When is it acceptable to buy a pregnancy pillow?

Without looking like I'm milking the whole pregnancy and being uncomfortable thing.

I would have bought a pregnancy pillow when I'm not even pregnant, I sleep with one pillow long ways down my body that I kind of.. hug? I wrap myself around s pillow at night anyway.

But I'm only 11/12 weeks pregnant, lying on my belly (and 34G boobs) is quite uncomfortable but it's how I've always fallen asleep, I cant sleep on my back and when I'm on my back or side I have really achy, restless legs. Someone recommended putting a pillow under my legs to help with the aching.. so I wondered if I can get away with buying a big comfy pregnancy pillow now? Even though I dont exactly have a bump, just a lot of bloat.

Or any other recommendations to get a comfortable night sleep in this heat?

Of course you can buy one now. I bought one in the first trimester too

elf1985 · 06/07/2019 13:18

6months before you get pregnant. Comfy is comfy.

Pipandmum · 06/07/2019 13:19

Oh I want one! And I’m 57...

catlady3 · 06/07/2019 13:20

Who cares what other people think, comfortable sleep is priceless. I got one, not looking back.

DaisyMay25 · 06/07/2019 13:23

I've been wondering the exact same thing! I'm 14+3 but my back is so bad! I don't think I can hold out much longer

PoppingOneOutIn2020 · 06/07/2019 13:27

I'm more worried about DP getting annoyed with a giant pillow into the bed Grin hes very... clingy, in bed. Something i think is his worst trait. I hate being hot, or even warm. So in this heat, and his trying to scootch closer every might makes me want to build a 10 foot wall in the middle of the bed, he got me into this predicament so he cant complain, right? Grin

I best go look at some reviews for the best and comfiest pillow.. any suggestions on brand or shape ect? Halo

Do it! I didn't get on with mine but sounds like you would benefit. Rationalise it that you are getting maximum use for the cost. As the proud owner of a 3 month old I would definitely advise doing anything you can to optimise sleep before they arrive! 😣

I’ve just replaced mine. I’m not pregnant & don’t intend to be ever again!

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 06/07/2019 13:34

My friend has no children and no plans on ever having a baby and she has just bought one. I personally finding mine too hot but putting a normal pillow between my calves of helpful.

MidsomerBurgers · 06/07/2019 13:34

I think in the latter stages of my pregnancy I had about 10 pillows. I'm not exaggerating either.

If you want one, just get one.

Starlive23 · 06/07/2019 13:43

Get one as soon as possible, mine was invaluable and that bump will creep up on you in the next few weeks!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 06/07/2019 13:44

I can really recommend a V shaped pillow too.

Got it when I was pregnant and it was an absolute godsend when feeding. I still have one 15 years later!

coffeeaddiction · 06/07/2019 13:49

I still use mine and I have a 16 month old 🤷🏼‍♀️ makes a comfier cuddle
Partner than my husband 😂

But seriously get one whenever you want

qj17 · 06/07/2019 15:39

Get a normal V pillow, don't waste your money on a dream genie it's the biggest pile of shit going

fluffyjumper · 06/07/2019 16:54

My husband sleeps with one as they are so comfy.

scratchbass · 06/07/2019 17:08

It's never too soon for one, I got mine in the first trimester, it's great! I got the dreamgenii in a Mothercare sale.

I prefer to sleep on my front so I wanted to get used to sleeping on my side. I do change sides during the night but i have it set up so that it's comfier if I sleep on my left.

Xyzzzzz · 06/07/2019 17:12

A pregnancy pillow was the first thing I bought when I found out. I personally stopped sleeping on my back so this helped me. I got a v shaped one too. I have pgp so it’s really helpful

Rarfy · 06/07/2019 17:14

10wks. It isn't necessarily the bump that makes you ache your ligaments begin to soften. I suffered terribly with my legs at night.

jpaws · 07/07/2019 07:31

I think I’m going to have to get one too. The last 3 nights have been horrendous with back pain, just can’t get comfy for long at all. Trying to have a look for one but there’s a lot to choose from.

Sandybval · 07/07/2019 07:40

Now! I loved mine, it was a £20 one from Asda and the best thing I think I have ever bought! I have kept it as it's so comfy.

FlowerTink · 07/07/2019 07:40

I'm pregnant with DC2 and got mine back out at about 7 weeks, it's made so much difference to my sleep!

coral13 · 07/07/2019 08:19

I got mine fairly early. I always slept on my back so needed to get out of the habit before I got to the pregnancy stage where back sleeping is not recommended.

I actually gave mine up a month ago (I'm now full term) as it taught me to sleep on my side and didn't need it anymore (I've been lucky as not had pains sleeping etc) and it was making me too hot in this weather.

Heyha · 07/07/2019 08:27

I hated my dreamgenie but adored my little £10 wedge from Mothercare that I stuck under my bump to help with the weight of it.

Get a pillow whenever you like, OP 🙂

QueenOfThorns · 07/07/2019 08:32

I don’t remember when I got mine, but I had the Summer Infant one and it was brilliant. It’s a bit pricey, but you can turn it into a little nest for the baby once he/she arrives.

The only issue with it was that trying to turn over in bed once wrapped up in it was like wrestling a boa constrictor, but it sounds as though you’re used to sleeping a bit like that anyway!

beforeIhit30 · 07/07/2019 09:00

I got a regular V pillow too, in first trimester. They’re very handy and DH keeps trying to nab it Grin so we probably need another! I’ve used extra pillows/the V pillow from first trimester in all three pregnancies, I needed the extra comfort which I don’t normally need when not pregnant.
