Mozzarella cheese safe? Worrying!!

Beth2016xxx · 20/07/2019 22:38

So I’ve just came out of a family meal at a Mexican restaurant! I had the vegetarian chilli and on top was sprinkled on some cheese it looked like orange cheddar and then white cheddar as I was eating I realised the lighter coloured cheese was actually mozzarella it wasn’t fresh it was dry and grated so seems like the one you buy at the supermarket that’s in the packet and grated ready to use so I’m assuming it should be pasteurised but now I’m not going to lie I’m panicking I feel so guilty for eating it and I naturally worry so much! Should this be okay!? I attached a photo of the cheese! It was dry and grated not soft moz so assuming it should be ok?,?

It's fine.

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 20/07/2019 22:44

There is absolutely no way that a Mexican restaurant is putting unpasteurised mozzarella on vegetarian chilli. Unpasteurised mozzarella is quite difficult to find in the U.K. and is usually a more expensive, niche product like mozzarella di bufala.

You need to calm down a little or you'll drive yourself mad. You've already posted about cold pizza, lipstick, whipped cream, cheese strings, and out of date butter, as well as lots of other things. It sounds like it's becoming a bit of an obsession and maybe worth speaking to your midwife about.

loveandlaughs · 20/07/2019 23:13

Totally safe!

i do understand your concern though, When I was pregnant with DC1 I ate pizza without cheese for nine months for the same reason. DC 2 and 3 didn't get such neurotic special treatment, the cheese will definitely be pasteurised.

I haven't seen your other threads but if you are getting overly anxious about food as pp suggested then please chat with your midwife so you can enjoy your pregnancy. Congratulations Thanks

Beth2016xxx · 20/07/2019 23:17

PErhaps instead of going through my
Posts and being rude on my thread you should maybe avoid replying when I clearly have spoken to my midwife about worrying if this helps someone’s anxiety why does it effect you if I post? Perhaps you should not be rude? Smile

Keep trying to reply directly but my arse response was directed at “celebelly” not anyone who’s responded nicely! :)

Thank you this made me feel loads better! Xx

Celebelly · 20/07/2019 23:26

It wasn't rude, but if you don't actually want people to respond then just read the NHS advice on what you can and can't eat 🤷‍♀️ it's pretty self explanatory. If you keep posting and getting in a state about the same things then obviously people are going to mention it!

Karwomannghia · 20/07/2019 23:27

It wouldn’t ever have occurred to me to worry about this. And now from pp you obviously are very worried about these things more than you should be. I’m honestly saying this not to criticise you but to reassure.
I know full well how difficult it is when you’re pregnant and worried about harming your baby or something going wrong but do be assured that you really can’t harm your baby by eating mozzarella. The possible thing is getting salmonella. This is very very rare. My friend got food poisoning when pregnant and it was fine.

Ticklemeelmo · 20/07/2019 23:31

The NHS website has quite an extensive section that clarifies which cheeses and other foods are safe to eat and which to avoid. Agree it can be a bit of a minefield but I just check that when I'm in doubt

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/07/2019 23:32

It's not rude. It's concern about your anxiety, which appears to be more of an issue to you than the food you're eating. And worth talking to HCPs about. Is the anxiety new or is it preexisting?

FWIW unless you're mainlining vodka, and eating raw, smelly shellfish, most things are just guidelines which won't affect most of us.

Beth2016xxx · 20/07/2019 23:33

Nah it was rude! I only ask online not to anyone in person bar my midwife and that’s pretty much the whole point of this website it’s for reassurance I panic with food and obviously don’t want to harm my baby which is very common I got reassured by my post so wouldnpost it again 100 times if it makes me feel better, if I didn’t have anything helpful to say on someone’s post I wouldn’t bother posting at all

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/07/2019 23:54

The thing about anxiety is that the reassurance works in the short term but not in the long term. You feel relieved. Next time the anxiety ramps up and you need to seek reassurance to be OK. And you'd already eaten it so you can't do anything about it.

rosesandtea · 21/07/2019 00:10

Is one of the cans of coke in the photo yours? Caffeine definitely isn't advised

sweetsaltypopcorn · 21/07/2019 00:17

Where was the rudeness? I'm baffled.

alwaysalso · 21/07/2019 00:24

It wasn't rude

Teachermaths · 21/07/2019 00:27

It wasn't rude.

Your anxiety is beyond the range of normal if you are asking this many questions. Read the NHS website and refer back to it.

kmammamalto · 21/07/2019 00:48

It's wasn't rude
Your reply on the other hand...
Poor @celebelly

catnaps1995 · 21/07/2019 00:56

Haha dw I have eaten so many different cheeses that I really shouldn’t of 🙈
Mozzarella is fine though. They have these rules and regulations in place just as a precaution but the likelihood of anything actually happening is very low. You’ll be fine

catnaps1995 · 21/07/2019 00:58

Also rosesandtea you are allowed caffeine during pregnancy....as long as it’s under 200mg per day

Tini17 · 21/07/2019 03:58

It wasn’t rude. Unlike your reply. Or the separate thread you set up to rant about it...

soberken · 21/07/2019 04:03

@Celebelly was NOT rude. You are rude asking for advise and then not liking what you hear and dismissing concerns over your high anxiety.

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 21/07/2019 06:12

@rosesandtea There’s 34mg of caffeine in a can of Coke Zero. As long as she had no other sources of caffeine, OP could have five cans a day and still come in under the recommended daily limit of 200mg.

OP, @Celebelly’s post was kindly meant and not rude. It sounds like your anxiety is above the level of normal pregnancy worries and I think it would be wise to seek some help before your baby is born and you enter a whole new world of things to fret about.

FenellaMaxwell · 21/07/2019 06:15

Nobody has been rude to you and if you are posting about food that often then you need to discuss it with your midwife.
