DD1 is Ella. DD2 due Wednesday, she'll be wanting a name. So, choices are between Bryony and Neve (DH wants Anna but have decided it's too similar to Ella so in the style of Ross and Rachel - VETO!!!).

Bryony or Neve?

TIA.

OOh used to know a lady called Bryony, I think its a gorgeous name, gentle and graceful

niamh / neve is OK, but much prefer bryony

funnypeevesculiar · 04/08/2007 20:45

Bryony. And agree with MrsBadger

rantinghousewife · 04/08/2007 20:47

Niamh, Bryony just sounds too close to Britney to my ears for some reason.

Peachy · 04/08/2007 20:54

Close to britney? noooo, Bryony is a flower! Victorian name

rantinghousewife · 04/08/2007 20:57

Ahem... I know, it's just the sound iyswim. Obviously I spend too much time reading popbitch.

Peachy · 04/08/2007 21:00

Best change to Gardeners World NOW eh?

PrincessGoodLife · 04/08/2007 21:07

Neve
Think it would sounds better to have two sisters called Ella and Neve.

Tinkjon · 05/08/2007 10:06

FWIW, My daughter's name is always being mispronounced and it doesn't bother me that much, so I wouldn't let that put you off. although DD may not like having to correct it of course! And yep, Neve Campbell is def pronounced "nevv".

Oh no - Nev is not pretty. It sounds like it's short for Neville!!

Even more reason to avoid Neve - either Niamh or Bryony.

Ellbell · 05/08/2007 10:11

Bryony (lovely name, was on our shorlist)

But there are 93 zillion Amys, Alices, Olivias and Graces (all nice names, though) whereas Bryony would be the only one. And it's not that hard to spell. (In fact, my objection to Neve is that it's a name invented by people who can't spell Niamh...)

MaloryTowersHasManners - my name is Amy so won't be going for that! I think it'll probably be Bryony but we'll see... Rhiannon has crept onto the radar in the past 24 hours so maybe it WILL be a case of seeing which one suits her best!

Tutter!

Bryony must be a posh southern name, Malory. Don't know any round these parts!

Tutter · 05/08/2007 15:13

sorry

will someone use clara

i love it but will never have a girl

BooWidger · 05/08/2007 15:13

DDs little play buddy is Sam, it still amuses us after 18 months...

The stupid person in me just thinks of Brian when I say Bryony.

Like Neve.

BooWidger · 05/08/2007 15:14

My great nan was Pearl Clara and wanted to use Clara but DH thinks it sounds clumsy. I think it is beautiful.

Clara is good Tutter, but hard to say 'Ella and Clara' (you end up saying 'Eller and Clarerererer'... too many a's).

Bryony, I tell you. Bryony is the way to go.
