Hello,

Me and my partner are planning a gender reveal party for August.

Does anyone know of any good places/websites that we can get good decorations and supplies from in the UK??

OP posts:

I had a sex reveal party at the hospital. I pushed the baby out, then looked between their legs.... Ta-da! News spread by text message (old).** 😂😂

GingerRogers84 · 08/07/2019 21:33

I don't think OP asked anyone's opinion on the type of party she's having!!! There really is no need to be so mean for the sake of it!

Anyway @Winnyp6174 you could try pink or blue confetti in balloons, hiding the colour in the sponge of a cake! Or get some helium balloons in the correct colour and release them from a massive fancy box?

GingerRogers84 · 08/07/2019 21:35

Ps I used eBay for everything decoration wise for my son's christening. If you have enough time then Wish always has good options too! High street wise The Range has never let me down.

Always good to enforce gender stereotypes on an unborn child.

The whole concept is bizarre to me. Why would anyone other than the parents give a toss what sex (not gender) a baby is. There isn't much tackier or more self indulgent.

Prettylittlebumblebee · 08/07/2019 21:49

Ignore all the idiots who haven't answered your question but have just voiced their idiotic opinion on your special day.

Aldi do have lots in at the moment. Etsy is fantastic. Use Pinterest for ideas and sometimes you can search things on Instagram.

I didn't have a party but we went to our family with cupcakes and inside the cupcakes I had the colour blue... Oooh... Stereotyping. I better watch myself on here Grin it was lovely and everyone was so surprised. Enjoy yor party

Sorry @Winnyp6174 mumsnet doesnt agree with baby showers or gender reveal parties. You're better off going on Google. I had a similar reaction when asking about having a baby shower close to my due date, everyone just piled on saying they were a waste of time/grabby/no one cares and not actually answering my question. Good luck!

This!

crustycrab · 08/07/2019 22:42

Whatever it is there are two. Male and female.

Babies can't identify.

Thiswayorthatway · 08/07/2019 22:50

Oh please, next it will be a granny baby shower 🙄

Thiswayorthatway · 08/07/2019 22:51

That's worse than a grabby baby shower 🤣😂🤣

kkl1 · 08/07/2019 23:01

Duster12 · 08/07/2019 23:12

Seems a bit unnessessary. Self important fad from America.

Mrsmummy90 · 08/07/2019 23:15

Poundland and Aldi have lots of gender reveal stuff xx

StealthPolarBearsBiggestGroupi · 08/07/2019 23:19

gender
/ˈdʒɛndə/
noun
1.
either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female.

Interesting correlation between gender reveal nonsense and grammar.

crustycrab · 08/07/2019 23:22

Gender. Either of the two sexes. Full stop

toomanypillows · 08/07/2019 23:25

Find the whole concept a bit odd, but to each their own.
One thing I do find really frustrates me about them, is that it's always bloody blue or pink. Forcing that awful conditioning before baby is even born.
If you must have one, could you do silver and black. Or green and orange. Or purple and yellow.
And just make it clear what each one represents before popping the balloons or whatever you're doing.
Go on, OP - buck the trend

Pomgirl · 08/07/2019 23:29

Some people are just being horrible. She hasn’t asked your opinions on gender reveals. It’s abit of fun!!!! Enjoy your party OP! Smile

crustycrab · 08/07/2019 23:31

@toomanypillows green and orange "but make it clear what that represents" Hmm. No different to blue and pink then?

Heratnumber7 · 08/07/2019 23:46

Will the baby have decided on its gender before it's even been born?

You'll know its sex so why not have a sex reveal party instead?

toomanypillows · 09/07/2019 06:53

@crustycrab - no totally different to blue and pink. Because I'm suggesting a one off representation for the purposes of a weird spectacle, rather than a constant reinforcement that a particular colour ought to be aligned with a particular sex
The difference is that instead of constantly using the same colours (blue and pink) each time someone does it, you mix it up and choose something different. So that ALL colours represent ALL things

charliep92 · 09/07/2019 07:21

Ginger Ray brand is my favourite party go to shop, have a look on there! X

DonkeyHohtay · 09/07/2019 07:33

Balloons, plates, wasteful single use plastic tat. Sounds amazing hun. Hmm

Abi58 · 09/07/2019 07:53

@Winnyp6174 wow I've only ever had support on here so far so a bit shocked at some of these comments. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it doesn't warrant being nasty when you're asking for advise.
As for the whole stereotype well it wouldn't be much of a reveal if yellow or green popped out would it.
Personally I think it's a great excuse to have a happy day celebrating your pregnancy and get your family and close friend together regardless of opinion on the actual reveal.

It would depend on what you want you could do a cake then just get balloons or banners and party food? Google eBay ad amazing should have plenty ☺️

womaninthedark · 09/07/2019 07:56

I'm autistic. Is that comment helpful, or just an incredible put-down?
Made me laugh, anyway. Grin
