Why has miscarriage stopped?

6 weeks pregnant, 4th time this year all ended in mmc no reason apart from age (40). Yesterday stopped feeling exhausted and had some pink discharge when wiping. Period like cramps for about 2 mins on 3-4 occasions. Thought definitely lost it, although other mmc just loss of symptoms and brown discharge. Obviously very upset and drank about half a bottle of wine last night. Woke up no further bleeding. White discharge. Still not tired, breasts hurt marginally. What do I do? I cant go to epau and face another disappointing scan, besides went back to work yesterday and I'm a teacher. Epau is only open 9 am for an hour and I cant take more time off work (had so much already for this reason). Also the students are starting back so would be massively unprofessional and inconvenient.
How long until it passes if there was pink discharge yesterday and none now? Did the wine delay it?

Cramping doesn't necessarily mean you've MC it can be perfectly normal, I really would suggest seeing GP or EPU for a scan to confirm whether you have mc or not. Be kind to yourself

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 15:06

Thank you for your response. I wouldn't think it based just on the cramping but the pink discharge and loss of fatigue on top of it all leads to that direction. I dont know why it started then stopped and I guess I want to know when it will happen, if anyone else had these symptoms how long it took?

As above - it could all be normal and not necessarily the worst case scenario. I’ve had 2 MCs and started spotting at 7 weeks and had some cramping. Scan showed bean with a heartbeat which we saw again privately at 9 weeks. Midwife said many women get small bout(s) of unexplained bleeding. And cramping can be really normal as things are stretching and moving.

I’m also a teacher but sometimes you have to take priority over the 30 children in your classes. It’s not unprofessional, it’s necessary medical attention. It also can not count against you for attendance as pregnancy related and they can’t take pay.

Could you call Monday (unless your EPAC is 7 days a week) and get a scan for Tues AM? If you’re really against taking time off, could you get an evening/late afternoon GP appointment and ask for bloods to check HCG and then another 2 days later? Or pay for a private scan that’s in the late afternoon/evening?

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 15:11

Thank you keyboard, I could pay for a private scan that is a good idea- my rm consultant only works in the mornings so I would rather not take time off. Last miscarriage I had mva and was off for 3 days, the one before I went into cervical shock and was ill for 3 weeks with complications and the one before that I was off due two days. I know my health is more important but I think I'm unfortunately pretty experienced in this now and want to try to get through it with least disruption. I have a year 7 tutor group so wouldn't be great to miss the first day.

I had a mmc in July and mine went-
Found out I was pregnant at 4.5 weeks
2 days later all symptoms except boob pain completely disappeared, 6 weeks had a small bleed and light cramping but as I’ve had 3 previous miscarriages decided to go epau suspected mc but couldn’t confirm as too small week later confirmed didn’t actually miscarry until 12 weeks.
So 6 weeks after the small bleed for me
Really hope this isn’t the case for you it was awful for me truly sole destroying my pervious MC was Liturally one day your pregnant next day boom
The mental touture is the hardest
Please go get a scan to put your mind at ease and don’t drink x

Oh sweetie, that sounds god awful :( pregnancy after loss is horrific.

I can see where internal pressure would build with a new group of little Yr7s. TBH at the beginning of term I get tetchy about time off too - I think teachers are terrible at being unwell or needing medical attentions I was off more than in for the whole of the Xmas term a couple of years ago and felt awful ... but battling to keep going back landed me with sepsis so I’m a little better at taking time than I was. I’ve got to take 2 afternoons off on the 10th and 13th for appointments and I’m dreading telling them though.

If you can pay, and there is a clinic close enough then that sounds a sensible compromise. They may even have appointments for this weekend. My experience with private scans in very positive in that the ladies are always lovely about everything and they have time to spend with you whatever the outcome.

Sending love and lots of crossed digits your way my lovely 🤞❤️🤞❤️

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 15:22

Oh I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I will get seen privately 6 weeks is too long to wait. The second mmc came out two weeks after the fetus died but this could also take 12 weeks.
I just feel like I cant go through the operation again, maybe the work thing is a way for me to be in denial.
I wont drink I feel like death after the 2 glasses I had last night, literally.
Thank you

Thank you keyboard99. I will look into scan for tomo and will ask my partner to come back. I hope your appointments go well

I am a teacher, had three traumatic mcs, I really do understand the struggle.

