Oh and we had considered Piper as a first name for our DD, to be named after my DH's favourite tipple (Piper Heidseick or however it's spelled) but a few people looked at us like we were mad...so went with Emma which I am very happy with

hatrick - that sounds very cultured - we could use that if anyone asks! The only other Mimi I know is Mimi Rogers but wasn't she once married to Tom Cruise? Wouldn't like to be associated with him.

i like ellie-may for a girl and ds' name is riley.
not too sure if any of them are particularly unusual but i dont think that they're very common and i love them both anyway!!!

Meglet · 02/08/2007 21:04

Ferris is ace for a boy. My DP wouldn't let me call our DS that, now I've put it in his babybook as other names we liked I can't use it for any future babies! Think a sibling would be naffed off with a second hand name!

mumto2nuttybells · 02/08/2007 21:09

My dd is called Fleur and my ds is called Fabian. And no we are not French, just liked the names!

youpeskykids · 02/08/2007 23:47

I went to Uni with a Cerys - a name I really liked, but she got fed up of non-Welsh people calling her Cerise (as in the colour).

I think the spelling thing is odd though. DS2 is called Finlay, I spelt it like that because I thought that was the most obvious/original way to spell it. But recently I've seen lots of Finleys (and am now panicking a little!!!)

youpeskykids · 02/08/2007 23:48

Sorry, in last post I meant original not as in unique, but original as in the origins of the name.....

My god I really should go to bed

Magicmayhem · 03/08/2007 09:01

Ieuan love that name

moyasmum · 03/08/2007 10:07

these were from my daughter:
How about Merle,Junipa,Jolly
Melusine,Scout.Boys :Dario

Meridith shortened to Merry (didnt consider it after i met one of my midwives with that name . What a jobsworth!)

groovergirl · 03/08/2007 10:31

For the boys: Peregrine (Perry), Auberon, Montgomery, Dion (as in Dionysus, god of dancing), Victor, Hector.
For the girls: Amaryllis, Romola, Radmilla, Morgana, Morwenna, Alastrina, Alberta, Xanthe (the last two are my friend's daughters' names), Tamar, Jocasta, and (care of two gorgeous girls I met in Argentina) Marisol and Florencia.
And for your amusement, so that you can see what the bogans (Australian version of chavs) have been calling their kids lately, these are real names from the Melbourne births notices: Tuhleesha Jyzz Areol, Pryncess Daitoner (sis to Tuhleesa), Rad Ryko, Maverick, Jaxon, Shakailah-Jayde, Bodelle Elzira, Janayha, Nykiyah Lezley, Chase Zander, M'kenzy, Talon Jordyn ... it's child abuse. It needs legislation.

MrsMcJnr · 03/08/2007 10:37

Pestomonster - there was an Araminta (Polo!) and a Felix in my class at school!

Angie - not long now! these are my unusual ones:

Girls: Juno, Kia, Dominica, Misty, Raine, Una, Astraea, Jana, Luna, marnie, Eden, Tahlia & Azara

Boys: Neo, Saul, Caleb, Ellis, Ashton, Aidan, Rocco & Orion.

midnightexpress · 03/08/2007 11:10

You could try something like this book for inspiration?

kerala · 03/08/2007 11:21

Groovegirl love Alberta had not thought of that. But Talon!!! these people should not be allowed to reproduce

I am a sucker for granny names I must say and my current faves are Iris, Elspeth, Beatrice and Esme.

mslucy · 03/08/2007 11:23

Boy: Dexter, Titus, Rufus, Lucas, Xavier
Girl: Zuleika, Drusilla, Octavia, Leonie

themoon66 · 03/08/2007 11:26

Susan or Janice - they are pretty unusual these days.

diplodocus · 03/08/2007 11:28

I wanted to call DD Cora, but DH wouldn't have it

mixedmama · 03/08/2007 12:04

Atticus for a boy - brilliant. In reference to To kill a Mockingbird and Atticus's character and also the Greek God (I think) that Atticus'name was chosen for.

Magicmayhem · 03/08/2007 15:32

how about Herbie...

miabl2 · 03/08/2007 16:24

DS's name is Irvine which is pretty unusual. Also little boy at his nursery is called Cole and he's very cool.

Peachy · 03/08/2007 17:20

Irvine??? Friend in an old job was OBSESSED by eddie itrvine- not her are you ?

Also have a racing drivers name, but is so old that younger kids dont know it (for ds2)

maxbear · 06/08/2007 19:53

When I was pg with ds my dh kept going on about the name Clementine, I like it but did not want to name my child a fruit name, as Gwineth Paltrow comparisons would have been made. We have Harriet and Edward both fairly unusual, without being difficult for people to remember. I have only come accross one other Harriet and a couple of Edwards.
