Baby Bottles

Hi all,

Just wondering what baby bottles everyone is using/going to use for their bubbas?

I was all set to order the Tommee Tippee bottle starter kit which seemed a really reasonably priced kit for what you get but upon ready the reviews I was put off and quite a few complaints about the electric steriliser breaking.

I was looking at others and Avent do a similar kit with microwave steriliser but not as good value for money for what you get. I have heard good things about Mam bottles so wondering to just buy everything separate?

Just curious as to others thoughts and ideas?

K x

Mam bottles are brilliant. I originally had TT ones as to be honest I think that's just the go to brand. Switched to mam and think they are great, the self sterilizing is brilliant for if you are visiting somewhere too

Elliesmommy · 05/07/2019 08:30

Used mam for my first 2. changed to nuk for number 3 arriving soon. No real reason only decided to change it up.

JamesBondFire · 05/07/2019 08:38

MAM bottles here too. They worked brilliantly for us and the self sterilising factor is useful. I just used an advent microwave steriliser for its simplicity - can't comment on more fancy sterilisers!

ohdearymemumof3 · 05/07/2019 08:55

Iv had 2 tommee tippee sterilisers and they both broke within months!

I used dr brown bottles with my daughter because she had bad colic and reflux.

I used nuby bottles for my son and had no problems as he didnt have colic etc.

slaps1983 · 05/07/2019 09:04

I used tommee tippee and never had a problem. DS has had them from birth and used them up to coming off the bottle. They do different sized teats depending on what your DC needs.

slaps1983 · 05/07/2019 09:05

Pressed post too soon 😂
I only had one tommee tippee steriliser and never had a problem with it. Used every day for about 14 months

TokenGinger · 05/07/2019 09:08

I've got TT and they're great, even the steriliser. However, I wish I'd envisaged colic/struggles with wind and gone for the bottles with the tubes in to relieve that. Everybody has since recommended Mam so next time we need to buy bottles, we'll switch to those.

IVEgottheDECAF · 05/07/2019 09:14

I found the mam bottles leaked a lot

Giving TT a try this time as near me they are easiest to get hold of , get new teats etc.

Kyriesmum1 · 05/07/2019 09:25

I've used tommee yippee for all my foster babies with no issues and steriliser still going strong. If you buy from John Lewis you should get a 2 year warranty x

anitagreen · 05/07/2019 09:35

The only thing I've found with TT Is that the bottles go faded really fast and the numbers rub off that annoys me so much but I'll still buy them lol

KWordy · 05/07/2019 09:36

Thank you all for your replies. I'm tempted by the mam I must say. I used avent for my last two (although was both some years ago now) and so much more available to choose from nowadays. I'll research a little more then finally decide soon. Thank again Smile

Mam have the best teats they are flat so babies feed better,i love the avent bottles tho, the tommee tippee the teats are so bulky i dont know how babies manage these so i wouldnt use these. I breast & bottle feeding this time so be using the avent bottles but the mam teats as they did fit last time i had a baby if not then mam is my winner x

greyby25 · 05/07/2019 12:37

I originally got TT for my daughter but she got awful trapped wind with them so I ended up getting the MAM anti colic bottles, I loved the self sterilising aspect however I did find they leaked or made a weird squeaky noise when my daughter drank from them sometimes which wasn't great if she was going down for a nap. I wouldn't get TT again unless they were anticolic. I'm getting NUK anti colic bottles this time for my twins and I have the same TT steriliser, never had an issue with it and it still works x

MamaFlintstone · 05/07/2019 12:39

I used NUK because that’s what we were given in the hospital when we first had to start supplementing. Later moved to MAM, which were easier to get hold of in supermarkets etc. No problems with either kind.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 05/07/2019 16:30

I had TT with my 1st but had so many problems with the teats going in on themselves, so DD ended up with terrible wind.
Moved on to avent and had no problems so will be using again this time.

DownWentTheFlag · 05/07/2019 16:35

I’m using NUK on the advice of our neonatal unit. They use NUK and specifically advised against TT, particularly for a newborn.
I got four NUK bottles from Amazon, and a Tommee Tippee steriliser. I’m doing cold water&sterilising tablets which is actually much easier than microwaving. No burnt fingertips!

KWordy · 05/07/2019 17:05

Thank you all. I went for the Mam in the end. Ordered a set from amazon so will give them a go once baby is here and see how we get on with them. Nuk also sound good.

If you have the self sterilizing ones does that mean you can go without a sterilizer completely? Or would you still get one for other things? Do you sterilize soothers? Sorry first time mum here too!

KWordy · 06/07/2019 08:05

I think a steriliser would still be recommended but the self sterilising bottles are handy for travel or if you are out for a long day and need another clean bottle if an extra feed was required. Therefore could just wash and sterilise quickly in a microwave if there is one around.

KWordy · 06/07/2019 08:07

Oh sorry and yes you do sterilise soothers too Smile

Thank you @KWordy!

Scubalubs87 · 06/07/2019 08:57

We started with TT and moved to Mam after about 4 weeks in. Mam bottles win hands down. They do make a squeaky noise but that is due to the air being sucked in from the bottom of the bottle which prevents the babies taking down loads of air when they swallow.

Spam88 · 06/07/2019 09:20

If people are finding Mam bottles are leaking, make sure the teat is pulled through all the way.

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 09:45

With me i found the mam bottles leaked from everywhere if i didnt double check it was all together right. Also constantly assembling 5/6 parts of a bottle is a bit annoying.

HereForAdvice2019 · 06/07/2019 10:05

Mam here too.. Only had one leak and that was me being half asleep. Not assembling it. Properly and giving it a good old shake.. Yes you can imagine it was everywhere at 3am,
R.E soothers. Mam here too
The box. U buy them in you can sterilise them in. Or I used to also sometimes put them inside the bottle tube on top. Of the teat and was fine.