It's impossible to know from what you have described what is going on in there. I have everything crossed for you that it's just a scare.

I'd say deal with your Y7s and then get a private scan in the afternoon, if you feel you can.

MrsH497 · 31/08/2019 15:36

I agree with getting a private scan it might just help you know what's going on. I really hope this is just a scare for you and little one is just snuggling in.
MC is the worst thing ever I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, no matter what stage you're at it's traumatic.
Your health is important and pregnancy related sickness can not be counted detrimentally against you.
Look after yourself

loutypips · 31/08/2019 15:41

If you have anymore sudden pains, please go to a&e. I had similar symptoms to you - but I didn't know or suspect I was pregnant - just thought it was a strange period. Turned out to be an ectopic.
Wasn't like the other mc I had, I hardly bled.
Also, watch for any pains in your shoulder as that's another sign.
Hope it's nothing though Thanks

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 15:46

Wow thank you for your support, I actually feel much better as you're right I cant know what's going on. I feel ok in myself loss of fatigue but no more cramping or discharge as yet. Have asked my partner to see if he can be back tomo or Monday and will book a scan

I had cramping-pink and brown spotting at week six with this pregnancy also felt like I’d lost my symptoms. I got pregnant straight after a miscarriage in June so was pretty sure it was the end again. I booked for a private scan and all was fine. Symptoms really ramped up at the end of week six. Sometimes your body just gets rid of residual blood and I’m hoping it’s the same for you. It may not necessarily be worst case scenario x

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 16:49

Oh wow I'm so pleased for you ginmonkey. Can I ask did your boobs get less sore? My fatigue has eased up and I dont hate everyone anymore and Boobs only spre if I prod them.

I went to a window to the Womb clinic for a private scan for the same reason. They do weekend appointments too. Went to GP, they said just let it run it's course, I didn't meet the criteria for an early scan and my local EPAU.
My "miscarriage" is now 9 months old.

Mumof2and3angles · 31/08/2019 17:05

It is so hard and I think you have misscarriage in your head more if you have been through one.
With my first pregnancy that was ok I lost all symptoms and I mean I was throwing up horrifically then it stopped and the cramping started just like miscarriage pain and the spotting came, my midwife refused to do a scan because the bleeding stopped I had panic attacks because I thought it was happening again he has just turned 3.
A lot of women apparently have symptoms that come and go
The only way to know for sure is to get a scan or at least a hcg blood test

disconnecteddrifter · 31/08/2019 17:18

Thank you for your experiences I hope so so so much that it is the same for me.

Disconnecteddrifter- how u doing today x

disconnecteddrifter · 01/09/2019 16:17

Thanks for asking, really means a lot. My partner is coming back tomo and planning to go for a scan but to be honest I really csnt face the fourth disappointed looks from the sonographer. I know I have to sort it out. Havent had any more pink discharge, woke up nauseous but boobs are back to normal and I have had cramps today. I'm expecting the worse just dont think I can face it again.

Mumof2and3angles · 01/09/2019 17:45

With my boy I was so convinced of the same I just didn’t look don’t look at the person doing the scan or the screen it was seeing my partners face light up sent me into tears and I was positive it was bad news x

OrangeSwoosh · 01/09/2019 22:10

Cramping is normal in early pregnancy as things stretch and do weird things. Best of luck for the scan

disconnecteddrifter · 04/09/2019 18:28

Just an update as I know I was frustrated when I didnt find out the outcome. Went for a scan today and they could only see a mass of fluid dating me about 5.5 weeks and I am supposed to be 6 weeks. They csnt offer me any removal because they legally have to wait a week before they can get things moving. Thank you for all of your support.

OP posts:
OrangeSwoosh · 04/09/2019 19:56

Half a week discrepancy in early pregnancy is entirely possible (and very common). Fingers firmly crossed for next week for you Flowers

FireBloodAndIce · 04/09/2019 20:04

5 and half weeks or 5 weeks 5 days? It's not abnormal as pp says, i was further in my pregnancies due to early ovulation, the opposite can happen too.

Hopefully in a week you'll get better news.

disconnecteddrifter · 04/09/2019 20:39

Sorry 5 and a half weeks so I am measuring a week behind. 'm really not holding out hope. The doctor didnt think it was good news either. Have to wait a week in case there is a mistake. Thank you
