Just the above really as I shall be having one.

Currently approaching 24 weeks so a way to go but starting to think about practicalities of it all.

Thanks x

I stayed in one night. Got up to slowly walk as soon as the feeling was back in my legs, even with the catheter. But I had minimal complications and just wanted to get home.

SquintEastwood · 22/08/2019 15:53

Minimum of 2 nights in our area and tbh I was grateful for the rest/peace both times!

bonzo77 · 22/08/2019 15:59

Depends on various thinks. All being well it’s one night where I had mine. Longer if medically necessary.

2beautifulbabs · 22/08/2019 16:01

I stayed in one night once the catheter was removed I got up and moved about as much as I could and with the hospital I was at so long as you were able to go to the loo and had no complications you were able to go home 24 hours later

0lga · 22/08/2019 16:03

I stayed about 24 hours. The post natal ward was a total nightmare and I was DESPERATE to get home.

imaflutteringkite · 22/08/2019 16:04

I was on the afternoon list and out the next morning. It was my third section though and I was up and about ok.

Pipandmum · 22/08/2019 16:06

Three or four days with first and four with second. First one seemed to go fine not sure why I stayed in so long. Second one my baby was ill had to go to NICU so stayed until she was ok to go home.

Missingthesea · 22/08/2019 16:09

It feels astonishing to read this. When i had my first baby in 1975 it was normal to stay in hospital for 10 days after the first one, with a vaginal birth, but people who had a c-section stayed in for 2 weeks Shock

crosser62 · 22/08/2019 16:10

48 hours here.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 22/08/2019 16:11

Three nights for first , 4 nights for second.
No complications on either, had first baby late afternoon, second at lunch time. Was up and showered at 5.30am the next morning with both .

I’m in Ireland if it makes a difference

blackteaplease · 22/08/2019 16:11

I stayed in 48 hours for all 3 of mine

QueenOfCatan · 22/08/2019 16:13

One night like the others. Section on Tuesday morning, out just after lunch on Wednesday. I could have stayed longer to have another dose or two of oramorph (I think it's that, the strong stuff!) and I wish that I had tbh as I was in agony when it wore off!

Kate3150 · 22/08/2019 16:13

Thanks for all your replies, really helpful.

Seems if it’s a relatively straightforward procedure then stay is quite short. I’m not to fussed either way just curious, I’ve had the joys of wearing a catheter before 😫, I did go used to it to be fair so I’m sure all will be fine.

You can see I’ve got my priorities right, not too concerned about c section just catheter 😂 xx

That was my second section, first was a few days but that was because DD needed to stay in and it was an emcs so I don't know how long they would have waited to kick me out had it not been for that!

Pringlemunchers · 22/08/2019 16:15

Can I just say though. You are very much the patient, when you go home. Look at this, like the nursing / recovering is done at home. It is major surgery.

Heismyopendoor · 22/08/2019 16:19

With my two planned ones it was 2 nights. With my emergency one (my first section) I was in five nights as I was quite ill.

You will have lots of recovering to do at home though :)

Teddybear45 · 22/08/2019 16:21

You will have a shorter stay and fewer complications if it’s planned. I know women who have left same / next day.

tenbob · 22/08/2019 16:24

I was out after 24 hours, under the hospital’s fast track discharge option.

Anyone who was a normal BMI before pregnancy, and had an uncomplicated pregnancy and section was offered the option of being out after 1 night.

They had me up on my feet after about 8 hours, then sent a women’s physio to me in the morning, and after showing them to could walk to the end of the corridor and back, I was sent on my way

Not sure if all hospitals offer it but I was very glad mine did!

Ejb86 · 22/08/2019 16:36

Had DS at 3.30pm by elective and was allowed to leave by 2.00pm the next day.

Kate3150 · 22/08/2019 16:38

I will try and be a good patient 🤞🏼

I had major bowel surgery last year and was told not to lift more than a small jug of water for 6 weeks. I was naughty and caved before then but I will try and be better this year!!! X

The majority of units in the uk will discharge straightforward sections after 24 hours.

FallenSkies · 22/08/2019 16:44

I was told max 48 hours, as you have less chance of developing an infection at home so they would rather you heal there. All going well, once you are without a catheter and up and about they will look to discharge you.

Megan2018 · 22/08/2019 16:45

It’s 1 night as standard here if everything goes well, but often people opt to transfer to a separate MLU unit near home where they offer breastfeeding support for a couple more days to those who want it. We are very lucky to have this option though.

I’m planning on going there after my labour ward induction (which hopefully won’t require a section but I am high risk for one).

Theseptemberissues · 22/08/2019 16:47

25 hours from section to discharge
