hi all,

so I am 25 +5 weeks today and I'm starting to feel a little stressed out. haven't really felt any movement since yesterday - might have had a tiny bit this morning but not 100 percent sure as was half asleep. I have an anterior placenta as well however at my last appointment midwife didnt really say this should be a factor. I've drunk coke, had an ice cream, laid down on my left on my right on my back no response. not really sure how long you're supposed to leave it.

when would you call?

thanks x

Now. Why wouldn’t you just call and check?

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 25/08/2019 13:03

I went in for reduced movements at 24 weeks, it had been 5 hours. Just call triage and see what they say. When I went in (around midnight) they were lovely.

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 13:04

smartcarnotsosmartdriver are you in the UK? I dont know anyone who's had to go in for an issue with movement so I'm a bit unsure what to expect and worried they wont take it seriously :(

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 25/08/2019 13:05

@Hopex3 I live in Scotland and they took it very seriously.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 25/08/2019 13:07

@Hopex3 they did full obs on me and listened to babies heart which sounded perfect, they said if I had presented more than once then they would book me in for a scan but he's been moving around fine since then.

Char20499 · 25/08/2019 13:12

They will definitely take you seriously, I'm in the uk and went in with reduced movements around the same time with my last pregnancy (baby is 6 months old now) and they will check baby's movement and heart beat and certainly will not think it's silly at all, it's always best to safe than sorry hun

ChrisPrattsFace · 25/08/2019 13:14

I would have called yesterday.
It is literally their job to care for pregnant women.

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 13:16

thanks all, I rung my triage and they're getting the midwife on duty to come to mine and have a listen in. I'm trying not to get myself too panicky but I'm nearly in tears :( I did feel her yesterday but normally by now I feel like I would of done and it was more the fact I hadnt felt anything even after a can of coke (which I really dont normally like drinking when pregnant cos of caffeine/sugar levels)

OP posts:
smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 25/08/2019 13:18

@Hopex3 please don't panic, everything was fine for me and I have everything crossed that it will be for you too but it's always better to check, just in case.

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 13:20

thank you smartcarnotsosmartdriver, my other half panics too and keeps asking me why she wouldn't of moved and I dont know :'( finding it so stressful, I had a loss last year as well at only 8 weeks but that has taken away some of the naivety of being pregnant which is just making me panic even more :(

The advice is to call/go in triage if you’ve had a change in movements or a day without movements.

This caused me much anxiety in late pregnancy as my baby never established a pattern.

I’ve been in for it only one time, everything was fine. At the same time 4 more women were in for the same thing, and all their babies were fine too Smile

7Worfs · 25/08/2019 13:23

Btw if you drink s lot of cold water that can prompt movement, it sometimes did for me.
Also certain music provoked movements (a game I used to play)

Wynston · 25/08/2019 13:24

The midwife will be along soon and have a little feel and listen in on baby.
My first pregnancy i felt baby moving lots.
With my second pregnancy i would have to go and lie down to feel him moving.
I was worried a few times and went in for a check up-they are always so kind and would always put my mind at rest.
If in doubt get checked out. (I am in wales.)

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 13:27

I'm really hoping she will he here soon as other half is worrying more than me :( I'm gonna keep trying with cold drinks/laying down and just hope that all is okay

I'm in the UK and went into hospital for reduced movement a couple of times with both of my pregnancies. The midwives always took it seriously and both babies have been absolutely fine.

basicwitches · 25/08/2019 13:29

I hadn't felt mine move for 24 hours at 24 weeks, when i told them how long i hadn't felt anything they said i should have phoned straight away as soon as there is any sort of change in any 'pattern' i had developed! Hope everything is okay! Even though i hadn't felt movement she was actually moving, the midwife could feel her from the outside, they think it was also due to me having an anterior placenta

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 25/08/2019 13:33

I was in lots with reduced movement with my second. What used to work sometimes was playing loud music on my phone and putting it near the bump. Or making the phone ring loudly. Also the usual drink ice cold water and lie on the bed with no phone/ tv etc so you can concentrate on movement.

If still no movement after that definitely get checked.
What time is midwife due?

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 13:35

I've had a call back saying the community midwife is unable to get out atm and shes arranged me to go to the hospital :( feel so sick and shaken

OP posts:
smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 25/08/2019 13:37

I know it's easier said than done but they are still quite small and can move a lot, it's possible that they've turned their back to you and you can't feel the movement, we went up to the hospital and they were really quick at seeing us. Let us know how you get on.

katmarie · 25/08/2019 13:53

When I went in for reduced movements they took it very seriously, they told me they would rather you came, got checked, and everything was fine, and did that 50 times, than not come and something important in the health of your baby got missed. You are never wasting their time.

80sMum · 25/08/2019 14:15

Oh, bless you Hopex3, what a worrying time for you.

I hope that you're now in the hospital and that all is well. Flowers

SRK16 · 25/08/2019 14:16

Hope it’s all ok. I went in with reduced movements around 25 weeks and it turned out baby was just snoozing/in a position I couldn’t feel. Good luck xx

Hopex3 · 25/08/2019 14:20

she was okay :'( checked her heartbeat and it was normal so they didnt have to do anything else, I still feel nervy cos she hasnt moved but the midwife said sometimes they can have lazier days than others but it's just important not to assume this and get checked x

7Worfs · 25/08/2019 14:23

Great news, try and relax now.
You’ll likely have other quiet days (many of us do), so call earlier for a peace of mind

mistermagpie · 25/08/2019 14:26

I was in an out with reduced movements in both my last pregnancies, not once was I made to feel I shouldn't have called.

This pregnancy, I'm 26 weeks tomorrow, I've had very little movement but my community midwife told me not to expect a pattern until 28 weeks. I'm a bit confused by this as it wasn't the advice I had last time (which was only two years ago) and that's why I haven't called.

Anyway, I'm glad the heartbeat was good, that's a good sign at least.
