Good morning everyone!

Hoping one of you lovely people will be able to help me out! I'm really struggling to know what to take to work in a packed lunch as it seems that everything I would normally take is off the cards, like tinned soups and wraps with cold meats in them. I like to mix it up a bit and would appreciate a few ideas that will last me through until November!

Thanks!

I've lived off tomato soup and spaghetti hoops because I can't stomach anything else. If you won't eat tinned soup then just make your own?

FenellaMaxwell · 27/07/2019 11:23

If you don’t know what you want, why don’t you get a bento box lunchbox, which has all the little sections, and just fill it with bits you can pick at? Olives, cubes of cheese, bits of ham, slices of cucumber, crackers or triangles of pita, some houmous etc

Jacket potatoes would be nice and filling (with beans or salad and a sprinkle of cheese)

Cous cous with veg. You could make enough for two days.

Oak cakes and a banana.

LatteLove · 27/07/2019 11:26

Jesus why don’t they just put pregnant women in hospital and just stick them on a drip for 9 months! Why the hell couldn’t you have tinned soup or a wrap?

If you are worried though you can buy cartons of fresh soup but I suppose it depends on you having somewhere to store it

McHelenz · 27/07/2019 11:26

My midwife did advise against mcflurrys and Mr whippys because they sit in the pipe a bit longer so have a mild bacteria risk.

She also advised against ready meals yet I'm having to live off them too so..

dementedpixie · 27/07/2019 12:00

NHS doesn't advise against soft scoop ice cream. The mcdonalds machines automatically do cleaning cycles so little risk of contamination

McHelenz · 27/07/2019 12:18

@dementedpixie it's just what my midwife told me. I've just tried to have scoop ice cream as opposed to a machine.

However when out in the heat I've not said no to a 99. It's just moderation!

Tweetingmagpie · 27/07/2019 12:19

My dog walker works part time in McDonald’s and they found a whole turd in the McFlurry machine recently.

Sorry you know they've taken guliable out of the dictonary don't you???

How did it get there??? Do you think the milk is piped straight from the cows arse?

Or some mcdonalds worker has mistaken the mcflurry machine for the shitter?

I’m about to make a lentil/ mushroom/ sweet potatoes and spinach stew (with peppers carrots and peas too) cook up a batch and then freeze in Tupperware or store in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Midwife strongly recommended lentils and leafy greens/ vegetables to me! Plus freezing makes it easy and convenient.

If you season a stew like that well it makes a nice veggie cottage pie filling. Just pop a bit of mash (instant if you prefer) on top and some sprinky cheese.

Try not to get so touchy OP.
I don’t read any of these posts as patronising but this is a community of mums who want to help. If you had just said ‘can someone give me pregnancy safe fresh lunch ideas’ would have been fine but actually you’re ‘going in’ on how certain things ‘aren’t safe’ based on random things you’ve read. Other women reading this could feel quite alarmed or worried if they’ve been eating these things so nobody is wrong to jump in and ‘correct/challenge’ your assumptions that something isn’t safe!!

It’s not all about you and how you feel I’m afraid, threads like this can be influential to women reading it who are also struggling with what to eat in early pregnancy.

When I was pregnant with my eldest 14 years ago I am sure Mr Whippy and McFlurry type ice creams were on the banned list

McHelenz · 27/07/2019 13:31

@lattelove I think they are discouraged, well I've been told to avoid so I have. I'm not missing out x

cookiechomper · 27/07/2019 14:54

I was advised ice cream from McDonald's will always be better than the ones from vans as their hygiene standards will be higher and are cleaned regularly.
OP you can carry on eating your usual lunches.
Tinned soups are fine and cold meat is also fine as long as you keep it in the fridge. It's only certain things you need to avoid. Undercooked meats, certain cheese, pate, liver and I personally avoided anything that had been left out for a while, such as buffets. Also remember if reheating anything, make sure it's hot all the way through.

codenameduchess · 27/07/2019 15:45

OP, you asked for meal ideas specifically because ham and soup was 'bad' or whatever. It's been pointed out that's nonsense and you still said you'd rather trust some idiot online. You've had ideas, eat what you usually eat because there is no issue. No one has been passive aggressive.

Re the McFlurrys- McFlurrys/soft serve ice cream used to be avoided, I was told to stay away from that and runny eggs 4 years ago and it was updated just after dc was born that both were fine (I ate both anyway... it was summer and who says no to a McFlurry?)

Nikki512 · 27/07/2019 18:21

OP I totally feel the same as much as people tel you not to worry and eat what u want I’ve been the same once I’ve read one thing true or not I’m so wary of it
I was even off lettuce for a while cause I read one article.
I’m the same with tinned soups even though I lived off them from week 10-14 I bought of tub ones this week in my shop to see if it would help lol
I’m gonna try baked potatoes
Cheese crackers and tomatoes
Bagels
Pancakes
And if I feel up to it I might even make a pot of stew or something handy to heat up in work (Ano it’s summer now but I can eat regardless)

Hope you find some ideas to fill you up
