If you had an anterior placenta, when did you start to feel movements?

I'm nearly 21 one weeks and although I saw baby wriggling around earlier this week at our scan, I still don't think I'm feeling movements.

I've had some strange sensations, but I wouldn't describe them as flutters really...and I have an anterior placenta (high) and baby was buried down low...so I don't know if I should be feeling more...but it's the first time I've got past 20 weeks so I'm not really sure what I'm looking out for!

Hi! Started feeling baby move a little every so often around 21 weeks. Now 32 and feel him move all the time! Usually nice big kicks too, However he still has some quieter days, even went to get him checked over and they could hear him moving on ctg and see him on scan and I was amazed that I just couldn't feel it. So it can really depend how baby sits as well. Smile

I think it was somewhere around 20-21 weeks where I finally could identify movements. I believe either on the NHS site or maybe Tommy’s that they tell you to go in at a certain point if you still haven’t felt movement. Maybe 24 weeks?

It felt like ages for me and I did have to go in for reduced movement a few times. But she’s here now and still kicking me! Hope you feel something soon!

pinkunicorn20 · 28/08/2019 16:59

Around 26 weeks for me

pooopypants · 28/08/2019 17:36

20 ish weeks with DC1

18 ish weeks with DC2

Both anterior placenta. Many of the movements I felt weren't kicks, they were more subtle and 'rolls' or 'swoops'. Even some tapping sensations. I remember happening upon a really good article about movements.... try googling 'types of fetal movement'

Bellasblankexpression · 28/08/2019 17:48

that's really useful @pooopypants maybe I have been feeling some and not realising it - I have definitely felt some weird swooping sensations - quite quick but definitely there.
Also some feelings that could have just been gas or digestion Grin

I didn't realise that @Kescilly I will check the website as we are going away at 27 weeks [still in the UK] and I was hoping I'd have a bit of a pattern by then so I wouldn't worry while I'm away.

I have the same with my placenta, I only started feeling my baby move last week properly, I'm 22 weeks tomorrow xx

Bellasblankexpression · 28/08/2019 19:05

thanks @nataliemum25 I know it sounds stupid but how did you know it was definitely movement?

I felt small movements around 16/17 weeks, then little wriggles until 21 weeks. Since then I have proper kicks, bigger movements and wriggling and I'm 24 weeks tomorrow

Squashpocket · 28/08/2019 19:17

I've had one anterior and one posterior pregnancy and the difference was absolutely massive in terms of how much movement I felt and how early.

With my anterior pregnancy (dc2) I felt the first tiny movements at 17 weeks, but not even every day until about 24 weeks. With my posterior pregnancy I felt the first kick at 15 weeks and then almost ALL THE TIME. He never seemed to stop moving ever, except very occasionally he would go quiet and scare the living shit out of me.

Weirdly the anterior pregnancy was actually much more relaxing because I didn't expect to feel much, so if baby was having a quiet day I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Peachee · 28/08/2019 20:26

I started to feel mine at 22-23 weeks. I'm a first time mom and was the same as you I couldn't understand why I wasn't feeling a thing but now I feel flutters all the time.
It feels like wind in your tummy. I'm 24 weeks now.

GammaStingRay · 28/08/2019 20:57

Mine is anterior.

I felt absolutely nothing until 19+3, when I felt a couple days of tiny little taps. Kept doubting whether it was baby it was so soft. After two days I suddenly felt kicks! They felt like little pulses in an area. Then two days later it progressed to harder kicks, so hard my partner could feel them from the outside. I was really surprised as I’d read that mums usually feel movement weeks earlier than anyone else can from the outside. I’m slim which helps as if you’re overweight your fat can muffle the movement somewhat and make it harder to feel it inside or from the outside. Are you a normal weight or heavier as that will influence it as well as the placenta location x

Bellasblankexpression · 28/08/2019 21:24

I’m a normal weight (BMI was under 25 before pregnancy) although I have chunked up a fair bit now due to the dreaded three months of beige food due to sickness! But I’m still fitting in a lot of my tops and dresses that has a bit of stretch.
Interesting - maybe I have felt some movement and just haven’t realised what it was as I’ve definitely had sensations they’ve just not felt like flutters which is how everyone described them to me. More like wind! Blush

i felt "bubbles" ar 16 weeks :)

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 28/08/2019 22:07

Started feeling little pulses at 16/17 weeks both times, but first time around I didn't realise these were baby movements until about 18 weeks

Grandmi · 29/08/2019 00:01

My daughter has only felt proper kicks yesterday and she is 23 weeks ...try not to worry!!

Grandmi · 29/08/2019 00:02

She has an anterior placenta as well .X

Kinsters · 29/08/2019 03:44

I felt a one off kick at 18 weeks but I'd felt bubbling for a while before that. I started getting regular strong kicks low down (ie below the placenta) at maybe 20 weeks. It's only now at 22 weeks that I'm feeling regular kicks against where I think my placenta is. If I hadn't felt the earlier strong ones low down I'm not sure if be convinced that these are baby kicks as they're very gentle (which I love! The low down ones hurt and made me feel ill).

BrokenLogs · 29/08/2019 04:02

Around 24/25 weeks with dd1.

Sadie789 · 29/08/2019 04:04

I barely felt any movements right through my anterior placenta pregnancy. Just very dull and occasional movements.

Second pregnancy with normal placenta I had massive kicks and very obvious movements.

Sadie789 · 29/08/2019 04:05

Although to add I would trust your gut if you don’t think you are getting regular movements even if they are very subtle. Keep in touch with your midwife about this.

Bellasblankexpression · 29/08/2019 06:27

Thank you @Sadie789 I will do, I will speak to her at my next appointment. I’m hoping I will start feeling proper kicks in the next couple of weeks, it must be unnerving not to feel much the whole way through! How did you track movements or did you just go with your gut as you said?

Hi OP, I wrote a thread on this too as I was gutted I may not be able to feel movement until much later if not at all..

I'm 20 weeks now and have just started feeling in the last fee days some kicks low down. I find when I lie down in bed in the evening she is really wiggly.

I was looking for the bubbly, butterfly, popcorn sensations that every talks about but her movements literally just feel like a tiny baby moving inside me, very low down.

It wont be long! 😁😁

rubyroot · 29/08/2019 07:53

Started to feel what I thought was wind at 15 weeks, at 16 weeks it was clearer they were movements

Leannej1986 · 29/08/2019 08:11

Hi, I was so upset at the thought of maybe not being able to feel my baby so early on in pregnancy due to having a front facing placenta. At about 22 weeks I felt for 4 days little bubbles popping inside my stomach, I had no idea that was my baby moving, now at 25 weeks the popping sensation has increased and you start to notice it more and slowly get into a routine of when it occurs. Hope you start to feel something soon :)

NMCB · 29/08/2019 08:19

Hi

I first felt baby move at 22 weeks but just felt like my stomach turned- I was also feeling a bit disappointed it had taken so long due to placenta

I'm now 32 weeks and I feel her moving all the time and it's totally worth the wait 🥰
