Eating subway whilst pregnant

Dumb question but my friend suggested that you shouldnt eat subway whilst pregnant. I usually (pre-preg) demolish a spicy italian (salami and pepperoni) hot with cheese.
Is there a supposed list of things I cant eat from subway?

Yes cured meat should be avoided but ham, turkey, meatballs etc all fine

NHS advice here

Rubberyduck · 14/07/2019 20:03

Hmm OK. The NHS link says pepperoni on a cooked pizza is OK so surely its fine having a toasted subway?

I would be more concerned about listeria in the salad.

00100001 · 14/07/2019 20:04

If it had been previously frozen (likely) then it will be safe.

00100001 · 14/07/2019 20:06

But you will have to ask

soloula · 14/07/2019 20:07

Toasted is not heated the same temperature as cooked in an oven so it wouldn't kill off any nasties that may be in the meat. I'd stick with the safer fillings like chicken, ham etc.

Hellosunshine30 · 14/07/2019 20:07

I would avoid anything like that unless it's properly cooked like on a pizza.

I can't wait to demolish sushi etc when my baby is here. Lol

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 20:09

Ask if its been frozen beforehand as that makes it ok

QueenBeex · 14/07/2019 20:09

I'm pregnant and I eat subway, usually a chicken one.

HeadintheiClouds · 14/07/2019 20:11

I really wouldn’t. Why take the risk with deli meats and possibly imperfectly washed salad for the sake of a Subway sandwich, of all things?

Littlebird88 · 14/07/2019 20:12

i did every thursday throughout all.good

Lllot5 · 14/07/2019 20:13

Well I’ve heard it all now. This would never have occurred to me. Things you learn on mumsnet.

NEtoN10 · 14/07/2019 20:17

I would have eaten it without thinking... I ate loads of deli style meats in Barcelona at 10 weeks... I didn't realise it wasn't advised! I think subway will freeze their meat... you can probably find out on their website or just go for chicken?

PowerslidePanda · 14/07/2019 20:30

Bear in mind, it's not just about what YOU order - Subway don't appear to change knives between customers, so if somebody previously had a sub that wasn't pregnancy safe, it could still put you at risk. If you do have a Subway, ask them to use a fresh knife.

Rubberyduck · 14/07/2019 20:52

OK thanks. I guess that rules out things like pizza hut buffet etc. Makes eating out at lunch (on the go) tricky to plan

Pizza has been cooked though rather than being heated for a very short period of time

00100001 · 14/07/2019 21:06

"I can't wait to demolish sushi etc when my baby is here."

You can eat sushi whilst pregnant, as long as the fish has been previously frozen.
Yo Sushi freezes all their fish. And normally tuna for sushi is frozen, I think it's salmon that isn't. Just ask at a sushi counter.
And if it is supermarket prepacked sushi, it's safe

00100001 · 14/07/2019 21:08

Read the NHS link I posted. It tells you everything you need to know.

Cooked through is fine, previously frozen is fine.

Angelinthenightx · 14/07/2019 21:18

So many things we have to watch its crazy. Since u have had already & not been ill your baby is fine,i just wouldnt have anymore & not subway or even pre packed sanwiches.
Im scared to eat anything as i do worry as so many things come up when u google it x

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 21:19

Pre packed sandwiches are fine too. Read the nhs links

Grumpos · 14/07/2019 21:20

So no one is eating salad outside of their house during pregnancy? Confused
In terms of listeria etc - Any time you eat in a restaurant, café, pub etc you are taking a tiny risk because you’re putting your trust in their hygiene. Unless you want to stay indoors for 9 months then you have to take this tiny risk.
In terms of the recommended food, just stick to the cooked meats.

scratchbass · 14/07/2019 21:23

If you look at the NHS website, there's really not much you can't eat. People go way over the top in restricting themselves when there is no scientific basis for it.

Anerak · 14/07/2019 21:25

With my 2nd pregnancy I had immense swelling of my upper palate after eating a Subway so haven't had one since. I also googled the ingredients in them and wouldn't now recommend anyone eats it, pregnant or not

HeadintheiClouds · 14/07/2019 21:27

There’s a whole long road between eating salads of dubious origin and staying indoors for nine months! The drama! Grin
