Just the above really as I shall be having one.

Currently approaching 24 weeks so a way to go but starting to think about practicalities of it all.

Thanks x

I was in 5 days but was because my son dropped his birth weight and I got a urine infection from a really poorly positioned catheter. Generally recovered really quickly and with no complications from the surgery itself.

I'm also 24 weeks and having elective section and DREADING it. I had vaginal birth with my first so no idea what to expect. Also dreading been away from my toddler... as well as trying to look after a boisterous 20 month old boy aswell as a new born after a section 😩 xx

I was papped out the following morning (one night) which I wasn’t expecting tbh, and with hindsight I was still a bit shell shocked when I got home and it possibly was a bit soon.

Was in three nights with my first section albeit that was an emergency one.

olivo · 22/08/2019 21:30

With my first, I was in for 6 nights, emcs then she was quite poorly. For my 2nd, elective/ early, I had to stay for 2 as they had to do extra tests, then I begged to go; I had the beginnings of an infection but went back for 2 days as out patient as a compromise!

MadameJosephine · 22/08/2019 21:34

Catheter should be taken out as soon as the spinal wears off and you are mobile again so shouldn’t be in too long anyway

Ginmonkey84 · 22/08/2019 21:49

48hrs for me elective section. But would have given my right arm to get out earlier but it’s a minimum in Ireland. But even still a lot of recovery at home so take it easy x

@Shaunieh95- Awwww you’ll be absolutely fine!!!! Don’t worry honestly. If I can do it so can you. I had 2 operations last year, one quite major and I was so so nervous but honestly it was absolutely fine and I recovered really well. So trust me you’ll be fine with a c section 😉💜
@MadameJosephine- Ahh that’s good to know. I don’t know why I have this thing about catheters- make me feel like a real patient which I know I am but just adds to it! X

I know what you mean kate3150 I had some gynae surgery a couple of years ago and threatened to take my own catheter out if they didn’t, I don’t make a very good patient lol

I had an ELCS on Monday due to having twins. They were born at 2.30pm and we were home by 7pm weds so just over 48 hours.
I was so ready to go home, but when I actually got home I wished I just stayed one more night, mainly just for the use of the electronic bed that sits you up. I've found the worst part at home so far is getting in and out of my quite high bed and laying back.

Starlight84 · 23/08/2019 08:27

One night at the hospital and 4 at the birthing centre in my town which is absolutely amazing! I shall be doing the same hopefully this time xx

Grandmi · 23/08/2019 11:49

I stayed in for at least 5 days with my two sons after C section. I personally think that not rushing home makes sense. It is major surgery! The responsibility of caring for newborn and potentially toddlers at home ...can get too much and rest can be hard to find !

Kate3150 · 23/08/2019 12:09

Thank you all so much for your responses! I’m overwhelmed- 😘

Like I previously mentioned I had a big op last year but only had to focus on myself and my recovery. Cannot begin to imagine what it’s like doing that whilst also learning how to look after a baby. I can’t wait though 😬 xx

I was just in overnight with my emergency section. I was champing at the bit to go home! I hate communal wards. But we got readmitted as DD had jaundice and needed to go under lights Sad Catheter was out within a few hours of surgery and I did my first solo pee at 6pm after surgery at 5am (I remember as I was close to the deadline for getting the catheter reinserted so it was a high-pressure pee!)

userabcname · 23/08/2019 12:55

Good luck OP! I'm interested in these responses as I am having a c section in October. I was in a week after DC1 (vaginal birth but went tits up) and was begging to be allowed home as it was so hot/noisy. One or two nights would be ideal!

Quartermaster · 23/08/2019 12:58

28 hours for me (I was very keen to get home though and think they would have kept me in for an extra night if I hadn’t pushed for discharge)

wonkylegs · 23/08/2019 13:00

I stayed 36hours but I could have gone home within 24 if they hadn't got confused by the fact I'd had TB in the past (fully treated) and we aren't in a TB risk area so they had little experience so they had to find a senior consultant (who wasn't on at the time) to sort out whether they needed to do anything
