.
