Out of interest is anyone planning to go into labour with a shaven haven & silky legs or are you going with bushy au natural?

To all those getting brazilians...I've been wondering if I should keep up with my waxing appointments, but I thought that many salons won't do brazilians on pregnant women. Am I wrong?

amexgirl · 28/07/2007 01:53

Does hair removing cream work on your bikini line? Sounds like a good waxing alternative to me... Recommend me a brand? (think I'll go for neat rather than bald in case they think I'm a porn star...)

Naetha · 28/07/2007 23:32

I wish I could get mistaken for a porn star

PurpleLostPrincess · 28/07/2007 23:48

morningglory, I wouldn't know what salons do or don't do but I've heard that the skin is much more sensitive in pg so perhaps they're a bit reluctant to do it?

amexgirl - I used Veet/Immac last time. One tip though - keep your legs open! Last time I used it, I thought I'd kept them open for the whole time (sitting on the side of the bath with a timer lol!) but I ended up losing more hair than intended!!! That was before I was pg so I'm going to be super careful this time...

I've bought some Veet/Immac and I'll be using it loads towards the end in preparation. I wouldn't mind but I couldn't have cared less with DS and DD1 but for some reason I'm concerned about presentation this time!?

DH is not prepared to help me in this area at all but tbh I'd prefer to go this challenge alone!!!

Muddytwoshoes · 28/07/2007 23:55

I had DS gloriously au natural - dp said it looked like his was wearing a wig on his way out............

luckymummy74 · 29/07/2007 13:50

Just thought I would put my bit in....

My dd arrived a week early, on the very day I was booked for a bikini and leg wax!!! It was probably the longest (in time!) I had ever left it, so it was quite amazonian down there. I was mortified, but obviously very quickly didn't give a sh!t!!!

For me it was more about feeling good about myself having just given birth. I think you feel minging enough with a jelly belly and massive orbs for bosoms, and leaking out of every orifice without having to feel hairy too!

I do hope I haven't frightened anyone about to give birth

HairyToe · 29/07/2007 20:38

Towards the end of my first pregnancy I did spend time tidying up everywhere. I have to say though during childborth and the immediate afterbirth the hirsuteness of my lower regions was the very last thing on my mind.

Didn't bother at all with my second.

lorrainewhite1973 · 30/07/2007 12:22

Hi
i'm new to mumsnet but i'm glad to see that other mums do indeed worry about the hair situation. I was completely bald for my first baby and my DH is now regularly shaving me to get ready for the impending birth. As for the legs...i can't be bothered...they won't be looking at those

Rosie2404 · 30/07/2007 13:40

This thread has made me wet myself laughing. With number 1 I made my hubby shave my legs when my waters broke or I wouldnt go to hospital (seemed logical at the time ) but he wouldnt go near anywhere else so that had to be left au natural. Then with number 2 i had c-section and was dry shaved which was incredibly painful especially as I was already in labour. The midwife also commented when passing the razor to her colleague "its very hairy" !!!!! So this time I am thinking about a brazilian if I can summon up the courage

Skyler · 30/07/2007 13:55

Gosh I was au natrel both times. I would have been more embarrassed to have had no hair down there, but then it is not a look I go for anyway.
Once I couldn't see it I didn't care .
I suppose I did keep shaving my legs but I do that most days anyway.

tallulah2 · 30/07/2007 13:57

Had Brazilian 2 days before due date - not painful and best 35 quid ever spent. Imagine the regrowth from shaving if you have to have stitches (which a friend said is like having a barbed wire g string anyway) - makes the wound harder to heal, itchy and you'll feel a lot less clean. Let the salon know when you book and have hot wax NOT strip wax - it's not embarassing and not even really painful - and that's even with vulval varicosities. Honestly - compared to childbirth, it's like having a cup of tea....

TheMuppetMuggle · 30/07/2007 13:59

I have a brazilian wax anyway, and shaved my legs when i went into labour, got it the bath so thought would tidy myself up a bit!!

RGPargy · 30/07/2007 14:16

£35 for a Brazillian?????!! Did you actually go to Brazil for that??

I've just had my monthly Brazilian done for a megre £20. My waxing lady is brilliant at it too.

Rosie2404 · 30/07/2007 14:39

Ok Ive done it booked myself in for brazilian about 3 weeks before due date. Then even if baby is on time or late it wont be too bad down there Mine is going to cost £22. Ive never had one done before so am a bit nervous!!

RGPargy · 30/07/2007 14:42

Well done Rosie. Dont worry you'll be fine! A good waxer will ask you to take your nicks off completely. I had one girl once who tried to do it around my nicks and it was bloody awful! All wonky and everything!

But remember, they've seen a thousand fanjos so they've seen it all before. Dont worry!

bananabump · 30/07/2007 14:56

A brazilian is where they take eerything off, am I right? As in legs-behind-your-head everything?

Christ you must have to have a strong stomach for that job, they must see some sights!

Personally, I wouldn't start with waxing down there cos dp would get too used to it! Funny actually because it reminds me of the first time we got up to naughtiness with him. It was very unexpected and I'd been single for about a year beforehand so hadn't exactly been tending the lawn as it were, and I can remember blurting out mid-grope "I wasn't expecting guests!" lol

Of course now it's a big joke, he always teases me that I had a 'fro down there and he should have brought a machete with him etc etc ad nauseum.... lol

lisad123 · 30/07/2007 15:03

My friend is waxer and did offer to do mine if i needed. I had Emergency C section last time, so think they must have shaved me, although dont remember it

I try and keep my legs and armpits as short as possible at the mo but more for the fact i like to wear dresses in this heat. My fanjo area will have to make do with a quick trim but not gonna be able to do much with the SPD (not STD ) hehehe

I really dont care what they think, least of my worried when in labour hehe

Sarahjct · 30/07/2007 15:23

I'm only 16+4 with first so can't comment from experience but I had to say PMSL @ this thread!

I suspect for me it'll be the thru'penny-all-off a few weeks ahead of time allowing for moderate regrowth. DH has volunteered his services but his face doesn't look that good after a shave so I'm not too wild about letting him loose in the undergrowth!

RGPargy · 30/07/2007 15:56

Bananabump - yes, a brazilian is where they shape the front and sides, go as close to the bottom crack from the front as they can and then get you to turn over and stick your bum in the air so that they can wax around your bum bits. Not very dignified but it's worth it!

I asked my waxing lady today if she gets sick of seeing fanjos and she said she actually prefers doing that to leg waxing as it's so boring!!

Cazzybaby · 30/07/2007 16:01

This is the funniest thread ever!!

I would strongly recommend hair removal cream, this is what I am intending to use,go with a sensitive skin one and be careful not to get it on your actual bits cos it burrrrrrns!!!!

tokentotty · 30/07/2007 16:04

Just beware if you usually have a brazillian and then think 'feck it' and have it all taken off one day, only for that little strip down the middle not to grow back..... Inverse mohican now !!!

Lizzzombie · 30/07/2007 16:06

I had about 20 people have a look at me when I was in active labour: DP, midwives, registrars etc...I am very pleased that I was neat and tidy. But even if you ygo au naturel I am sure they will have seen hairer than you think you actually are!

Lizzzombie · 30/07/2007 16:08

BTW - I couldnt touch hair removal cream during my pregnancy. Nearly gave myself 3rd degree burns using it down there. Area was much more sensitive than usual. Same with waxing, I screamed my head off in the salon getting my usual wax! Very embarrassing!

RGPargy · 30/07/2007 16:21

LMAO @ tokentotty!!!

tokentotty · 30/07/2007 16:29

honestly RG, I'm not kidding....
